This marks the swan song for Bioshock as we know it, folks. Ken Levine is folding up Irrational after this and handing Bioshock over to 2K Marin (who was behind the oft-underrated Bioshock 2). Having said that, I'm more excited than ever to see what this DLC is all about.
The idea of having closure in a satisfying way after the original Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite sounds really nice. Really looking forward to this DLC for the art and gameplay as well.
Did not expect Daisy to come back, although there are posters in episode one written "Atlas- voice of the people"... With Ryan's return, Comstock may too (there will be like Daisy vs Comsock while Atlas vs Ryan)~ Also Sichong's audio logs suggest that he is sort of a opportunist/ inventor just like Fink. The DLC so far connects the dots perfectly, I hope the ending will explain the whole thing~ Can't wait!!
*****(SPOILERs) I also noticed that when Elizabeth is repeating those words from episode one, she is also leaning on a baptismal font, the similar if not the same one, in which Booker drowned Comstock in the main story. I guess it could be her moment of reckoning, just like Booker does his flashbacks at the end. Come quick, Mar 25!!

For my money, he's the one and only guy who finally pulled off the concept of "interactive movie" better than anybody else ever did when the concept came to the fore in the 1990s. You don't like it, okay...but comparing Ken Levine to Cage is about as insulting as comparing Rod Serling to Alfred Hitchcock. Both did wonderful things in their chosen mediums but the mediums were very different.
I was hoping for more backstory into Songbird, the Boys of Silence, heck even the Handymen. Hope this isn't going to be like Bioshock 1 where you're stuck in the tubes and have to listen to nothing but ocean jokes all the way through.

Even Irrational doesn't know the future of the BioShock franchise at this point. They're like Brad Bird. Take-Two Interactice, Irrational's overlord, is a quality-over-quantity sort of publisher, so there probably isn't a lot of pressure on Irrational to push out another BioShock anytime soon. Infinite has solid gunplay but limited engagement with the environment and bland enemies. A fan-made kitbash could remedy a good bit of that.

I've seen that same tired excuse over and over again. "They don't want BioShock to become the next Call of Duty franchise so....they're saving it..." I say bullshit! They don't HAVE to release a new game every year! BioShock fans are some of the most patient people ever! (we waited from 2007-2010 and 2010-2013 for those awesome sequels!) We value quality over quantity and understand that it takes time to make a proper BioShock game. Ken Levine is either too afraid of success or his ego is so big that he has to pull this hipster move and downsize so he can make pet project indie games....stupid really. YOU HAD A GOOD THING GOING KEN. They'd finally gotten BioShock on the level that it always deserved to be on! The gameplay didn't feel as clunky and broken as it did with the first two games and the story was moving past simple character identity plot twists into space time tampering! Great stuff! Infinite literally opened up countless opportunities for them to explore...but instead, they cut us short just as it was getting good....pretty disappointing. im so excited seeing all these prolific characters coming back shows this is the climax for the bioshock series and hearing from the amazing voice talents is incredible too'ive always admired andrew ryan as my favorite characters and to hear Armin Shimerman input is fantastic my only sadness is that i feel there never be such a creative impact on the video game world again unless irationals' remaining personnel can still create art at take 2 studios
They really went with it and swapped Elizabeth and Booker's roles... Booker now is a demigod for some reason and Elizabeth goes around shooting people with crossbows and guns. How interesting.
{Spoiler} Not gonna lie, I cried when Elizabeth died at the end, plus the music fits well and immerses you in the moment. And the ending reminded me of a French sop opera. Pure Brilliance!

Once that I finally understood Infinite after playing, Burial at sea comes out...I've seen the first part of this DLC and at the end I was like....Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? I need to see episode two NOW.
Andrew Ryan - My favorite antagonist of all time. I will be looking forward to his performance. As much as I want to like Ep 1, it was disappointing especially the story. I hope Ep 2 will kick me back into the experience and enjoyment of Bioshock.
My heart is literally broken when i heard irrational is shutting down, i cant believe this. My hope for another bioshock is dead, even if one is released it wont be the same if it is not by irrational. Thank you for creating the masterpiece that is the bioshock series.
that was really good, how it wove a lot of stuff together, but I felt like "wrapping everything up" negates ending to infinite. It was a really good way to strongly connect the events of Colombia to Rapture, but bordered on contrived. Bioshock is about free will and the ability on how free will you have to make choices, and Infinite hammered that in the head with constants and variables, every ending is an alternate ending and no more real than the others. There is always a lighthouse. There is always a man. The dlc gave Elizabeth a lot of power, but took it away, and you felt helpless watching your favorite character march towards death. And the only thing keeping me alive from the infinite ending, was the thought of "if Combstock is really dead, Booker Dewitt can still exist from that point on, and Anna wouldn't have been taken in the first place, so Booker would be alive, and Anna wouldn't be trapped and tortured, so in some universe, they are together with a happy ending they deserve! RIGHT?!?" and I don't know if this mean that because Elizabeth got rid of her Lutece-like status for a mortal one to save the little sisters, what that means for other universe with Anna? I'm just sad all around, and maybe that carried into the game because it's (as far as I know) the last bioshock game ever, so they wanted to wrap up the story and have some kind of conclusion. I still love the heck out of these games, and how they can move me in such a way, and Booker Dewitt and Elizabeth are some of my favorite videogame characters of all time.
There are many game dev geniuses who bring so much pleasure to so many people through their art and imagination in the fantastically exciting medium of video games I would NOT consider Ken Levine one of those though. I would consider Ken Levine a gaming God who is peerless in the industry imho. When I play Irrational games I feel like that kid that's playing video games for the first time and that's the studios genius. It has one foot firmly in the roots of video games and the other pushing the envelope to what is possible in this still young and exciting form of telling stories.
I'm surprised to hear it. I thought she was short-lived but well-drawn. In the end, Infinite was about the core relationship between two people more than anything else, and if you didn't see it that way, a lot of characters and ideas (including Fitzroy) got relatively short shrift.
lawoftheeast Think that's primarily the reason a lot of people didn't care for her. Do to time/story constraints it's never really well explained how she goes from freedom fighter to fanatic and child murderer. It's hinted that it had something to do with the alternate Booker who died fighting for her cause and Elizabeth's manipulations of the tears/universes, but it doesn't ever go the distance to clarify and provide a bit more depth. She's suddenly just a bad guy on par with Comstock. However I did really enjoy the concept of her character and Kimberly Brook's performance, so it would be nice to see her expanded upon a bit.
+RogueScholarBlue I loved BioShock Infinite, but there was way more I wanted out of it than a more fully realized Fitzroy. The gaps in the story from the Tear-jumping gave plenty of room for our imaginations to fill, so she never touched my personal list of the game's shortcomings. Those breeze-overs were just incidental to the events of the main story. I found her motivation entirely relatable as well. Given the harsh lives of minorities in Columbia, it's not a far stretch at all for them to dehumanize their oppressors to the point of wishing harm to their persons, or even their young blood. Just look at the range of reactions to the recent affluenza case for a loose yet topical point of reference. I enjoyed Brook's performance immensely as well, what little we did get to see. I found [SPOILERS] her execution of Fink to be one of the most jarring acts of violence in the game, and a surprising injection of humanity into Fink himself. For all the man was, he was afraid to die. I really don't think there was some unbelievable leap as Daisy made to shoot that child. It's an extreme yet understandable reversal of the treatment she and her followers suffered, young and old alike, with a more fearsome will driving it. Overall, I thought what we did get to see and hear from Daisy was a fitting distillation of a story the game was hinting at for a good while, but I'd argue it was all set dressing compared to Booker/Elizabeth's journey together. Fitzroy was functional as a foil to Comstock, and I think that was entirely intentional, as well as effective, given the game's true focus. That said, if people are going to talk about characters getting the short stick, I'd put forth [SPOILERS] Lady Comstock as a more wanting example than Fitzroy's character. I feel like she, along with the Boys of Silence, were among the inclusions in Infinite that saw so many cuts and revisions (in accordance with Irrational's famously merciless development process) to the point of being truly compromised.
lawoftheeast I agree with every word, except I too think that Fitzroy deserved a tidbit more spotlight just like Lady Comstock or Songbird. The short story Mind in Revolt adds some context to Fitzroy's personality, I wish this had been added in the game in a voxophone or something. I have my fingers crossed for a Columbia book.
Schmutte90 I've been meaning to look for the novella. I'm guessing it fleshes out Fitzroy's transformation more? I certainly wouldn't have objected to more Fitzroy, but as she turned out, I thought the few appearances she did have her organic and sufficient. I would have preferred Lady Comstock as a Voxophone-only experience (I feel her role would have been stronger that way) and the Siren as full-fledged heavy enemies encountered in multiple locations, with some sinister origin (example: experimentation on zealous Columbians by exposing them to a modified form of Liz's power in the labs at Monument Island). I found Liz's interaction with the ghost of Lady Comstock to be Infinite's story at its weakest.
As long as Irrational implements the concept of Sky-Lines in a future tittle, I'll be okay. Those one armed roller coasters are bloody brilliant, I absolutely loved the idea! Though, as much as I love the BioShock franchise, I think it's being run dry at this point. Not saying Infinite and it's DLC is bad or anything, but I believe everything good must come to an end.
I wonder if Elizabeth will meet Suchong or is he already dead by Big Daddy like in Bioshock 1 audiolog? Suchong's an interesting character, even if he is probably the most evil character in the Bioshock series.

Once that I finally understood Infinite after playing, Burial at sea comes out...I've seen the first part of this DLC and at the end I was like....Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? I need to see episode two NOW.
Andrew Ryan - My favorite antagonist of all time. I will be looking forward to his performance. As much as I want to like Ep 1, it was disappointing especially the story. I hope Ep 2 will kick me back into the experience and enjoyment of Bioshock.

My heart is literally broken when i heard irrational is shutting down, i cant believe this. My hope for another bioshock is dead, even if one is released it wont be the same if it is not by irrational. Thank you for creating the masterpiece that is the bioshock series.

that was really good, how it wove a lot of stuff together, but I felt like "wrapping everything up" negates ending to infinite. It was a really good way to strongly connect the events of Colombia to Rapture, but bordered on contrived. Bioshock is about free will and the ability on how free will you have to make choices, and Infinite hammered that in the head with constants and variables, every ending is an alternate ending and no more real than the others. There is always a lighthouse. There is always a man. The dlc gave Elizabeth a lot of power, but took it away, and you felt helpless watching your favorite character march towards death.
And the only thing keeping me alive from the infinite ending, was the thought of "if Combstock is really dead, Booker Dewitt can still exist from that point on, and Anna wouldn't have been taken in the first place, so Booker would be alive, and Anna wouldn't be trapped and tortured, so in some universe, they are together with a happy ending they deserve! RIGHT?!?" and I don't know if this mean that because Elizabeth got rid of her Lutece-like status for a mortal one to save the little sisters, what that means for other universe with Anna? I'm just sad all around, and maybe that carried into the game because it's (as far as I know) the last bioshock game ever, so they wanted to wrap up the story and have some kind of conclusion. I still love the heck out of these games, and how they can move me in such a way, and Booker Dewitt and Elizabeth are some of my favorite videogame characters of all time.

I would NOT consider Ken Levine one of those though.
I would consider Ken Levine a gaming God who is peerless in the industry imho.
When I play Irrational games I feel like that kid that's playing video games for the first time and that's the studios genius. It has one foot firmly in the roots of video games and the other pushing the envelope to what is possible in this still young and exciting form of telling stories.
Not excited that Fitzroy is back. Didn't care for her character.
I'm surprised to hear it. I thought she was short-lived but well-drawn. In the end, Infinite was about the core relationship between two people more than anything else, and if you didn't see it that way, a lot of characters and ideas (including Fitzroy) got relatively short shrift.
lawoftheeast Think that's primarily the reason a lot of people didn't care for her. Do to time/story constraints it's never really well explained how she goes from freedom fighter to fanatic and child murderer. It's hinted that it had something to do with the alternate Booker who died fighting for her cause and Elizabeth's manipulations of the tears/universes, but it doesn't ever go the distance to clarify and provide a bit more depth. She's suddenly just a bad guy on par with Comstock. However I did really enjoy the concept of her character and Kimberly Brook's performance, so it would be nice to see her expanded upon a bit.
+RogueScholarBlue I loved BioShock Infinite, but there was way more I wanted out of it than a more fully realized Fitzroy. The gaps in the story from the Tear-jumping gave plenty of room for our imaginations to fill, so she never touched my personal list of the game's shortcomings. Those breeze-overs were just incidental to the events of the main story. I found her motivation entirely relatable as well. Given the harsh lives of minorities in Columbia, it's not a far stretch at all for them to dehumanize their oppressors to the point of wishing harm to their persons, or even their young blood. Just look at the range of reactions to the recent affluenza case for a loose yet topical point of reference.
I enjoyed Brook's performance immensely as well, what little we did get to see. I found [SPOILERS] her execution of Fink to be one of the most jarring acts of violence in the game, and a surprising injection of humanity into Fink himself. For all the man was, he was afraid to die. I really don't think there was some unbelievable leap as Daisy made to shoot that child. It's an extreme yet understandable reversal of the treatment she and her followers suffered, young and old alike, with a more fearsome will driving it. Overall, I thought what we did get to see and hear from Daisy was a fitting distillation of a story the game was hinting at for a good while, but I'd argue it was all set dressing compared to Booker/Elizabeth's journey together. Fitzroy was functional as a foil to Comstock, and I think that was entirely intentional, as well as effective, given the game's true focus.
That said, if people are going to talk about characters getting the short stick, I'd put forth [SPOILERS] Lady Comstock as a more wanting example than Fitzroy's character. I feel like she, along with the Boys of Silence, were among the inclusions in Infinite that saw so many cuts and revisions (in accordance with Irrational's famously merciless development process) to the point of being truly compromised.

I agree with every word, except I too think that Fitzroy deserved a tidbit more spotlight just like Lady Comstock or Songbird. The short story Mind in Revolt adds some context to Fitzroy's personality, I wish this had been added in the game in a voxophone or something.

Schmutte90 I've been meaning to look for the novella. I'm guessing it fleshes out Fitzroy's transformation more? I certainly wouldn't have objected to more Fitzroy, but as she turned out, I thought the few appearances she did have her organic and sufficient.
I would have preferred Lady Comstock as a Voxophone-only experience (I feel her role would have been stronger that way) and the Siren as full-fledged heavy enemies encountered in multiple locations, with some sinister origin (example: experimentation on zealous Columbians by exposing them to a modified form of Liz's power in the labs at Monument Island). I found Liz's interaction with the ghost of Lady Comstock to be Infinite's story at its weakest.

This is the end to the Infinite series. I remember reading that if Irrational like an idea enough, they will make another game.

As long as Irrational implements the concept of Sky-Lines in a future tittle, I'll be okay. Those one armed roller coasters are bloody brilliant, I absolutely loved the idea!
Though, as much as I love the BioShock franchise, I think it's being run dry at this point. Not saying Infinite and it's DLC is bad or anything, but I believe everything good must come to an end.
I wish this was available as a standalone game (perhaps cheaper because it is DLC).
I wonder if Elizabeth will meet Suchong or is he already dead by Big Daddy like in Bioshock 1 audiolog? Suchong's an interesting character, even if he is probably the most evil character in the Bioshock series.
