Il existe une Jenny dans L’Opéra de quat’sous de Brecht et Weill, mais celle qui nous rend visite aujourd’hui n’a rien à voir avec elle. « The Saga of Jenny » est en effet un air issu de Lady in the Dark, comédie musicale composée par Kurt Weill en 1941 : l’air est devenu un standard du jazz. C’est aussi le cas de « Speak Low », sans aucun doute le song de Weill le plus souvent enregistré et interprété, puisqu’il l’a été par des artistes aussi divers que Billie Holliday, Carmen McRae, John Coltrane, etc. Il est issu de la comédie musicale One Touch of Venus (1943).
