There are other solutions, but they deal with reimbursement issues to get more money.
The other issue is making Emergency Medical Services (EMS) look amazing so more people will want to get trained up and come work in that field. The per hour wage we get needs to increase big time to attract new talent and a ton of it.
The pressing issue is fixing reimbursement and getting more money back and probably billing even when we don't transport to the hospital, eliminate mileage requirements (if applicable in the service area) and realize if anyone has a medical emergency and aren't lucky enough to already be at the hospital for immediate treatment then they will ultimately have to call for an ambulance to get help. Therefore unless your a crazy lucky person to have a cardiac arrest, stroke, seizure or whatever medical emergency right at the emergency room entrance at the nearest hospital, you gotta deal with and pay a decent wage for emt's (emergency medical technicians) and Paramedics or intermediate emt's to show up and help you.

Yes, raising taxes is ONE WAY to pay us more. Usually, that doesn't pass when it is voted on.

They definitely do, I myself make $24.5 an hour working as a Frito Lay merchandiser without a college degree. I was debating on becoming an EMT or Paramedic but if I become an RSA for Frito lay I technically will get paid $28 per hour plus bonus. I’m not sure if it’s worth it

People don't appreciate us or see the need for ambulances/1st responders until they really need us. Then realizing a tax rate increase is how we would get a raise people don't want more expenses.
Then when I've personally reached out to the local elected representatives/local politicians you hear crickets when you ask for help. It's so FRUSTRATING but I still have to work.

They rely on tax payers dollars, plus from what ive been told, insurance reimbursements are not great when it comes to prehospital care.

Thanks for sharing/getting the word out on Emergency Medical Services (EMS)!
We need politicians to focus on getting us a liveable wage, making Emergency Medical Services (EMS) an "essential service" in every state in the USA and reforming Medicare and Medicaid billing because it's hard to get $100 back when we pay 2 people to staff the ambulance, pay for gas/vehicle maintenance, use expensive supplies and medications to help people.

I started off at $9.00/hr myself as a Basic EMT. 😂😂😂
That was about ten years ago, though. I make $30.00/hr now, but I had to leave 9-1-1 to get that and work in an Urgent Care. But if Paramedic positions in 9-1-1- EMS ever goes up again, I would *definitely* get back on the truck. That's the best and most fun job I have ever had in my life, and I would jump at the opportunity to go back to doing it... just not at the cost of my family's well-being. 😊

I ALWAYS ALWAYS SAY-why do nurses make RIDICULOUS money but the paramedics who are the ones ACTUALLY saving lives don’t make anything?!? Can someone explain this?!? Please!! Also, in my experience, paramedics CARE and are AMAZING and nurses are bitches.

    • @BrotherKnowledge.
      @BrotherKnowledge. Před 7 měsíci +1

Now... to be fair... there are some Nurses who truly do give a damn about their patients. And when they shine, they SHINE.
      But to answer your question:
Nurses are well-supported; far better supported than we (Paramedics) have ever been. They even have lobbyists on capital hill fighting for them and representing their interests.
We don't have such support. There have been and are some attempts to create it, but they just have not manifested into anything that can drive real progress in EMS.
      Also...
Emergency Medical Services are not supported by the government, either. For the most part, we are either forced to be a part of Fire, which neither Fire nor EMS likes because Firemen hate working EMS calls and Paramexics have absolutely no interest in running towards fires. But because EMS isn't valued on it's own, *40% of us* work for Fire Departments that use more than 80% of their budgets to help Fire, and maybe 20% to help and grow EMS.
Then, we have also been sold out to private companies. Because... capitalism.
18% of EMS is ran by a private company. And they are allergic to paying us a fair wage in most cases because that cuts into their profits. And as we all know, we can *NOT* cut into a company's profits. That isn't good for business.
So, there you have it. A lack of support, a lack of value, a lack of funding, and a lack of investment, and a lack of representation all plays a part in Men and Women having such an honorable job while getting the most disrespectful pay that can come along with it in most places in the U.S.
