That voice is insane. His speaking voice is lower than most bass singers can sing. Especially those fake "lowest bass note" video posers. J. D. was the real deal - period.

      I think you're right Sean.
I'm kind of one of those wannabe bass singer myself totoo and it's a great thrill to improve my lower range.
Strangest thing is that I'm also a trumpet player too. That and one who's learned through hard work how to play the higher notes.
What I've found is that the process of increasing the higher range on the horn feels similar to when practicing my lower vocal range. Both take lots of work and perseverance.
If one doesn't have the natural low voice like JD or the recently deceased Harold Reid (Statler Bros)? Then the vocalist absolutely MUST practice hard to develop and maintain the lower register.

Something that JD Sumner said resonates with me. I lost my wife a little bit more than a year ago and being at home is one of the hardest things to do. About the only time I ever go home is to sleep. It's especially hard for me to go into the office.
Many, many times with the business when we were cranking out the work she would sit there and play her puzzles on the internet, and I would do my paperwork and get things ready for the next day. I loved her so, so much. I understand exactly what JD Sumner is saying, and what he is going through.
For a long time I just didn't care. I didn't care if I lived or died. I think I'm past that now by the Grace of God, but it is still very hard. I sympathize with anybody who has lost a spouse. It's like you lose a part of you.

J.D. Sumner has always been my hero. When I was a teenager, he always took the time to talk and encourage me and he was never too big to show love to everyone. Through the years, I had J.D. and the Blackwoods, and the Master's Five sing at my churches. He was and always will be the number one reunited with his beloved wife, and knelt joyfully at the foot of Jesus, when he came before Him, his Lord and master who he faithfully served all those years. I look forward to seeing you soon J.D.,!

I loved J.D. who was like a 2nd daddy to me and my 3 siblings, my family promoted music during the 70's and 80's, we also met Elvis Presley right before he died, upon Elvis's request thru J.D. who was my parents best friend. I think J.D. had been talking to Elvis about our music and concerts which is why Elvis heard about us and wanted to meet our family. Elvis Presley gave our dad a beautiful silk scarf he had written a whole paragraph on it thanking us for promoting music during the 70's and autographed it, we miss them both but we have hundreds of photos and a few videos of all of them. We promoted J.D. and the Stamps quartet, Alabama, The Oak Ridge Boys, Jake Hess, The Gaither's, and 100's of others. I've known J.D. since I was 10 years old, we used to go on vacations together with his family, Love you my 2nd dad J.D. Sumner, see you and Elvis Presley again in Heaven when we get there, and yes I still remember the songs you and Elvis sang with us when I was young!

One of our main duties as Christians is to bring people to Christ, and that's what JD was talking about when he was talking about being able to sing gospel music with Elvis to his crowd, that may not have as many Christians as a normal gospel crowd. What a life JD led. RIP JD and Elvis, TCB⚡.
