These videos are so helpful for those of us who leave large gaps of time between reading a book and its sequel. I don't feel like rereading the whole book again just to remember what happened.
Way late, but the Prism's thing is that he can split light not that he can draft all 7 colors. There are full spectrum mages that are not the prism its just extraordinarily rare.
Great job!
But just one thing, you said that Corvan doesn't know about Dazen taking Gavin's life. He does know and at their first meeting they head to the porch of the palace for privacy and they hug or something, they also agree to hate each other in public, so the people won't suspect.
taking gavin's identity was a joke-ish idea by corvan first
Da-duke...
"This" Daniel is lot jumpier than the present one!
(That's what ya call *Character Growth*)
Found you by accident but I'm SO HAPPY I did lol
Love this series !!
Just finished this book, yeah a little late to the party, but it was awesome and I appreciate the summary so when I start book 2 I have an easy reference source! Thank you
I enjoy all of Daniel's videos and happened upon this while researching the Lightbringer series. Wow, such a shockingly different and uncomfortable version of Daniel! When I saw this I immediately wanted to go back in time and give this Daniel a hug.
There are those that can do all seven colors, the Prism is just the one who can draw those colors directly from light by splitting it, and the Prism can draft as much as he wants till the end of their predetermined life span (usually in divisible of seven).
Dude keep up the good work, really enjoying your summaries. Also Brent Weeks is a ridiculously good author! Check out the Night Angel trilogy if you havent already, thats the trilogy that got me hooked. Peter v Brett also has a very good 5 book series called the Demon Cycle, would love to hear your take on it!
Great summary. Standing or sitting doesn't change the video much for me. The hand movement however, adds energy and emphasis to your words, so I prefer you standing. As for Black Prism, I read the first book awhile ago and it may be time for book 2. You do make it sound appealing. Happy New Year and good fortune.
First book good, second book GREAT! Then it stays GREAT. Highly suggest you stick with it.
hey boss i see u dont have the most subscribers and u deserve way more!! i came back to these books after a while and im so glad that u can debunk them because im remembering the details u explained as u talk really thankful cheers buddy
ChroMERIA.
And as always, I was pronouncing everything wrong!
Well, I've been considering reading this series for a long time, but I always picked something else to read. After watching the first five minutes of your review, I think I'll give it a go tomorrow. I didn't watch the Harry Potter reviews, but not because I don't like Harry Potter, I love the Harry Potter series. It's just, I've read them so many times as a kid (and a couple of times as an adult) that I can almost recite some scenes word for word. I hope I'll love The Black Prism as much as you do. Thanks!
I can guarantee you will like the Black Prism
It's not that I don't like Harry Potter, it's more JK has gone off the deep end in recent years.
But I can and do separate creators from their works. Thing is, Harry Potter is just another version of the hero myth told with a different skin. Which is completely fine. I just was a kid when it was read to me, then I finished it myself. Seemed hype back then, now, not so much.
Good video.
When I picture Andross Guile I always think of Carter Pewterschmidt for some reason 😂
I always think of Christopher Lee, RIP
This
Sounds
So
Damn
Great
Nice, there were a few things I was confused about.. I watched this video and it cleared everything up. Great summary.
I would love to see some sci-fi books like We are legion or Fear the sky!
Great video mate, been trying to remember what was going on in this book to summarize to a friends since i read it 6 7 years ago and it was just what i needed
This was great, thanks. I accidentally started with the blinding knife for my refresher before the new read. But I was already 10 chapters in for some reason before so realized what had happened. (AudioBook) I totally needed exactly this. Thanks!
Great summary! Pleas do book 2 in this series.
I always felt like the Chromaria has more of an Central Asian influence: The currency (dinars), the conquerors from the outer world (Eurasia), the Persian government names, and the Cerulean see being somewhat reminiscent of the Adriatic sea's geography, the Persian weapons, etc.
Did you mean the Black Sea because if so, that's interesting. I always thought of the whole Mediterranean (not just the Adriatic which doesn't quite fit) but with Italy or more specifically Rome as an island. Dernarius as the inspiration for the coinage. The Vatican in the centre (actually it is more West than centre, but still in the ocean, isolated) for the Chromeria with Rome as the Jaspers and being fed by the Satrapies like Rome from Africa and Egypt, (making Tyrea and its oranges as a parallel to Egypt and its ancient empire perhaps? Not as direct a parallel as the surface ones you note but still...). Ilyta is very similar to Sicily with its piracy issues for ancient Rome. The tower of Orholam at the end of the Burning White is then situated in the ocean as a Mount Olympus parallel but your points about the Satrapies and the weapons makes a lot of sense. It certainly fits for the Everdark gates being the Hellespont/Dardanelles and Bosphorous rather than the Straits of Gibraltar that I had assumed.
Needed this video.. I read this book years ago... don't remember it at all
Kip is the fucking TURTLEBEAR! Kip is everything.
Great video as always. Please do the Chronicles of Amber next! Ps, I think it's Chromeria not Chromeia. Not sure though, I read the spanish translation.
I really appreciate your consistent support man. Seriously, you rock. Ill add Chronicles of Amber up on my list. Start reading by summer!
Thanks dude. It's great to see you keeping up the effort, I've seen a lot of youtube channels flare out because the creators lose interest.
I really love Kip he is my type of MC
I read this book earlier in the year! I forgot quite a bit and needed a refresher. Thank you for the summary Great Job!
awesome! I've finally got around to reading the final book but really needed a recap. so this was a god send! stay golden pony boy.
Just downloaded book 1 on my kindle and figured I’d check out an OG vid of you reviewing it. 💪🏼💪🏼
not sure if you said DOES or DOESN'T so Corvan Absolutely knows that Dazen is posing as Gavin, even more Corvan was the one suggesting the idea to Dazen since both of them knew that they made lots of bad deals with a lot of bad people and their win of the war would be the end of the empire.
Just finished this book so I cam to check out your recap. Pretty good except for a couple things. The big inaccuracy in your recap is that you stated that Corvin doesn't know about Dazen posing as Gavin. Corvin has known the whole time and was in fact present when Dazen first started throwing around the idea, helping work out the initial details, and in fact helped Dazen replicate a distinctive scar of Gavin's. Another this is that I probably would have left out the part about the prison having many levels until the end as that is a big twist that only comes up in the last chapter.
Best series ever
Watching these before reading the burning white. Still golden!
Great video Daniel! This is my favorite series of all time! You should do one for the blood mirror =)
Getting ready to read book 2, so thank you.
This sounds like an interesting series. Please summarise the other books.
I was looking on amazon for a book for a project, and I accidentally bought the third book, not knowing it was a series. This video is really helpful! Cause I don’t want to try and read all three books in 10 Days!
The covers are def meh, but damn Brent is a powerhouse. So hyped for NANemisis, just as the world is coming apart, and not too far away! Hoping Doors of Stone is released before all hell breaks loose, but we shall see! Great summary.
Glad to hear you like this series and great summary of the first book, like with your Harry Potter videos. Have you also read the Night Angel trilogy? If you have, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it, and if possible a summary of it as well ^_^
Just finished the first book !!! In Love
Also "Lord Omnichrome" is seriously some Warhammer 40k or anime tier camp, and I love it.
Keep up the great work! Waiting on the day you get to the Mistborn series ;)
Eventually....Down the road....It was not my favorite, though I hear it gets better.
Oh man, just found out that last book is out and I dont remember anything... Thank you!
The prism isn't the only one who can use all 7 (or more) colors. He just doesn't have to pay the cost like others do.
Damn Daniel back at it again with the puffy hair!
Much better than the first upload! I may listen to audio books on x2 but you pack 40 hours in 10 min! :)
Yeah, there was an editing oops!
Great video!
Would you ever consider doing a more comprensive and spoiler filled summary. with some more watch time. I would really like to re read lightbringer for example, before the last book comes, but i aint got time.
Or do you think few people would watch that?
Thank you for summarizing the book!
Were you planning on summarizing the rest of the books? "The Burning White" is out and I'm looking for a summary of the previous book to jog my memory.
Good video and enjoy all of your videos so far. BTW Corvan did know that Gavin was Dazen. If you look at their conversation again it's pretty apparent.
Your recaps are very helpful!
Nice video, I was looking at that series, and I think I'm going to get book one now. Also, have you ever thought about doing a review on The Sword of Shannara?
Great synopsis! Thanks bro!
"I have to sneeze"
I read the book on your recommendation. I did enjoy it but I feel that you are overstating how good it is. While I enjoyed it I don't think it is comparable to Stormlight Chronicles.
I disagree. It’s different but amazing as well.
I disagree. It’s different but amazing as well.
I love both series, but think that Sanderson's writing is better.
Awesome review!! You are hilarious at 1.25x speed!!
Spoiler alert.
Kip is Dazens and Gavins half brother.😂😂😂😂
Andros is his dad.
I SO need to read this
Do more videos like this... Now this helps people like me to refresh their memory and start continuing next book...
Thank you 👍
One of "seven" colors.
Thanks for the refresher! Overall I liked this book; the plot is strikingly original and the world is fascinating! However, I wish that it didn’t read as the narration of an overly horny teenage boy 😵💫the description of each woman introduced really took me out of the story :/
Having read this series now, this summary is painful to listen to. The books are "fair" work with good writing. If you like heavily introspective characters, this series is for you. If not, this is a series of 5 books that should have been 3. I found the story interesting, but grew tired of the mary sue nature of some characters. Something we do know in the first book, the Black Guard have a duty to kill wights AND the Prism, if commanded to do so.
Dude u can take a color test, imma supercromat and a polychrome, orange yellow and blue.
"...like our federal government with a lot less power. Basically if the libertarians had their way".
Or just if the US Constitution had its way.
I have found my people.
HOLY SHIT MAN!! You can't Stand Stilll!!! I swear my eyes have traveled to *CHINA* and back...Seriously, I like the standing alot more.
Damn, you misremembered a lot of this book.
I love your videos but this one..has me going bonkers from your constant swaying, like you’re tweaking or something haha
A date with my girl Mary? Love you man
hand movement is fine but the body movement is jarring
I have to make this comment on this book video for obvious reasons once you read the comment, but before that
SPOILER
The Title ITSELF is a HUGE foreshadowing. The reason it's called "The Black Prism" is because Dazen's primary color is actually BLACK. Even after he goes color blind and he can only see in shades of white, grey, and black, he can still use his color, but he chooses not to because of what it represents. On a side note, even though his primary color is supposedly the embodiment of evil, he can also use White (though he doesn't know he did it). He's quite literally the greatest Prism to have ever lived.
first!
waaaiitt...
....cocaine?
Stop moving, I’m feeling sea sick 🤢
I'm so confused by your channel. You've already reviewed the black prism (address below). The other one is a "review" but this is a "let's summarise", although this summary edition is longer than your actual review. In fact, this summary appears to be 15 minutes of you discussing the book in its entirety. That isn't a "summary" and is actually one big spoiler. No one likes spoilers after all. I think these episodes should be called "Let's analyse" as this is an actual detailed interpretation of the book and lets the viewer know that it may contain spoilers. A summary would imply that it is brief and only covers the main points of the novel.
I love your reviews as you're an ultra sweet guy with great view points and opinions, but I hate spoilers and think others will benefit from clearing this up too. czcams.com/video/XyVZaYWzZHE/video.html
Adam Mendez You’re a moron if you see a video called Let’s Summarize and don’t think it’ll go through the whole book. Honestly instead of complaining, why don’t you try using your brain
Pretty Alright, so you think I'm a moron for assuming a summary would be... well... a summary? Are you sure about that? You want to rethink that one maybe? You're looking pretty silly right about now. An entire break down of the book is not a summary, it's an analysis, simple as. Others will watch the video thinking it's a summary of the main points of the book, only to find, as I did, that he is actually just telling you everything. I think I made a fair point.
Adam Mendez no an analysis would go much deeper. Dissecting the themes, symbols, and allegories that the author used and intended to use, as well as the true meaning behind the story. Your “Analysis” sounds mediocre at best
