- In this TED Talk, young Malawian William Kamkwamba describes how he built a windmill to power his family's home aged 14, during a time of poverty and famine. The windmill produced electricity and was built from spare parts and scrap.

Just watched it too on Netflix. I'm an avid cyclist too so I felt that pain Dad must have felt when his Bike got hacksawed up. BTW if AOC gets her way with this "Green New Deal" we'll ALL be living like these folks in Africa live.
I just finished the movie, so inspiring. I just clicked a random movie while cleaning up around the house and after about 10 minutes it caught my attention and I sat on the couch and didn't leave. What an awesome story.

Well for me it was a school task, I was so behind 🤣 I think they finished the book while I haven’t started it!
I work in a power plant and I'll tell you that 90% of the people in there don't know how to build a simple circuit let alone a wind mill.

This incredible story of William brought tears in my eyes... I first watched this on Netflix... But each time I watch and feel inspired think of William. Courage in your struggles.. Everyone around the world...William's story is a game changer....

@@PamphileJonathanummm, no. He saved his home from starvation by applying himself and finding an ingenious solution. He is more a man than many of the “Men” in my country (USA) will ever be.
A perfect example to prove that science and engineering MAKE things happen. Also his perseverance and sacrifice to save his family of that situation of famine was amazing. 👐

And He had Quit School so he can Invent That. At 14years he is quite accomplished for a 1st Year High School Dropout. He would be capable of more a lot quicker and more efficiently with knowledge based help though. Good things from him when he finishes in SA.

I have a friend who are similar to him. He used to repair a lot of things and he is better then friend who go to university as, he didnt have opportunity. I wish one day his time will come where he can shine and use his potential to help more people. I admired him a lot as much as you inspired me.

For the price of a few airline tickets they could’ve provided some windmills and solar panels to the people of this village. But getting the story out is far more powerful. Providing this recognition of human achievement in the face of adversity encourages and inspires people well outside of his village to do great things themselves.

Have you noticed the number of naysayers when you want to turn your life around? It could be simple things like getting back in shape or a new career; people often are a stumbling block! The best way to go about it is to keep your plans a secret or, (in his case a windmill is hard to hide), ignore ignore ignore the bashers.

I do recommend reading the book. I fell in love with his whole family, and admire their values; we all have much to learn from other cultures--and especially their most exceptional sons and daughters, as William Kamkwamba is.
I was sad for a while when Khamba died :(

May Lord help me. One day i will feed the poor motivate them , build a better future. I will never give up on my dream.

that’s good but correction africa is the richest place in the world with an abundance of natural resources that supply the whole world. Many multi millionaires live in the urban parts of Africa
