I love the fact that Yahushua of Nazareth at the beginning of His ministry, in His hometown, narrated this Eliajah event. Unless they believe, there will be drought in thruout the land, and the good food will be given to Gentiles. Upon hearing this, they understood and tried to throw Him a way, like Jesbel, off the cliff. I like also to think that Eliajah's prayer to make the true God known is very similar Yehushua's own prayer at St. John's Gospel chapter 17.

Elijah, meaning The Lord is God, was commissioned to reconcile Israel with her God, to turn the hearts of children to their fathers, but he got caught up in the loud proclamations of the people, chanting "Elijah! Elijah", which was supposed to be directed at God, but sounded like they were hailing him, thus made the mistake of single handedly beheading 450 prophets of baal, and 400 prophets of asherah, personal prophets of Jezebel 1 Kings 18:19, 40. No wonder she became livid with anger and wanted his head. Jezebel was a princess and a queen 1 Kings 16:31-32; and led king Ahab astray from the God of Israel, not unlike what Herodias and Salome, a queen and a princess, did to Herod, and fulfilled Jezebel's threat in John the Baptist, who came in the power and Spirit of Elijah, to fulfill his commission by bringing back a repentant Israel to her God, by means of baptism. That was why Jesus Christ didn't intervene in his situation, and John couldn't understand why. Matthew 11:2-6, 14:1-13.
The same was for both Moses and Elijah, they believed they couldn't fulfill God's commission and asked God to kill them instead, because they met with great human resistance. Moses died, but his body was protected from the devil who had the power over death and was preserved and Elijah was transported from this world in a chariot of fire, until their restoration to faith in God, through Christ Jesus, on the mount of transfiguration Numbers 11:14-15; 1 Kings 19:4; Matthew 17.
When God gives a commission, He enables us by His Holy Spirit to fulfill it, but we must trust and obey His leading, and not lean unto our own understanding, else, we will be discouraged and would want to give up. We must always remember " not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit", says the Lord! Too late, Moses found out he had enough power of and for more than 70 prophets, and became disillusioned enough to seek death, because he listened to his father in law, who despised his commission and belittled his his ability, undermined his calling, mocking his God that called him, because he himself was a wealthy tribal chief and he only saw Moses as a criminal, a murderer, a wanted fugitive, whom he harbored and permitted to marry his daughter. He didn't treat Moses right, that was why Moses ended up at the backside of the wilderness, keeping his sheep that the girls used to herd, until God met him there. His overbearing attitude overwhelmed Moses, and he made the mistake of replacing him as God and leader, then tried to prove himself to him by going ahead to judge the people of God- showing off to his father in law, and tried to prove his own achievements since leaving his home. This became his undoing as Hobab only insulted him the more and brainwashed him into thinking he couldn't fulfill God's commission. He lost God's presence and this got Israel to wonder for 38 more years in the wilderness, because they were fed up with all these. Numbers 9, 10. They no longer allowthe pillarsof cloudand fire to lead them, he wanted Hobab to be their eyes in instead Exodus 18. We serve a God that is really plenteous in mercy, as David would say!
Elijah became fearful of Jezebel because he knew she had killed a lot of God's prophets before 1 Kings 18:3-4. He forgot his commission was different from theirs, and God even hid him until his time to show the power of the God of Israel.
Let us be encouraged and abide in our calling, believing the Lord that called us, until He returns as promised! He is Faithful and True.

One question mark on an otherwise fine video. Yes it is true how when Naboth refused to sell his vineyard because of land laws dating from Moses, Jezebel had him bumped off. However that happened much later in the sequence, shortly after which Ahab was killed in battle. Elijah started his ministry in response to the extreme idolatry described in chapter 16.

The God that created each of us and the reality we experience needs not someone to speak for Him. He is more than capable of speaking to each one of us in any language. Moreover in that He is creating each and everyone of our existence from inside outwardly He can speak to us without word. We know this by the innate right and wrong when making decisions. “Sin” is not an obstacle nor is anything else to God to keep Him away from that what He is holding. Seems to make a very good story though but as for it being history I can not say I was around nor anyone I know was either….
