Azzie is 32. He has been in a wheelchair since he was 3 due to Giant Azonal Neuropathy, a rare degenerative motor neurone disease. This condition does not stop Azzie from being an active man; he is a foodie, dancer, circus performer and also plays wheelchair basketball and rugby.
Azzie opposes pharmaceuticals and praises natural medicine naturopathy. He finds the connection with nature quite healing.
The Ministry of Health provides Azzie a wheelchair that supports mobility only around his home. Recently, Azzie’s neighbour set up a give a little page that put almost $6k together for a powered up wheelchair that will support Azzie’s outdoors life. ACC in New Zealand covers electric chairs for people who have been in accidents, which is not Azzie’s case.
Azzie is sharp and loves to talk about human behaviour, our vices, virtues and desisres.
