  • Joey Logano was not on anyone's championship radars. He was the most consistent car beside's the Big 3 and would win two monumental races in the playoffs that would clinch him his first Cup Series Championship.

This exact fall race in 2018, Martin Truex Jr had enough playoff points entering the round of 8, unless 2 more drivers from the bottom 8 won.
On the contrary, Joey Logano in a must win situation right there.

For once NASCAR was actually consistent with their scoring system. The playoffs are way more important than the regular season and Logano was the most consistent during the playoffs. He had the best average finish, 6 top 5 finishes, and 8 top 10s during the playoffs. While he came 2nd in leading the most laps behind Harvick, Joey showed that you being consistent in this sport rewards more than wins. So like or not, #heisyourchampion.

I feel he got a lot more respect after what happened in Sunday night at Homestead. Sure if the Jack doesn't come loose in 2014 and he could have gotten by 7 Time in 2016 he would probably be considered the 2010's version of my favorite NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. I'm a Logano fan and two years later, I've watched that Martinsville finish countless times. However, a thought just occurred to me. They were side by side for several laps at the end. At 4:15 do you think Logano let Truex clear him so he could move him in turn 3? The idea just came to me but it makes sense. It would be hard to get a better drive off of 4 with Truex to his inside, but you can't move him. I think Logano may have let Truex clear him so he could send him deep into turn 3. Just my random thought. Regardless, it was still an amazing finish

The Martinsville race is now the stuff of NASCAR Legend. I'm a fan of Joey, i don't get some people making him out to be this terrible driver. Hes done nothing that the greatest the sport has to offer hasn't to win races. I remember this guy coming into the sport and getting walked all over by almost everybody, including the guys he raced for a championship. I never really took notice of the guy until the whole "I guess we know who wears the firesuit in that family" comment. From that moment on you saw a change in him as a driver, he stopped getting run over and started doing the running. Now, hes a NASCAR elite. Alot of people will overlook the stats of his season because he only had 3 wins, however look at those wins. The fastest plate track on the circuit, the shortest track on the circuit, and the one means the most besides the Daytona 500.

No one deserves a title, they earn it. No one deserves win, they earn it. Take a look back at that Kansas race, he had a nose on the inside of Kenseth. They fought for the same real estate and Kenseth lost the battle. The bump to Truex at Martinsville meant Miami, anybody leading into that final corner with a chase behind them was going to get hammered. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the bump and run from Joey and if you think there was you aren't a NASCAR fan. Truex wasn't smart enough to stay to the inside of Joey going into 3 he had to pass. Had he let off just a bit and made Joey stay up top then that negated the bump and run. He probably would have won the drag race out of 4 and won. Instead he passed him clean like he wasn't expecting to get shoved. That was dumb. I'm a fan of Truex, his rise to the top has been amazing. He should be madder at himself than at Joey though.

@Nolan Cain truex only had sponsor issues with mwr after the cheating scandal. dei he had tons of sponsors and in mwr he has little to no issues until the end and with frr he had some struggles toward the end aswell. he deserved the title in 2017 but this year it was more deserved for kb or kh or JL truex wasn't the most consistent towards the end anyway
