  • Does an Aliexpress $22 Everdrive Clone have any merit? Maybe!
    Not linking the product reviewed in the video, as it's a clone and supporting the original creator is the only reason these exists.

    Not sure about the GBC one but these Krikzz knock offs often seem to be missing some FPGA special sauce and consume power at almost double the rate on my GBA example

      good point. There's a number of the clone revisions that mention power consumption. Some say "improved low power use", other say "do not use Gameboy with alkaline batteries". the later implying when writing to flash the sudden power demand will brown-out the system as alkaline chemistry isn't great on higher current draw. Krikzz's Everdrive have the magic sauce; the clones are hit and miss.

    I bought mine specifically to run some rom hacks. A few of the roms were botched and soft-bricked the cart. Taking the battery out a few seconds fixed it.

    Pokemon g.s.c. rtc feature causes different monsters to be available at different times of day, and certain events happen on certain days of the week.

      Gold, Silver, and Crystal have patches where you can select the date and time every time you boot up the game. Just figured I'd mention this because it makes these games fully playable as intended on everdrives without a real time clock.

    I don’t own a Gameboy. Never have. Never cared. Still watched your video, not sure why. Good job

    This is actually a clone of the original Everdrive GB from before the X3, X5 and X7. The feature set and firmware are identical.

    My “Gameboy GB” doesn’t have the option to swap a/b, which is a shame since the weird a-to-cancel default button scheme gets old real fast.

      agreed! first that makes the experience feel clunky when navigation is unintuitive.

    So, does the clock cause trouble with Pokémon since they have a clock? I’m looking at picking something like this up, and can’t afford an everdrive proper.

    • @RetroBuiltGames
      @RetroBuiltGames  Před 4 měsíci

      not a problem per say, more like a small downside. Some Pokémon games have events that only occur at certain times (tracked by the RTC). You might have issues getting a certain NPC or pokemon to show up because the RTC is not working.

      You should use a modified rom that allows you to set the time everytime the game turns on again. That way everything works as normal. Only need to set the time each time you play.

    does it support super gameboy compatible roms and actually enables super gameboy enhancements?

      Check the coin battery (measure voltage). New battery are at least 3.3 V nominal. If it's writing to SRAM and it will backup to SD card- cart; id say it functions. However, if you lose data when it's powered off >>> back up battery is dead. You can de-solder and replace.

    I have had a few of these and it's only been my fault when they stop working. Often I've turned the system off while it's trying to update firmware and it's ruined the cart

      Lot of little devices are still using these alkaline batteries, it isn't unusual.
