    This is such a great video. I’m new to the cast net thing and I was blessed to see your method demonstrated by another guy in my very first video several days ago. Cred to you tho, your video came out 3 years ago, his just one year. They differ very slightly. To show the simplicity of the throw he tucks the off hand weights in his pocket! Doesn’t even use his off hand. And, he throws a 6’, 8’, and 10’ net.
    I’m with you, my needs are met with a smaller net and the method you use to throw it has worked for me from the first throw.
    Very, very well done and thanks again for sharing.

    When I tried ur method my net landed like a folded taco 🌮. I’m sure it’s me. I modified a bit by gathering 4 leads in my throw arm & now I’m throwing pancakes 🥞!! I’m 5’7” with obviously shorter arms. Ur method lead me to find what works for me. No folds, no mystery grip, very simple.

    I just bought a cast net 6fter never used it but my buddy’s are telling me to use my mouth and all this I like this technique a lot better! Let me ask you is it going to be useful to throw from shore? Also your throwing hand (my right) releases then I left go with my left just a second later I keep getting half the net good half the net bad?

    • @TheWeekendAngler
      @TheWeekendAngler  Před 2 lety

      I tried the mouth technique. It's not really necessary on the smaller nets, but if you go to a large size net there's no avoiding it.
      Yes, the throwing arm releases a split second before the support arm. It's all timing, but you'll get the hang of it.
      I throw mine from shore a lot. Be prepared to hang it up from time to time, but that is going to happen whether you're in a boat or on the bank.

  • @jamesweber4938
    @jamesweber4938 Před rokem +1

    There are a ton of videos showing how to throw a cast net but I cant find any that show how they work ? What happens after the weights sink to the bottom and how does the net close and trap the fish ?

    • @TheWeekendAngler
      @TheWeekendAngler  Před rokem +1

      The weights pull the net down like a giant umbrella. The fish get caught in the umbrella. When you pull the rope to bring in the net, it gathers the lead line up towards the top of the net. The fish remain trapped in the side net pieces.
      Once in the boat you hold the net by the plastic yoke and the fish fall out.

      It depends on the time of year. I usually only target them in the late fall or mid spring. Late fall I look for them near bridge pylons. Mid spring when the water starts to warm I look for them up shallow in their spawning areas. If there is wind, fish the shoreline the wind is blowing towards.
