Whoever has picked that song he/she knows Scorpion.
Wish I had! Charon is a game changer. Thank you Internet.
Yeah, because especially here in the U.S., not as many of us had been exposed to pre-1981 (pre-"Blackout") Scorpions and the great Ulrich (Uli Jon) Roth material... personally, I came across it rather late (around 1985-86). But was I ever FLOORED once I experienced it! The music of Uli Jon Roth just flat-out KICKS MY ASS... one of my favorite musicians!
Glenn Hecker just heard this song today courtesy of Dave Mustaine. I read he said “it was almost an unwritten rule that you had to be able to play the Sails of Charon solo to be worth your salt”. So I came to the song and said “okay Dave you’re on”. Currently butchering said solo haha
OnurSevenDoğan No shit!!

Hot damn. Deep cuts! There are Scorp fans who don't even know about this gem.
~true, i never listened to any of the 70's albums except sting in the tail, which i didn't like as much as blackout so i listened to blackout onwards in my teens . . . but found this tune on youtube about 5 years ago and immediately loved it !!
Yep for me Blackout was the "first" Scorps album. I heard Sails of Charon for the first time a few months ago and wow. The Groove. The Voice! Just glad our boys here didn't dig into the lyrics 🤣
FYI this video is better (same audio track)... All that Marshall and Hiwatt love... czcams.com/video/Zs5NOrYYV2s/video.html
jedi that albums actually called Love at first sting lol
~: )you guys want a deepcut from the 70's? try this one on for size - czcams.com/video/_jXSKlggRCo/video.html . . . enjoy!
This track must be heard in a lifetime. It's incredible neo classical
Charon is the ferryman who sails back and forth across the Styx, the river of the underworld connecting the realm of the living with that of the dead, in Greek mythology. Jon Ulrich Roth, Scorpions' lead guitar player who left after the 1978 Tokyo Tapes live album is one of the most talented snare pickers around. The music of the Scorpions went more mainstream hard rock not long after he left, aiming at radioplay and success in the US.
I was not expecting this one! The Scorpions were unfairly lumped in with the hair metal scene of the 80s but The Scorpions were always heavier and sharper than their pop metal brethren. Good choice!
Is it really unfair? Scorpions and Judas Priest both made serious radio play friendly changes in the 80s. The only thing unfair, IMO is that people think stuff like Tease Me, Please Me, and Rock You Like a Hurricane is ALL the Scorps did... both bands were WAY better in the 70s than in the 80s, IMO.
killerpeaches7 That's more along the lines of what I was getting at.
Joseph Polito heal yes! This band is up there with Rush, Zeppelin, Dio, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest (old school priest) and lead the way for Powerwolf, Avantasia, and Rammstein.
They purposefully went it that direction - more commercial - after Uli Roth left.
likes metal and witcher 3! I see a man of culture there :)
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
What I love about early hard-rock and metal like this is you can still hear the blues and R&B influence.
Probably the 1st example of true "shredding" I ever heard in rock or metal. Still remember when my buddy clued me into this song. Absolutely blew my mind. Still does.
I can't believe of all the Scorpions songs they picked one that I couldn't even remember until I heard it.
Jamie Laszlo This is real Scorpions lol. You must have been listening ti Mattias Jabs Scorpions and not Uli Roth Scorpions
Spitzer Impact I have this album. And I know the song. I just couldnt remember it until I heard it
Jamie Laszlo that makes sense. It happens, songs like Dark Lady and Another by Scorpions on the same album which i can't remember the name. We'll Burn The Sky. Songs like those are unmistakable but are obscure because of the success of the Scorpions in the 1980's after Uli Roth left and Mattias Jabs came. Which is their most successful commercial days. Good songs from both guitarists
Jamie Laszlo It is very old. Most fans know very little of the Michael Shenkner or UJR versions of Scorps.
“Foreplay/Long Time” by Boston
Javier yes! Good call!!! I haven't even thought of that one before.
Triumph, a band that you have probably never of and were overlooked by many. " Fight the Good Fight " is a tune that sends a message to " Never Surrender " and always keep the faith.
MAXX WICK George and Ryan will love the.message, Rik's melody, and the groove.
Lay it on the Line is another great one!!
Triumph! The name says it all. I would add Hold On and Magic Power, as well as the drum break Druh Mer Selbo off the stages live album. Love this band, and they definitely don't get the admiration they deserve. Always thought Rik Emmett never got his due kudos as a singer.
Fight the Good Fight one of my all time favs!
MAXX WICK Thin Red Line- Saxon
Love this song! It's crazy how apparently not a lot of Scorpions fans don't know this one! It's one of my many favorites from them! So Happy y'all liked it. My Dad loved jamming out to it. Badass...
Blind Guardian - Mirror Mirror
Yes!! They gotta react to some power metal
Definitely this one, just shows so much of the band
FTW
I was actually gonna refer "Punishment Divine" or "Age of False Innocence" but decided not to push my own preferences over crowd favorites for their very first Blind Guardian rapture xP
I've never heard this song by them before. This sounds awesome!
Doug Ray It's very old. Most fans, particularly US fans, are criminally unaware of Michael Shenkner, or UJR Scorps songs.
Yeah they have some great albums from the early to mid 70's. Look up 'In Trance' and 'Virgin Killer', also look for the 'Tokyo Tapes' live album. Great stuff, they have always been a good band, no matter what era!
Bro... You've been face licked by a bear?
nearly worthless Lmao it's an app where you put your face in pics
LOL what's that app called? It better be available for Android...
How about The Cult...so many great tunes from them! Fire Woman, love Removal Machine, She Sells Sanctuary...the list goes on and on!
DR NO they would love The Cult with Astbury's vocals and Duffy's guitar sound!
Never even heard of this song before and now I can't stop listening to it. Thanks guys
Black Sabbath - Children of the grave
Black sabbath -HAND OF DOOM !!! PLEASE !!!!!
Viktor Hermansson They need to return to Sabbath!! This would be a good one!
no....into the void
George would love the drumming in this song...
There are two eras of Scorpions . Before 1979 and after . Before 1979 the lead guitarist of Scorpions was Ulrich Roth, one of the most talented quitar player ever . Scorpions was back then a hard rock band with a lot of Progressive influences ( that's where your comment about Rush is on target ) . But with the 1979 album Lovedrive they made a commercial turn in their carreer . Ulrich Roth was no longer with them . This made them famous globally but they've lost a large amount of their quality . Scorpions are German by the way if you don't know it and one of the few Non USA , non British bands that made it so succesfully . Cheers guys , great job again . P.S Sorry if my English are full of mistakes , i'm Greek and not Scottish as it looks by my nickname.
There's also 1971 Scorpions which released Lonesome Crow, which was the only album that Michael Schenker played lead on fully at least. Scorpions went on tour with UFO as the opening act and Schenker was offered the lead guitarist position - and he bolted for UFO. Some Michael Schenker songs made it on Fly to the Rainbow but you could hear on some songs they were going off in some different directions. Still good though.
The era after 1979 isn't bad, because more people started listening to them doesn't automatically means that they changed their style to match people taste of music or to have a commercial success. Everyone changes through time especially if you change band members and play for such a long time, if they always had the same style it would have been boring keep listening to similar in style songs. That's my opinion.
Lonesome Crow is a really great album, but it's almost more jazz rock. I spin that one from time time still.
Just imagine if Scorpions are from USA/UK, their popularity will be 10 times they are now.
Great comment
Scorpions - No One Like You
My all-time favorite Scorpions song!!!!
Anyone else like the video right at the beginning? These guys are the best music reactors by far.
Juan Gonzalez this band rocks and they do as well.
These guys and YouYouYou!!! are the only music reactors I follow. And if you're not familiar with YouYouYou!!!, watch his Painkiller video.
racewiththefalcons1 YouYouYou is awesome. Alex Hefner is killing it too, his channel has grown like crazy over the last couple of months. I freaking love reaction channels haha.
Facts!
The sails of Charon is written by The Scorpions, but famously by Ulrich Jon Roth. What you guys are listening to is something very special and one of the catchiest riffs and rhythms, and lead guitar work of all time. Really glad for you guys to see this, because every time I listen to the song I have to be careful, because the repeat button gets put on and 3 days later the only song that I have heard has been the same one
Trust me you are not the only with the same problem. Once you hear Sails of Charon you feel obliged to put it again and again.
Coolest opening riff I've ever heard and the hooks that follow are powerful
I am not a scorpions fan but this song took me by surprise. you guys turned me on to some gems that even as an avid music listener (from rap to classical music to metal) I missed. great job guys keep up the good work :)
Scorpions is the band that wrote “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” Great, underrated German heavy rock/metal band. The Uli Jon Roth era has some amazing material (particularly In Trance, Virgin Killer, Taken By Force & the Live album Tokyo Tapes; Fly to the Rainbow is decent), and Lonesome Crow is an awesome debut album (that album has Rudolf’s brother, guitar virtuoso Michael Schenker, on guitar for that album). Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love at First Sting (the record that has “Rock You Like a Hurricane”), and Crazy World are also classics too. 4.5 of those 5 albums have Matthias Jabs on guitar (Half of Lovedrive has Michael Schenker and the other half is Matthias).
Love that you guys reacted to this gem; epic song.
I would love for you guys to react to: Megadeth - Hangar 18
Uli Roth, nobody played like him in the mid 70s. Micheal Schenker was great but not near this level yet.
do you mean Rudolf Schenker? Michael is his younger brother, who became famous in UFO, and later the Michael Schenker Group. Uli didn't join the Scorpions until Michael had left to join UFORudolf Schenker is in Scorpions, and was a founding member...
no, I meant Micheal and he is one of my guitar idols.
Rudolph is great rhythm player.
Rudolph plays rhythm, Michael was lead guitarist for Scorpions at periods during the 70s and again briefly in the 80s.
Rudolph is maybe the greatest rhythm guitarist in the whole rock universe...
i cant believe you've plaed thaaaaaat! this is one of the most underrated and coolest metal song. almost nobodt know this song and this amazingly period of scorpions art. it influenced a whole generation and nobody notice. congrats, man. you re taking it serious. (i call it proto-metal and love because of the funk influence)
This song is from their 1977 album Taken by Force. It was their last one with guitarist Uli Jon Roth, who was a major factor in what they sounded like in the '70s. Their first album, steeped in Krautrock, notwithstanding, this is a good example of the hard rock sound of their early period. After Roth's departure, they went through a style shift that culminated in the hair metal style of 1984's Love at First Sting (the one with "Rock You Like a Hurricane" on it).
If you want more of the early sound, I personally think their album Fly to the Rainbow is their best, and the title track "Fly to the Rainbow" is probably a good showcase; it's even got some of the Krautrock and psychedelia left over from the first album.
If you want more of the hair metal sound, the obvious choice is "No One Like You" from 1982's Blackout. The ballad "Winds of Change" is also good, and is one of the few '80s power ballads that really holds up after so much time.
Oh, Lost in Vegas, there's No One Like You!
Brad Strauss scorpions pun...I dig
I see what you did there...
Yup
omgosh yes!!! Scorpions are hard rock/heavy metal they are freaking awesome! they've been arounf for over 50 years!
I was so glad to see this video from ya'all. I'm 54 and this is one of my fav early Scorps tunes that I heard from my older bro's records back in the 70s.
Uli is a guitar wizard, was way ahead of his time!About 10 years ahead!
Queensryche - Eyes of a Stranger
I think they should do all of mind crime for context
Its a crying shame they havent gotten to Queensryche. Id like them to do Operation: Mindcrime in full but thats not gonna happen. So yeah Eyes of a Stranger, maybe Enforce or The Whisper.
The Mission is my favorite song on Mindcrime. The Lady Wore Black from Live Evolution. The slower tempo and Geoff drawing out the notes in that song gave it a truly timeless feel. As much as I love the original version, it seems somewhat dated as well.
I like the whole thing but my stand out is I Don't Believe In Love
Queensryche - Revolution Calling
Deep Purple - Highway Star
SURPRISED!!! You did this my facorite song by them. Live this vid . Thanks
The Zoo by Scorpions, for sure. Great bass, great rock guitar, great harmonies
The Sails Of Charon: MY FAVORITE EVER SCORPIONS TRACK. THANK YOU! I am posting before watching the video. I Hope You Like It.
Still loving you- scorpions!!
F yeah!
Uli, was one of the most amazing guitarists ever
Thanks for playing this one!!! Some obscure Scorps!!! You two are rapidly becoming heroes amongst the metal/rock community!
I've noticed several other reaction channels, that seem to be copying your reaction list.....But fall quite short when it come to actually analyzing the music, It seems they're more interested in being seen on youtube.... where you guy's have an actual Love of Music. Great work! you're definitely the best reaction channel by FAR.!
The Sails Of Charon is a song from last Scorpions classic album (Taken By Force) recorded with great guitar player Uli Jon Roth (he's a "The Sails Of Charon's" composer). Guys, check out songs from two another albums with U.J.R - "In Trance" and "Virgin Killer". You won't regret. After U.J.R left the band they became more soft and commercial but with Roth also had recorded great ballads - "In Trance", "Yellow Raven" or "We'll Burn The Sky".
Another request for Polish prog metal band Riverside : ) Worth listening.
Yes, fly to the rainbow was a great album too.
Straight outta Germany.Uli Jon Roth blazing guitar
LOL...!
The song was written by Uli Jon Roth and it was influenced by a classic concerto piece. One the best and underrated guitars players.
Total surprise. I love this song and “The Zoo”. Definitely one of their best.
The Sword - Cloak of Feathers
Anesthetize - Porcupine Tree Live in Tilburg is an amazing Live song. 17 minutes of insane talent!!
“Still Lovin’ You” is an iconic hair ballad that definitely deserves review.
I don't think commercial rock radio played this song ever. I had to hear this for the first time by Lost in Vegas. Incredible. You dudes are providing an essential service to rock history and pop culture.
After Ritchie Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth is my favorite guitarist, and the intro solo is one of the greatest leads ever cut to tape! The intro riff is a Niccolo Paganini-inspired line, and there's a lot violin-style playing in there :) This is by far my favorite Scorpions song (well, paired with We'll Burn The Sky). The only problem is that they don't have anything that even comes close to this kind of feel/sound. As far as I know, they never played it live (it was Uli Jon Roth's song and he left the band after the tour for Taken By Force), also it's a staple at Uli's performances.
They played it at the 40th anniversary show a couple years ago. Uli and Michael (fortunately it happened between bouts of sibling rivalry) came out to play some stuff too and this was one of the songs.
Black Sabbath - Into The Void
Scorpions are one of the best bands ever! They're totally different from 70s to 80s. But both eras are amazing. I prefer 70s and Uli Jon Roth on guitar.
@Jack Smith no question!! Unbreakable is phenomenal too!! They're one of my favorite bands. Just giving a suggestion to guys getting into Scorpions. Start with the cream of the crop!
I have listened to the Scorpions since the early 80s, and I stumbled onto this last year...I have no friggin clue how I missed this, but it has to be the greatest song ever from this German Juggernaut!!!
Uli Jon Roth is one of my favorite guitarists, and I think his main solo here is one of the most overlooked guitar solos ever.
Scorpions - In Trance
Just discovered this song recently...blown away by the playing
You guys are terrific! Love your enthusiasm for music!!!
Much love always Brothers. If you remember me at all (ok if you don't) you know I love all kind of music and come from that life.. Scorpions are very broad, have several different tempos. They have whole albums of ballads, still loving you, send me an Angel, more upbeat, Rock you like a hurricane, Black Out and so on. Songs with history, wind of change. One of the best bands live I've ever seen, great guitar tandem, great vocalist , bassist and drummer. Listen to their catalog, you won't be disappointed. Best to you and the families.
If we remember you? C'mon bro. Stop it. You have been supporting us for a long time my man. We appreciate you sir!
Wind of Change, The Zoo
Nick , good choices from the band.
Thanks man, Still Loving You is another good one.
Whoa!! Can’t believe you guys did this one. Scorpions are VERY underrated, especially their 70s catalog. This track is from the most experimental album in their discography in my opinion. It is quite different from the rest of their work, and the last to feature famed guitarist Uli Jon Roth. After this album they became more like an Arena Hard Rock band, and a kick ass one at that.
Im seeing Scorpions at the end of August. Glad to see you guys enjoying them too!
Thanks for a great video 🤘
The Animals - House of the rising sun
There is a live version somewhere on youtube, with Uli Jon Roth and it's by far the best version I've heard of this. Dude does nothing but murders with his amazing voice!
Fan from Belgium, fricking like your videos and your free of mind... You are Awesome
( Body Count - Black Hoodie, you will love it )
Can’t believe you all are playing some of this stuff or that people actually know these songs, I thought I was the only one lol. Great job awesome videos
Queen - Innuendo
HELL YES
Megadeth - hangar 18
Been waiting for them to do HANGAR forever. How are not doing waaaay more megadeth??????
Steve Brown hangar 18, dystopia, never walk alone.. Sweating bullets, they are just missing a lot of great songs that they would enjoy so much...
fungifago i think it's the studio version is better, the videos are good only after united abominations era, before that they cut too much the songs..
Television - marquee moon
UFO - rock bottom, lights out (strangers in the night live album)
Judas Priest - beyond the realms of death
Santana - Taboo
AC/DC - whole lotta rosie
Gary Moore - parisienne walkways(out in the fields album)
...
These are my favorite songs. You may like it.
UFO. Love To Love U
Scorpions have had such a long and varied career as a band. Their often thought of as an 80s band because most of their well know hits were glam anthems and powdr ballads from the 80s, but they actually began in 1965. Their second guitarist Uli Jon Roth, featured on this track, is widely considered within the guitar community to be a master and pioneer of neoclassical alongside Randy Roads and Richie Blackmoore. The first 15 years or so of their career featured songs with a lot of psychedelic and progressive influences. Uli Jon Roth specifically had a lot of influence on later "shred" guitar players, and thanks to him and singer Klaus Meine's darker lyrical content during the 70s, this era of Scorpions are often cited as being proto-metal. They definitely helped lay the groundwork for what a lot of European metal would sound like in the future. By 79 they would find a lot of commercial success and with the departure of Roth, they adopted a more glam style of hard rock, which defined the band for decades to come. Uli remains an icon in heavy metal circles. To make a comparison, just as Rakin is often referred to as your favorite rapper's favortie rapper, Uli is known as your favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist.
Great friggin choice! Love me some Scorpions!
You guys are what people of this generation should be. Intelligent, unbiased and open to all genres. An absolute inspiration, keep it up!
Zorn07 wholeheartedly agree!
Man you guys are great! Y'all crack me up. Best reaction channel for sure.
Brilliant classic rock band from Germany. "Winds Of Change" and "Still Loving You" are must hear songs from The Scorpions. Two incredible ballads. Their best songs by far along with Rock You Like A Hurricane.
White Zombie - Thunder Kiss 65
Dragula!
Some A Perfect Circle! Judith or 3 libras! Common guys!
This is WAY before "Rock You Like A Hurricane." This is the early stuff, with Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar. After he left, then they went more pop. Roth was hugely influenced by Jimi Hendrix. When I saw him live in Portland recently, he did like three Hendrix covers, and sang them himself. But Sails of Charon rocked the house.
Loving you Sunday morning from the album Lovedrive. Amazing.
Faith no more - zombie eaters!
Love, love you guys!!!! PLEASE!! For the love of god.....give us fans some CLUTCH!!!!
Judas Priest - Hell Patrol
Dream Theater - Panic Attack
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Megadeth - My Last Words
I promise both of these songs will blow you two away
Ozzy - Diary of a Madman
Enjoy your reactions!
Yes
RAMMSTEIN - Sonne
40 years later and fresh as shit. Love this track. The Scorpions are badass.
Wow! This was definitely dug up from the archives! I'm a Scorps fan and I've never heard this song! This is quite common among classic rock bands however..it often takes 3-4 albums before people begin to take notice. Often after they've released a single like 'Rock You Like A Hurricane'. Then people begin to go back to check out earlier LP's and 9 x's out of 10...their lesser known LP's rock harder than the more mainstream albeit "commercial" LP's. Animal Magnetism was released in 1980 and is one of my all time favs. Great band. Great reaction guys! Keep it real!👍
Wow! I heard a lot of Scorpions' tunes, but this one that I never heard of...….
That's what I thought....Uli was the guitarist who was replaced by Mathias Jab, I think
Video albums: 12
Live albums: 6
Compilation albums: 28
Studio albums: 18
Cover albums: 2...
Yeah, I hadn't heared this one either :-)
Robert, This song came from 1977's Taken By Force. Lineup was different from 80's well known lineup. Uli Jon Roth was the main lead guitarist. He left the band for solo career. Mathias Jab replaced him.
Nice! Tool- The Pot please guys! We can't wait more!
Uli is still in a league by himself today. Just nobody quite like him ever. Thanks Man. Y'all Rock man🤘
Never heard this before. Thanks guys. Wouldn’t have given it a chance otherwise.
Check out Rainbow’s ‘Gates of Babylon’ ! Similar era and style but much more diverse and interesting
Love the Scorps. Triumph Fight The Good Fight or Magic Power.
tlopes Triumph is an awesome suggestion! I think my favorite is "Follow Your Heart."
Classic rock guys.still loving you is another good one.
GREAT CHOICE GUYS!!! SCORPIONS are easily of of, if not, my all time favorite band. you mentioned Rock You Like a Hurricane, probably their best known song along with Winds Of Change. The band had taken a shift in style during the 80s with changes in guitarists. sails of charon featured Uli JohnRoth, one of the most well regarded rock guitarists ever. Try the Zoo or Blackout next time around!!!
Whitesnake Still of the Night please
This song is the shit, I will always crank this in my car
Great song but overplayed. Try Slow n’ Easy by Whitesnake!
Scorpions - Yellow Raven
Alien Nation and Winds Of Change are great tracks too.
word. I don't go to many shows because they just don't live up. only worth it to see truly innovative and interesting live performers.
Ryan, George. This came out in the 70s, and their sound had changed drastically by the time of 'hurricane ', which came out in the mid 80s. Thank you for exploring diverse sounds!
Scorpiooooooooons
Wow! Very obscure but amazingly groovy song. Great call and great reaction.
I just posted this suggestion on twitter....GLAD I FOUND IT! This is one of the sickest guitar solos...evar!
There are so many great Scorpions songs to hear.
