Hey, the 2022 GTS is the bourbon I was drinking when I first tried a honey crisp apple with a bourbon. If you think it’s good now. Wait till you try the apple with it. It takes a little bite away from the bourbon and then your palette opens up and you can taste all the notes. Please do a video where you try this. I’m telling you, it’s mind blowing!
That’s very interesting! Might have to try this.
Thank you for another great video. I learn so much about bourbons from both of you.
Thank you Harry!!!!!! I get to live vicariously through these two gentlemen.
I live in the DC burbs of Maryland. BTAC is virtually impossible to find at stores or restaurants around here. When you can find, usually Stagg, it's around $65-70+ a pour at a restaurant. Over the weekend, I was in Effingham, IL. I went to a restaurant with all the Pappy editions and all the BTACs. It was wild! The WLW and Stagg were $24 a pour. I preferred the WLW over the Stagg. It was outstanding! I've had a couple versions of Pappy in the past, and they didn't impress, especially for the price. Again, the WLW the other night was amazing. I may need to go back to Effingham and scour liquor stores.
Not a bad price for a pour!
The entire Stagg line is very likely the best line for BT, as evidenced by the fact that I've literally never seen a bottle of Stagg of any flavor in my area. Anecdotal yes, but that's my experience.
I used to work at a liquor store in northern Kentucky. Stagg and Handy would come through the most followed by weller. But they make like 10x as much of those three as they do sazerac 18 or Eagle rare 17. Weller and Eagle rare 17 are my favorites.
This one bottle I'd love to find, without the steep upcharging. Even living within a short drive to the distillery, I can only ever get their standard production for Taylor, Weller, Blanton's, Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, and Sazerac Rye. This is the last bottle I really want from them. Edit: Well, this and Stagg Jr., which is now just Stagg cause it's the 21st release
Nice video! Hopefully I’ll be able to pick one up at some point. Never seen one before in person.
Very nice! 👍🏻 Hoping to acquire one some day!
Another great video. Appreciate what you do.
Living vicariously through y’all’s experiences!
Thanks Phil for all you do!
In Kentucky, you would need to be in a metro to see the whole collection. I have only seen a Sazerac in the glass case where I live. It was going for $1K. From what I heard, the last year Stagg just wasn't in the taste profile. I don't think this was last years distillate aged an additional year. I'm going from memory on this. BTW, check the cap to see if there is an RFID chip in the foil.
I live in Woodford county ky, home of Woodford reserve and I’m a 20 minute drive from buffalo trace and a few others, picked up a seller special reserve at the distillery gift shop today for $30 cheapest online I found was $79.99. Just blows my mind the markup
Love the channel you guys have opened my eyes to a ton of new bourbons and have managed to get me to try rye
I got that same Weller Green Label at the distillery...gonna crack it soon!
Great video buddies!
I am a little jealous you snagged this one Trent!
Cheers 🥃
Greatly review as always guys I saw a bottle of this at a local store in Rhode Island they were asking $1200 way out of line in my opinion
I subscribe to several bourbon channels and you guys have become my absolute favorite. I was very lucky to procure a bottle of George T. Stagg several years ago at NC standard retail pricing. I just checked and noticed it does not have a year statement on it, but I think it is a 2017. I have delayed opening it yet, because I'll likely never see another bottle in my area. But I've realized good bourbon is best enjoyed with family and close friends. I hope to enjoy this very soon with my son and a few close friends. Keep up the great reviews!
I too live in NC, and I've never seen this at any ABC. Whereabout in the state are you?
@@willetr3744 Western NC a little west of Asheville.
I hope you enjoy it soon! You won’t regret it.
Stumbled on ya'lls channel and love it. I just love BT and got a chance to try some Handy a few days ago. There were only 2 bottles allocated to South Georgia. Have to say, it's good but no way I'd pay over MSRP for it.
nothing wrong with a Handy.
Great review guys!!! I have the 2022 GTS and have not cracked it yet but good hearing your review. Plus once I heard Minnick talk about it. Made me even more excited. #CHEERS 🥃🥃
Congrats Enoch! Happy for you!
Just bought this bottle, thx for the review. Have you guys ever let a pour sit for a period of time on one of these higher proof products to see if the heat comes down a bit? Maybe 5 min, 15 min, 30 min and 60 min? Just an idea.........
Really glad I came across your channel, not only are you guys creating some incredible content (went on two DEEP dives) but I’m more happy and proud you are from NWI. thanks for the education and guidance.
If you're new to the channel and like the content I really recommend becoming a Patreon member. The discord alone is worth the price and you get access to their barrel picks. Come join us.
Appreciate you!
Love the reviews, keep it up fellas
I'm where Trent was new to bourbon. Hard for me to pay that much for a bottle. Great to learn from you guys 🥃 Cheers🇺🇲
Thanks for sharing, I am New to Bourbon and I appreciate your ability to explain things easily for Big Dumb Animals like me.
Morning folks! Make it a good day! Super jealous of that bottle!
Can you do a video on whiskey storage, how long does it last unopened, opened, in the light, dark, does it go bad, etc? Would be a good one.
Check out our recent most asked questions video.
I was on a tour last year at Buffalo Trace a few weeks after they announced that they would not release a Stagg for 2021. I asked the guide what they would do with it? He was very evasive about it but said it would be used in some way and not poured out. Same mash bill as Benchmark so maybe blended into some of those offerings.
Thanks for the info!
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Back at number 1!!!!
Nice!
@@saltylettuce7541 SALTY!!!!
I knew you could do it!
Excellent show guys.
Btw, I had same experience with Stagg Jr, high proof, surprising not that much burn!
Can you guys look at Blackend Whisky?
Hands down the BEST I've ever tasted. So incredibly delicious
You guys are awesome. My favorite bourbon youtubers by far. Keep it up, please!
👍🏻
Great video! I've gotten lucky and have been able to get 2 bottles of GTS. They are very difficult to come by in Utah.
Congrats!
I don't understand the people who buy these bottles and never open them. It makes no sense if you really love bourbon. I open EVERY bottle I purchase.
Agreed!
I’ve seen Sazerac in Alaska got two bottles last week. And Montana has boxes upon boxes of it. So good. Eagle rare though. It’s like it’s name rare.
Looks and sounds like a delicious pour 😮😊
Hoping that you follow up in a month or two with another review of the 2022 GTS. It is on my list of whiskies that I would like to have. Having trouble deciding on what I would pay.
KURT - TRENTON!!! This was great!!! (Luscious) Have you ever started an infinity bottle before?? I haven't yet, but I bet yours would be awesome!!! CHEERS!!!
We have yes! I put the left over bourbon from our shows into the infinity bottle.
BTAC doesn't exist in OKC. Glad to see it's out there somewhere!
My go to liquor store sold six weeks ago what a bummer. I really wasn’t aware of how well I was treated. They would call me several times a year and ask do you want this. Well yes I do!!
Kurt, love the channel!!! Question for you guys, what do you drink when not on camera? What I mean is, 120+ proof stuff is great but don't think I can drink all night. So do you drink a few different bottles or stick with one per evening?
If I partake I never stick with just one. If I do have high proof it’s just one pour of that lol.
Sounds amazing! What are you guys going to pour off camera to celebrate Christmas and the new year??
Good question! I don’t usually think ahead when it comes to special occasions. Probably the Wild Turkey 2002 Trent got for me.
Regarding if this years release is what last years release would have been, I'm not so sure. The 2020 is listed at 15 years 4 months. This year's is 15 years and 5 months. I'm sure some of last years barrels are in this years release, but it's not sounding like it's a straight hold over from last year.
And I agree, I would not pay $1,000 for GTS. That way too much for any bourbon (personal opinion), plus it's also not my profile. I would love to get some cherry notes in these; something to give it more than just being rich, dense, and dark.
Personal taste is def a driving factor here. Great point! If dark and rich does not rank high on your list than pass. Thanks Kevin!
Wow, that's some HOT stuff. I have a long way to go to even dream of diving into something that high proof. Purchased a bottle of Weller Special Reserve yesterday and at 90 proof, still a bit hot for my palate as a life-long exclusively beer consumer. Guys, appreciate your honesty and your expertise! As always, a very entertaining and informative show. Be well!
Agreed, I couldn’t believe how much my palate adapted within a year. Old Forester 1920 and Elijah Craig BP would way too hot for me in the beginning and now really enjoy them.
Thanks for the encouragement guys!
You will get there but for now enjoy what you like!
Congrats on the btac find. I always wonder if the juice is special, or the proof is special on the high proof stuff. How would the btac taste next to a Taylor if the proofs were matched?
The stagg is a fair amount of years older so it would have more oak and depth but otherwise pretty similar
Stagg is def a step above but not demeaning the Taylor in any way.
got the 2023 GTS for $300. i was over the moon...
plays well with RR13 & 4R LE 135.
my fav is whatever is in my glass.
all are fantastic.
Peep that Elmer T Lee in the background. Can y’all do a review on that?
Fantastic video gentlemen.
Looks like a good ol fashion bourbon 😉
Over 72k subscribers now! Holy cow. Congrats gents. That Stagg has some heat on it!
Thank you!
Hey! Sorry if this is something that you might have answered in the past, but I'm curious how you know all these bottles came to these stores? Do you happen to have some sort of connection with distributors or work somewhere that allows you more access to this information? I enjoy all the content and look forward to more in the future! once again, just genuinely curious, not trying to seem like I'm coming into the comments as a salty viewer who's angry they cant get these bottles 😄
Edit: I just made it to the end of the video where you talk about Harry and his store some, so it looks like I've answered my own question other than where do I find my own Harry haha
Yup, store owner relationships
Visions of sugarplums danced in their heads!! Love it.
Maybe that was it lol
ive been on the hunt for this for 2 weeks now! After this I want it even more haha
Go get it dude!
The 2022 release was distilled Spring of 2007, couldn't have been 2021 release aged another year. I would have thought maybe if any casks were good, the 2021 might have gone into stagg store picks for special stores, but I didn't hear anything like that. So as far as we know, the 2021 casks either were dumped out or still aging.
That sounds outstanding! I would never pay (much) over msrp so may never try it. $125 for me is an outrageous overpay. So happy for those who can.
Keeping your own budget for bourbon purchases is always recommended.
Overpay? 100 is msrp
HOW IN THE HECK!!! 100 BUCKS FOR THAT THATS AMAZING!
I like chocolate covered cherries this time of year with a nice pour.
I hope you're ready for a case of Monday hater-ade to be dropped on you. I'm so jealous. I live in a controlled county and it's a 45 min drive to even try to build relationships with store owners who could hook me up. What a great bottle and thanks for sharing on your channel. Hope to someday get one myself.
Hope you do to!
Once again as a newbie , what is the secondary price you always mention ? Is it like wholesale and retail pricing ? Thx
Np good question. Secondary is when an individual buys a bottle at cost from a store etc and than turns around and tries to elevate the price exponentially.
Some online stores do the same thing.
All about greed.
Always wanted to try the George T. Stagg but the last bottle I saw was $1,500. Not that desperate. The Stagg Jr. is not bad.
Nope.
Unfortunately I have never ever found anything super sought after for MSRP here in NY. I see BTAC all the time for 2000$, and considering about 300$ is my absolute top end I’ll keep showing patience but my hopes are not high. Stores that do MSRP just seem to not be a thing around here. That said I have driven to some small liquor stores and found some really old bottling of some great whiskey.
Unfortunately that’s greed from the store owners and them knowing someone will buy it eventually.
You guys seem to have a fantastic father/son relationship. I know there are ups and downs as a father, but as a father of two young sons (3&7), what advice would you give? What are you most proud of as a father?
We are a blended family. What I am most proud of is that we all treat each other as family. The kids refer to each other as brother and sister and my wife and I treats all our kids as our own.
I have made plenty of mistakes and that will happen trust me but we always based out parenting around a few things.
Your family is most important, period.
Respect. We will always speak to each other with respect.
No lies. Absolutely no lies. Even when your disappointed with your child give them credit for telling the truth. Same goes for the parent when you are wrong. I have had to apologize a number of times for losing my temper etc.
Man to man, grass is VERY rarely greener on the other side. Love them all unconditionally.
I do not consider myself a parenting guru that’s for sure but just from this comment I can tell you are a good father, because you care.
Just curious If you didn’t have Harry would you be able to get any of these highly allocated burbons especially at msrp?
Probably about 75% comes from Harry but we do have a couple other stores in our area with good prices and some allocated.
SLB (Stings Like Bee) back at it!
😂
Great-another bottle of unobtainium to add to my bourbon hunting quest.
You got this!
Damn you guys have had a hell of a year!
Trent’s been busy!
East Texas we have Sazerac sells for $30-40
Is that a bottle of Willett 8 year wheated on the top shelf? If so, please do a review!
Yes!
Allocation is a tricky thing. Here in Iowa ancient age is allocated...putting it in the same category as Weller 7yr, Blanton's, Eagle Rare, and so on.
I see Sazerack everywhere around me in MA/RI
And it’s runs about $30
I have a 2018 I paid $80 for through a lottery with our state ABC store. I'm afraid to open it...not sure if I ever will :(
Why have it if you are afraid to drink it 🤷🏾♂️
Break it open and enjoy my friend! Great buy!
Fun idea if you haven't done it already... kirkland whiskeys review!!!
We have, a month or so ago.
These are good for 150 or under but 100 is the right price. Ive had better bottles than the btacs i tried. Secondary for these in insane. Honestly the difference in experience between btacs and ecbp is small at most.
I would def rank this bottle above ECBP for sure but unfortunately haven’t had much experience with the rest of the lineup. Agreed on the price!
Speaking of direct sunlight, i find it interesting how many retailers put these bottles in window at secondary prices
Holy sh*t 138 proof! As someone recent to the burbon world, I can't imagine...120 is hot to me!
It is hot buddy so your not wrong there. Takes a while for the palate to adjust.
The good thing about being relatively new to bourbon is that the available "shelf" bourbons are all still new to "us" so hunting for ridiculously overpriced liquor isn't as important. With that being said, I have a few sought after bottles in my collection that I'm afraid to open due to my somewhat untrained palate...
You dont have to have a trained palate man. Its as simple as liking it or not.
@@LeatherDaddy97 I agree 100%
I say "untrained palate" because I have gone back to a few bottles that I originally said I didn't care much for and now really enjoy.
@@22Buckman thats just how things go sometimes. Enjoy the journey man
Lots of on the shelf great choices!
I won a lottery recently and picked King of Kentucky over 22' George T Stagg. Thoughts on that decision?
Don’t blame you one bit! Congratulations!
Never had the opportunity to taste the King but hopefully one day.
Kentucky does NOT have all of these available, and I live 45 min from Buffalo Trace. I've never seen nor been able to purchase a bottle here. Everything is released via lottery.
My local store got handy, saz 18, eagle 17, wlw, gts, pappy 10,12, and 15. For vip members raffle
Wow awesome!
I think the only way I'd buy this is if I got it for MSRP. It's a cherry and oak bomb, but it's lacking complexity compared to other high end bourbons. I'd rather have Wild Turkey Master's Keep, Four Roses Limited Edition, or Parker's Heritage, so there's no way I'd ever pay a premium for GTS. I'm also not convinced that both Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof wouldn't beat GTS in a blind tasting.
All btac releases are different but this release is a step above.
Great show as usual. I wish GTS was available out here in Northern California but alas…bumpkiss. I would like to know if you guys have tried anything from the Garrison Brothers Distillery in TX? They are full proofs mostly and what wonderful flavors and nose. If you haven’t, look them up and see if you’re able to find any your area. I come back to the “Region” a few times a year…grew up south of Dyer. I’m always looking for something new to bring back here. Love the show and the honest opinions from you guys. Keep on rolling!
Garrison brothers is a very love or hate company. I cant stand the stuff, especially for how much it costs, but glad you enjoy it.
I want to like Garrison because it has the start of some great flavors. Just can’t get past the price and a funky TX oak note.
"This needs to be a cologne"
Thankful to at least see people describe and enjoy it because I’ll probably never see it. 😂
Can you do a tasting with 4 roses? Blind tastings!!
I'd be curious to see that. Today I was invited to enter my state's lottery for a chance at Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch at $179.99 I decided to pass. Can it really be THAT much better than the $45 single barrel?
I need a Trenton to hound dog these bottles. Kurt do you rent him out? 😂 Great show as always!!!
Yes! 😂
I am in Hammond guys can’t believe your from valpo
The 80MPH Apple
It better be good @ $1,500 a bottle.
I'm a little over half way to having the store points to get '22 GTS for msrp! I cannot wait...
Don’t worry about neck pours. Just let them air out for 15 minutes
It’s a law of chemistry that once any substance is exposed to it is going to start oxidizing.
Sitting here watching this drinking a rare breed looking at my bottle of this contemplating life should I open it should I save it for a big day
So many good pours come out of BT. What do you think makes it such a better distillery than others? I understand the artisan craft of the master distiller, but what else?
Them being a better distillery is completely subjective. I wouldnt call them a better distillery, or even in the competition for best in my book. I find their whiskey consistently lacking in flavor and underwhelming compared to other distilleries, and many many people i know feel the same. Whats keeping them in the talk is them refusing to raise msrps to match the current market, and hype around their product. So in the end it just comes down to preference, but i consistently pass on their products at msrp just because i dont like it very much and i think theres shelf products that compete with or beat them.
They do have good whiskey that’s for sure but so do others. They obviously have their p’s and q’s in order.
This is the one bottle I need to obtain in order to retire from hunting lol
I don't know if it is me but I bought a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon Whiskey like in a video you did a week or so ago and all I smell is nail polish remover. I took a sip and yup... tasted like nail polish. I let sit for 15 tried a taste and then 30 and another taste...still nail polish. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone?
That’s interesting. Usually a bit of Carmel, vanilla and nice barrel notes. Do you have issues with just WT 101 or others as well?
I just scored a bottle of this for 90 bucks!!!!
Is there a way to quickly and easily confirm MSRP? How do we know if we are getting got or not?
Good question. I google it but even than that can take a while to get a true number.
How long does bourbon last I have a Elmer T Lee from 2020 and a Eagle Rare from 2021 and picked up a bottle of Blantons 2022 from my local store every year at retail?
Quite a long time if stored in a cool area away from direct sunlight.
Are you guys going to cask and cellar release this Sunday
So now that you tasted the 2022 GTS along with the 2022 Pappy 15 yr. Did you enjoy one over the other?
