So, are you running Proxmox on the G4? I've been trying to take one of my G2's and load Linux on it. Do you have a video showing to tweak the BIOS settings to load Linux. Specifically, I'm trying to load Ubuntu on a G2. Thanks. Ed
I actually have proxmox running on G1 all the way to G4. Works great and allows you to create virtual machines for Linux. Perfect for playing with different versions. I also like how you cna take a snapshot, mess with Linux, goof something up, and then just rollback to the snapshot. For proxmox you will need to enable virtualization in the BIOS. Generally under the advance settings. I was checking older videos but I must have either filmed it and not added it in or else never did it on camera. I do want to continue my "Roadmap" series at some point and show how I configure a new EliteDesk unit for just these sorts of cases. You might already have virtualization on - if you run the proxmox installer it will tell you if it is not enabled.
I hear ya - much easier to see what's going on. I've been trying to find an affordable swing arm that will support my phone so it doesn't crash down into the computer. If folks have suggestions....
Connect the HDMI cable to the monitor. Turn on the monitor and make sure it is set for HDMI input. Then turn on the computer. If the computer doesn't detect the active HDMI port it tries to use the display ports instead.
the adapter in ebay link. what is the cable for? I don't have a socket on my g4 mini mb. will that adapter still work without the cable being attached? Thx for the video
The option board provides a fast USB C interface - use it for fast connections to USB drives or even add a network adapter that connects via USB C. You would remove the existing IO board - check the back of your G4 - the existing one is just to the left of the two USB ports and the power/NIC.
I may not have posed my question clearly.. I currently have a DisplayPort card in the FLEX IO Optional slot. My question is, on the USB C card (you are replacing your VGA port..) there's a short cable (timestamp 12:04) that gets plugged into a socket on the motherboard (timestamp 12:47) My G4 (65W) motherboard DOES NOT have that white socket. What is that cable used for; Power Delivery ? Will the USB C flex i/o adapter still work without the cable being plugged in ? If it does work, 10gb data transfer only? can I use that USB C adapter to output video to a portable monitor that has a USB C video input ? The HP write ups for these FLEX IO Options cards are so confusing.. Thanks! @@handmedowntech
Much clearer :) - check to see if you have the 65W G4 (bottom of unit should say). This particular option card is only for the 35W and I suspect that the cable is for PD - I haven't had a chance to test that since I don't have a USB C adapter that delivers enough watts. Check out h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c06042607 - this shows all of the cards and also has the 3TK78AA - this USB C card does not have the cable and works with the 65W. I have not used this seller but this listing even has the picture from the PDF - www.ebay.com/itm/385667530984 - I think though as long as it does not have the connector port on the card then you should be getting the 3TK78AA so you could look for listings that come faster. This looks to be the unit from the seller I used for my 35W www.ebay.com/itm/324737838061
As a follow-up, I did purchase the 3TK78AA and installed it today. USB C charging works as well as outputting video onto my portable monitor via USB C. A word of caution.. make sure your USB C cable support data AS WELL as Video. I tested it with one of my USB C to USB C cables.. no joy.. I then use the USB C to USB C cable that came with the monitor and success.. I got USB C connected video output on the portable monitor. @@handmedowntech
Very cool. I've wanted to play with those USB monitors. Good to know that port can be used in that way. Does it work on booting or only from inside Windows?
I checked the specs for that addin board and it says: Support up to 15W out (5V, 3A) • Support up to 60W in (20V, 3A) Unfortunately I don't have a USB charger/adapter that puts out enough juice to test it
I was actually thinking how it would be interesting to see if you could get a power brick that did USB c. Make a portable EliteDesk. But to answer you. I don't have an adapter that puts out enough juice. But it seems like it should work.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you could mount your camera overhead where we can see what you are doing??

@@handmedowntech Videos ae excellent and well presented.
I just installed an HDMI port to my G4 but it doesn't have any signal. What can I do ? Or do I need to install something first for it to work ?

do you think it can power on the desktop with one cable type c from a display with 65w power usb c port?

Have you tried powering with a USB C power supply?

Bro, please adjust the item within the video frame😂😂😂
Yeah, sadly back then I didn't have a real holder for my phone so filming was not the greatest. 😕
PNY Quadro P400 V2 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
Not sure how this would work with the G4 mini?
