In my minimalist and frugal living journey, I have come to realize that it’s so easy to fill our lives with stuff and spend above our means if we are not careful and intentional with our resources 📦
Our consumer-driven culture often encourages us to accumulate more possessions and spend more money, promising that they will bring happiness and fulfillment. However, I have found that by simplifying my lifestyle and being mindful of my spending habits, I can create a more meaningful and stress-free life. Minimalism is not just about owning fewer items; it's about making deliberate choices that align with our values and long-term goals.
So here are 50 quite ordinary things I don’t buy to optimize space, save money, and prioritize self-care. These decisions help me focus on what truly matters and eliminate unnecessary clutter and financial strain from my life. Hope you get some ideas for your journey 🌿

I stopped buying different cleaning products for every different surface of my home. I use an organic all purpose cleaner for mostly everything and have a few bathroom cleaners for tougher jobs. I stopped buying candles, they accumulate clutter. Before making fun purchases I always ask myself "Will this turn into clutter 3 months from now?" Don't get me wrong I still love shopping for fun but with a minimalist approach!

Hi, I would like to recommend not buying a replacement for a thing you lost/ was damaged/ broke, immediately. Sometimes you can actually find out that you didn't need it as you thought. I broke several plates, one pot has been burnt terribly, some clothes were torn, my desk lamp got broken and I didn't replace them straight away. I wanted to check first if I used them because I had them or if I had them because I needed them. In all those situation, several years later, I can say I don't need them. It's more about simple living, being mindful & not complaining or comparing myself to others. We live in a fake world, where it's all about image & branding instead of genuine quality and purposes. Everyday, big corporations are telling us why we need to buy their expensive products. The banks makes money from selling debt. People stress themselves & traps themselves when they get into bad debt. Life is actually more enjoyable when you consume less & create more. You just have to know what's important for you and focus on yourself.

I understand your take on collections. However, as I own different types of collections. As an artist, to OWN each specialized tool it's like having an encyclopedia. I can't just have certain letters I need A to Z to complete different works of art.
You can own something and have it placed neatly, organized, and away from view. Having the security of knowing when you need to accomplish a specific effect, I have the right tool for it.
The argument of clutter VS a well maintained and organized toolbox (put away 'when not in use'). The two aren't the same, you can still own a flushed out collection of tools without it being categorized as clutter/materialism or consumerism

No, truly, your videos couldn't be more nice, and visually pleasing, with any new lenses and programs - I like them as they are on my oldish laptop, that I've bought with 1 year guarantee from a firm that shapes old-ones up - just my cup of tea!
I think you are just right about everything even if not all your items are part of my life. Simply, I don't fly at all except in a family emergency. *Slow travel* has a point, you know - even if it takes sisu, when one starts from Finland, that adds an extra day&night, both ways. From South Sweden on, it's very easy. With train to Berlin and you are in the middle of the pudding (can one say so?).
"Holidays at home" is a wonderful concept, because it teaches one to relax where one is planted. For starters perhaps every second year? I've done it for ages, and it relaxes others, too, as there is too much comparison and competition anyways. Just tell others that "I'm just staying at home, pottering about and hanging out in the hammock" and people can start to get ideas! 🙂 (We have one which can be used both in an apartment and outside, which doesn't need much storing-space either.)

I would forget to check my phone calendar because I try to limit my phone use. I also use a tablet, mainly for reading digital books or magazines on Borrowbox. The screen is better than my phone, it's portable, and I get no distractions from calls or text messages. I use my PS3 as my dvd player. I don't use subscription services. I rarely watch TV, I don't buy a TV licence which you need in the UK to watch live broadcast TV. I only pay £5 a month for 5GB monthly data on my phone which is 5G, and I am ok with that. Everything else, I agree with you. I still play mega drive, SNES, PS1 PS2 games. I have no interest in modern games. I don't go to the cinema either. Every new film is advertised everywhere as the must see movie, then a week later, another movie takes its place as the new must see! I don't want to be part of that. I love your videos x

That's excellent! I forget to check my calendar ALWAYS whether it's physical or phone haha 😄 That's why notifications for example a day before are so useful for me. By the way, have you noticed a difference between 4G and 5G in your device?

@@SunnyKindJourney hi Seve. No I haven't noticed any difference. It was the cheapest package and just happened to include 5g. My phone was already 5G compatible even though I was using a 4G SIM card. I haven't noticed a difference in my day to day usage, but, if I do an internet speed test, it seems quite high, I get 210mb per second on 5G here in the UK, and only 7.9mb per second on my home WiFi

I have a smart watch, and I'm actually going back to using a regular watch. I need one, because I don't want to pick up my phone everytime I need to know the time. I try to reduce my screen time as much as possible. But owning a smart watch caused me so much anxiety. If I saw that I didn't sleep well or didn't reach my goal steps. The numbers and the analysis don't make sense anyway. You can FEEL if you walked enough or slept well.

I agree with everything. However, I love music in the same way that you love sports so the only money that I spend in a collecion is my vynil/cds collection and music concerts. It just that I gave myself a monthly limit of how much I can spend on that 👍🙂

Wahl-clipper, haha - sounds crazy, I don't know what it is. Usually I cut my hubby's and he cuts my hair (with a pair of Fiskars kitchen scissors, except when injury might make it diffificult). BTW, Seve said about 1 dollar/euro a minute! 30 min = 30 dollars/euros... It is cheaper to fall in love and just enjoy to take care of each-other! (Joke!)

Where do you spend the most? I think if you’re not into cloths, decor or tech may be you like to splurge on travel but saying that business class, michel’in restaurant are the same as economy and $ restaurant is completely delusional. No hate just wondering!

    • @SunnyKindJourney
      @SunnyKindJourney  Před 6 dny

I definitely spend most on "needs". I don't have too much left for wants but the amount I have I either save, invest, or spend on trips a 1-2 times per year. I don't think luxury vs. economy travelling is the exact same as I mentioned in the video but if you think about seeing new places in the world in general, economy can get you very far and the 3-10x price paid for the luxury treatment is not in my opinion worth it. I'd much rather have 3 trips to different places than one luxury trip to one 😉
