- Welcome to Hobby World - A place of imagination and creativity
In this video I’m 3D printing and building my very own T-800 terminator endoskeleton in full scale. This is properly the largest 3d printing project I have ever done so I’m really excited about how it’s going to turn out.
Due to the massive size of the project I have decided to make it as several episodes. In this episode I will focus on 3d printing and assembling the model.
As I have never done a project of this size there is a lot of stuff I need to figure out as I work with the build. This is also my first real project video here on CZcams so I hope you all like it. And please don’t judge me too hard for all of the beginner’s mistakes :) I have learned a lot making this video, and I'm sure that the next one will be even better.

This is excellent! A life size Terminator is a a boyhood dream come true.
That is is, I have wanted to do this project since I was a kid :)
great job, you got me interested in trying one myself
Excellent work, fine detail, the skull could have been a little scarier, just an observation. You do good work
WOW, This is super cool
Thank you so much, really loved doing that project. Working on several awesome projects at the moment. Thank you for the comment :)
This looks impressive. I can't wait to see how you chrome this bad boy.
Thanks. You should check out episode 2 of my terminator build project. The airbrushing of the head is located around 17 min in the video. Episode 2: czcams.com/video/ofArfjekBfo/video.html&ab_channel=HobbyWorld
Personally I think this is the best part of the video, the black head just becomes really metallic, chrome like, as the layers are applied. It looks really great :)
I'm adding episode 3 in the beginning of next week, there I'm painting all of the body in chrome, and adding glowing eyes to the skull. Once again thanks for the comment, it's really motivating reciving your feedback.
Wow, the result of your work so far is amazing. Looking forward to watching the smoothing and painting stage. One tip I have found on the internet is if you want a chrome finish, it is best to paint the model black prior to adding the chrome.
Hi Jeff and thanks for the comment. I uploaded episode 2 for this project a couple of weeks ago, in that video I smoothen the head, paint it black and then airbrush it with chrome. You are absolutely right about the black paint before using chrome. It is very importaint that you use a hi-gloss (reflective) black as the base layer to get the right finish. Personally I actually think that the timelaps in the "episode 2" video where I paint the head is the best part, it just shifts from black to a metallic look as the layers is applied :)
The airbrushing of the head is located around 17 min in the video. Episode 2: czcams.com/video/ofArfjekBfo/video.html&ab_channel=HobbyWorld
Once again thanks for the comment, much appreciated :) I'm adding episode 3 in the beginning of next week, there I'm painting all of the body in chrome, and adding glowing eyes to the skull.
I am with u on that Jens. I think I might cast this in aluminum bronze? Who doesn’t want a golden t-800 at their house? Arnold, you will always be invited to see it! Thanks for this video. When I visit Denmark, I will find you so I can get a pic with u and the display! It’s going to be amazing!!! Thanks again!!!
That would be a project worthy of Arnold himself :) Really happy that you liked the video. You just let me know if you are passing by.
Amazing work
Thanks for your comment, happy that you like the build.
Great project! I'm about to make one of these myself its gonna be fun!
Thank you, it was a really exciting project and lot of fun building it :) Good luck with your own project, hope that it turns out great.
It's pretty cool
Thank you, glad you like it :)
Was there any parts that impossible to print in the Ender Pro-printers? Being to large or in other ways hard to fit on the 220x220x250mm? Or can you just split objects in to smaller parts? :) I am so impressed by this project and your skills. Can't wait to give it a go myself!
Hi and thank you so much for your comment (sorry for the late reply, been busy at work). I bought an old CR10S Pro to print some of the larger parts. So it is possible to split up the parts but it requires a lot more post processing than printing the pieces on a larger printer
Tip, use methacrylate (aka superglue) and sodium bicarbonate, together they react chemically forming a hardened crust that can be sanded and is very hard, being able to join pieces in a perfect way for what you are doing.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try that for my next project. Much appreciated :)
dude u have no idea how much u just helped me for something entirely unrelated
@@Death2PDOFiles I'm very glad it served!
The best glue for PLA is WELDON #16. It cost very little in a large tube. Set up super fast and melts the PLA parts together using a chemical action. All the glues you used are surface glues that only stick to the surfaces they do not melt the PLA parts together. I did a video on this long ago. Great looking project. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you for the comment, much appreciated, I will definitely check up on that for my next project :) I ended up PLA welding the entire model as none of the glues gave the strength I required. Unfortunatly this left an ugly assembly where the parts connected.
@@HobbyWorld_one Yes I saw that you did PLA weld the parts, to bad the Weldon 16 will chemically weld the PLA parts much faster and less clean up. The chemical PLA weld will not come apart at the joint, you can break the PLA parts before they will seperate at the glue weld point. Great Project you did and thank you for sharing with us.
@@Robothut It looks like a great product. I will see if I can find it somewhere in Denmark for my next large project, And once again thanks for the comment :)
Wow!!! this is awesome, i wanted to make that terminator allready for abbout 10 years.. now with the new technics i will also go start with this.. and all go print with Resin Printer Anycubic Photon Mono X, so i need also to cut etc the models.. but i go a step further, i will go make it going to walk and move with motors etc.. a complete difficult project will it be. need to edit the models etc for special servomotors etc.. but first need to go Cut the whole model in pieces hahah.. so i stay tuned at your Terminator!! And... It looks AWESOME!! that head in part 2 is so coool!! :)
That sounds like a truely awesome project. That could look so great, hope that you will share it. And thanks for the comment, it's so great getting a bit feedback on the project. Really proud of that head :)
You are crazy ! I love !
Thanks, really glad that you liked it, much appreciated :)
Geil!!!
Danke schön :)
Yes real good jop
Thank you :)
I'm a little late to the party here, but it'd be much easier to select all, tab to edit mode, p, then separate by loose parts. get out of edit mode then it'll be MUCH easier to select the ones you do want grouped after all, right click and join then export them. This is awesome though, I never thought to print one life size
Thank you for the great tip, could have been a time saver :D Better late than never :) Really appreciate the feedback.
I donot know if you are still active but you inspired me to print my own life sized endo. i have all the parts printed (at long last), however the model deems to be missing the inner section behind the chest and ab plate where the conduits terminate - what did you do, or can you share the stl parts i am missing?
Hi and thanks for the comment, I'm still active :) As far as I remember the model is pretty hollow behind the chest. I ended up making a small custom piece where I could attach some of the stuff that was just floating around. It ended up looking really great, but this 3d model unfortunatly had several flaws. Good luck with the project, feel free to share the result on my FB group, love to see how it turns out :)
Fed print den blev sku' da vildt fed 😀
Tak, er også ret stolt over hvordan projektet er gået ind til nu :)
@@HobbyWorld_one Det kan jeg sku' godt forstå, glæder mig til at se resten når jeg får tid :-)
*Send it to the Mars!*
It might be possible to convince Space X to do it :)
Could you share the link where we can find your model? I have a cr10-s i would skip to split each block and try to print directly from your idea.
Hi and thank you for your comment. I'm afraid that I don't have the original split files anymore. Just made them and uploaded them to the sd cards for print, had no plans of copying the project in the future. But if you are interested in printing your own terminator I would recomment the model you can find on the "gambody" webpage, it looks much better than the one I used for this project.
Nice.... 😊
I've been 3d modeling for a few years now. Still cant find a detail terminator blueprint. Only models already made and theres 2 blueprints online but, all parts are hard to see in blueprint.
Hi and thanks for the comment. I have been looking a bit at this guys models (www.cgtrader.com/batman8as) they are really good. You could also take a look at this one: www.gambody.com/3d-models/t-800-endoskeleton
hola me gustó mucho el video
Thank you, glad you liked it :)
Love you videos and inspired by these, What % infill did you use?
awsome build!!! please release your stl files my wife would love this
I'm afraid that I don't have the rights to share the files :) The original link where I found the original stl file for the model is here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2471057 When I have finished this project I'm going to make a video about what I learned during my work. I had some problems using this model so I might recommend another model.
I haven't begun to print anything yet, but I'm researching and learning until I can get a printer. For this T-800 project, and using the Ender 3 Pros, what was the nozzle size, wall thickness and layer height? I saw you had a 15% infill selected.
I used a 0.4 nozzle with a layer height of 0.2 on the ender 3 pro printers. Generally I used an infill of 10%. I used a 0.6 nozzle with a layer height of 0.4 on the CR10S Pro printer. Just shoot away if you have more questions, I'd be happy to help :)

I finally bought the 1:1 T-800 .STL from RenderHub that I wanted! (on sale :D ) - I went through all the parts files, and you should be commended for all the work you have done to build your Terminator. The download I have is grouped into 64 categories with multiple parts each. And some of them have to be sliced to fit the printer bed, as you mentioned. I see exactly why it took you WEEKS to just get the files ready. This particular model already has the parts separated and aligned to the bed, ready to print, But to avoid a lot of supports, many of the files will have to be cut up. What a huge undertaking :P I hope I have the inner strength that you have in order for me to see this through LoL
On the bright side, since I will be making molds and castings of these, there's a lot of parts that are identical from left to right sides, so I only need to print 1 of each of those. Still, what a lot of parts! :O
Hi, and sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for your comment, its much appreciated. So cool that you have started working on your own terminator, and you are absolutly right splitting and preparing all of the parts is a really time consuming part of the build. What do you plan on casting the model in, resin, metal? Best regards and thanks for following.
@@HobbyWorld_one I'll be casting in resin, with a lot of the cylinders being hollow cast and foam filled (The spine parts probably foam filled too as well as the motors). I'll also be using polished aluminum rods.
I'll be happy to finally have a Terminator, but if I can sell castings too, that would be cool. They'll be the cleanest castings ever available, and I'd sell them for less than most people do :D
Also, the Terminator 40th anniversary is coming soon, so hopefully the timing will boost any potential sales.
But first, I have to make this thing lol.
@@bluebeast440 Sounds like a great plan. Think that it's a great idea to cast the stuff hollow. Great thinking about the terminator 40th anniversary, definitly think that will increase the interest and potentionally boost sales :) Good luck with your project, I hope everything goes as planned. You are always welcome to share your progress (I'm a bit curious) :)
an impressive model you have there. I would have painted the model in sections rather than after the full build..... Painting in sections would have been easier and a lot less work.
Hi and thanks for the comment. I actually considered that, but due to the difficulties joining all of the pieces I decided to paint it after it was fully assembled. When I have finished this model I'm going to do a video about the things I would have done differently if I should do it again. Here I'll address this issue. Thank you so much for your feedback. It is much appreciated.
I was thinking the same thing. TY HB for replying. I look forward to seeing what u would have down differently.
Super work! Do you have all cut parts ? Is possible download ? :)
Hi and thanks for the comment. There are several flaws in the 3D model/files I used for this model so I can't recommend to use the same if you are going to build your own terminator. When I have finished the build I'm going to do a video about what I learned from this project, among other things I'm going to address this issue. The complete model I used for this project can be found here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2471057
Por favor subir el archivo de nuevo, sale con error y no se puede descargar, gracias
Hi and thank you for the comment. I'm afraid that I do not have the rights to share the model used in this video. The designer have removed it from Thingiverse. You can find a great model of a T-800 on "Gambody" though. Personally I would print that if I was to do this project again. Best wishes
Very ambitious project, liked and subbed so I can follow your progress.
I also made videos for a while and learned a lot, so if you ever have any questions let me know. I'm no expert, but I did figure a lot of it out...
Thanks for the like, and for the offer :) There is definitely a lot to learn when making these videos, I'm having fun doing it though and I hope that my videos will look better and better as I go along. Feedback is always welcome and appreciated. I'm going to post the third episode in the beginning of next week, I managed to do a lot of work on the model the last couple of weeks :)
Bro its to bad ass you have to put leds in his eyes bro
Thanks for the comment, way ahead of you on the LED's :) Here's a link to the finished model: czcams.com/video/J5NjzGteMhY/video.html&ab_channel=HobbyWorld I actually ended up making 6 episodes here on YT about the build as it was a really large project :)
hi. awesome!!! where can i get the stl file?
Thanks for the comment, unfortunatly the designer of the model has removed it from thingiverse so it is no longer avaliable. It is possible to find other models on cults3d and gambody though.
Dude how many rolls of filament did you use
You have the STL to share with a brother? Thingiverse no longer has the model.
Hi and thank you for the comment. Yeah I saw that the link for the original file has been removed. To be honest it had a lot of flaws and if I should make another terminator I would go for another model 🙂 Personally I have been looking at this one: www.gambody.com/3d-models/t-800-endoskeleton. I have not printed it myself, but I have good experience with other models from gambody.
You should have used abs and then acetone to weld the parts together.
Hi, and thank you for your feedback. I will consider that for my future projects. There are certainly advantages of using ABS instead of PLA.
@@HobbyWorld_one , between the ability to literally "weld" the pieces together, you can (acetone) vapor smooth the parts.( Much less sanding). Along with your resin smoothing process, should make for incredible looking parts.
what size printer was you using
For the this model I used a good old Ender 3 Pro and a CR10S Pro V2. Not the largest printers, but it worked :) Thanks for your comment
your welcome looks awesome@@HobbyWorld_one
Hey is it possible to get ur files ? :) Im to stupid for blender :D
Hi, I'm afraid that I have deleted all temp work files after I completed the project. There was a lot of files, and they wasn't sorted in any way. If I should build this model again I would make sure to sort all the 3d parts so I could find them again. So I sorry that I cant help you.
Alles cool👍 aber was mir aufgefallen ist. Das Video ist 2 Jahre alt und hab ich das richtig gesehen ? Nutzt du am PC win 7 oder XP 🙃? Grüße
Hi and thank you for your comment. I might be using a win 7 on that machine at that time. It served my purpose and was very reliable. I'm also running win XP on a couple of old machines that run my lasercutters. It's incredible reliable and non-networked :)
where can i find the model of the T-800
The artist behind the 3d model I used in this project has removed it from thingiverse so it is no longer avaliable. To be honest the model had a lot of flaws so I would recommend finding another one if you are going to print your own. It is possible to find other models on cults3d and gambody.
I Wonder if that scale is accurate 35kg of water is equal to 35L
It doesn't look like a 35L bucket to me
Gloves for glue-ups? As a 40 year old, I still like peeling the glue off my fingers.
i wanna buy the stl files. is it possible?
I'm afraid that I don't have the rights to print and sell these parts. It would be a great kit though :) The original link where I found the original stl file for the model is here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2471057
@@HobbyWorld_one you can sell the STL and description, not as a 3d print
@@Kensgo Sorry I misunderstood your request :( The original link where I found the original stl file for the model is here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2471057 I still don't know if it is legal for me to sell someone elses work, I have just split the model into lesser parts. Besides that I have learned a lot doing this project and if I should do it again I would most likly have chosen another 3D model as there has been a lot of problems with this one. When I have finished the project I'm going to make a video about what I would have done differently. I'm properly going to recommend another model if you want to do a simular project.
@@HobbyWorld_one sorry my eng is not so good.. i mean the stl files that you make not the original.. hope you understand
@@Kensgo NP, The STL I have "made" are derived from the original which I didn't create so I am pretty sure that I am not allowed to share them without permission from the original creator. Besides that I wouldn't recommend using the same model I did as there has been a lot of problems with it. When I have finished this project I'm going to make a video about what I would have done differently. I'm properly going to recommend another model if you want to do a simular project.
I can act like a Terminator
Vaper bath to smooth it but it’s very Risky
I have seen several videos about the subject and one of them concluded that a vapor bath would cause the PLA to become a bit rubbery over time. I don't know if this is correct since I have not tried it, but I thought it would be a bit risky if my grand terminator project suddenly became like a piece of gel in a couple of years :)
Please can you provide design?
*Теперь осталось отлить в алюминии.*
Try super glue and baking soda. Put super glue on one piece and the baking soda on the other then push together.
I'll try that, that should help with connecting the uneven surfaces. I ended up PLA welding the whole model, that gave the strength I required. Thanks for the comment :)
@@HobbyWorld_one People claim it's five times stronger. You should test it and see if it's true.
@@PaleRyder563 I'll give it a shot next time I'm doing a medium/large sized project, thanks for the tip :)

Actually not that bad, especially considering what a real life sized terminator cost :)
you should sell these kits
For the moment I will just settle with just finishing this model :) It has been really time consuming so far. Besides I have a lot of other great projects planned in the nearest future ;)
I wouldn't print this out until all the parts were fixed and smoothed out tbh. Very commendable that you did this and how long it must of taken.. well done

Great project! I have been building a 1:1 head and am adding mechanics for eye movements. I am also doing the model of the arm from T2. They come from here. www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/terminator-t-800-skull-bust-v2
