Adult elephants have excellent control of their prehensile trunks, so this one was quite capable of simply taking the food from the hand of the woman offering it. Yet it chose instead to twist the end of its trunk and present the flattened underside, allowing the woman to place the food there. Given the intelligent of elephants I am left wondering if it perhaps picked up on not just the woman's intent, but her hesitancy, her nervousness, and so chose to accept the food in a manner designed to be non-threatening

There are a few wild elephants on this Sri Lankan road that behave this way. They are generally NOT a threat. Unfortunately, people have spoiled them by offering food. As a result of that, they associate food with vehicles and are now DEMANDING it from every passing vehicle.

Elephants are wise and intelligent, they recognize intentions. But people mistakenly believe and think that they are beasts driven by the lust to kill. Anyway, what people don't come up with. They also created myths about gorillas. People, especially civilized people, do not feel nature, do not interact with it, do not correlate, so they have such an opinion. Their unjustified fear, misunderstanding transforms into panic hostility, exaggeration, exaggeration, reluctance and extreme distance. You have to understand nature. The biggest threat is t mothers with calves and young males with testosterone stimulated to aggression. Plus elephants kept in captivity. But people have it that if they don't understand something, they're scared, they're terrified. Just like with spiders. People have much fobies.

But, writing such as: "You don't have the intelligence edge." is incorrect. Too much bacon & eggs, perhaps?

The elephant gave me a wet kiss on my face which freaked me out. Decades alter, I would regularly ride an Asian elephant in the opening parade of a circus. I was a performer on the show, 1982-90. Elephants do not belong in circus, I eventually decided. I believe wild animals deserve to live in the wild. I respect elephants enough to know to not approach them, such as this woman did. I have seen elephants go crazy in circus, nothing you want to be be near. When in their territory, one must realize they are trespassing on wild territory, so anything wild could happen.

We have this problem a lot here in the South East of England. My village is constantly plagued by elephants pushing our cars off the road and don't get me started with the hippopotamus' leaving new roundabouts in the middle of the street.

Poor English, who murdered all their wildlife bigger than a twig 800 years ago. They think they are somehow more, not less civilised because of it

Big guy was just having a bit of fun with the passing vehicles - when you're that size, you could do a lot worse if you wanted to. Kudos to the woman (it's a wild animal after all) but treats could just encourage them.

He started warming up to her from the distance....the bus and the car passed by and he did not move, and started looking more and more to the woman, she calculated her steps, and finally he welcomed her and took the food. Very nice..she has great confidence in herself...

We, humans are literally living in their space. Over crowding and pushing the limits of the world in which we are supposed to care for. We only have one world 🌎. We must try to create a better environment for the next generation of animals and humans.

Unfortunately human animal stupidy reigns Supreme and add greed and self-serving all in the name of a $1.00 and we will continue to destroy mother earth until she has had enough and she will destroy as she has in the past in an effort to heal from the human leaches.

They are living in our space now. Survival of the fittest. We could off all of them in one day if we wanted. We're the boss, they live or die at our pleasure. Humans rule, not animals! Maybe insects, but not animals.
