  • In this video tutorial you will learn that how to fix a ripped or torn leather jacket, car seat, sofa or couch at home. No matter if its a small or large cut you can fix it at home. We used a simple leather jacket kit to fix the jacket.
    Leather repair kit:
    1. Cotton swabs: geni.us/skycottonswabs
    2. Leather cleaner: geni.us/leatherconditioner
    3. Leather/vinyl glue: geni.us/coconixvinyl
    4. High-grit sand paper:geni.us/austorsandpaper
    5. Leather compound/filler: geni.us/leathercream
    6. Tweezers: geni.us/wolfridetoolset
    7. Leather dye (Black): geni.us/fortivobalm
    8. Leather conditioner: geni.us/bickmoreskins
    Important instructions:
Step 1. Use dirt remover to clean the surrounding area. Give it a quick wipe with rubbing alcohol. You can use air buds to apply alcohol.
Step 2. Glue the tear closed with leather/vinyl glue. Take help with tweezers.
Step 3. Use a palette knife to compress the area on which glue is applied. Keep it pressed for 30 seconds.
Step 4. Rub the patch with a high-grit sandpaper (220-grit sandpaper or higher).
Step 5. Apply the leather compound/filler with the help of tweezers.
Step 6. Let it dry for 24 hours. or Using the lowest heat setting, hold the blow dryer 6 inches (15 cm) away from the leather and heat the compound for 30-60 seconds
Step 7. Once the filler is dried rub it again with the sandpaper. Use smooth, circular motions to smooth out the filler. Keep going until the compound/filler flattens out and blends into the leather around the damaged area
Step 8. Now apply the leather dye. Make sure to choose a matching color. Test the dye color on an inconspicuous area of your jacket to confirm it's a good match before you use it on the exterior. Use 1-2 coats of leather dye.
Step 9. Cream or spray-on leather conditioner formula.
Step 10. Congratulations! You have successfully restored your leather jacket.

I have a similar tear in the middle of my deer skin black leather duster. I love the coat it’s so soft but I think it’s softness that make it so hard to fix.

That was very interesting! I am wondering... how long will this repair last? Is it a permanent fix, really? I would imagine that placing a leather patch under the tear and gluing it to the tear on the inside might be a more sturdy fix? Thanks for giving me some feed back!

    • @craftideas_
      @craftideas_  Před 2 lety +12

Good question! This fix is kind of permanent. But also depends upon the use of jacket. There may be a need of polish after every 6 months or so.
That's a good suggestion too. Using a patch will also work. As some tears may having missing parts. But will need the same producer with extra attention.
