I applaud your diligence and rigorous process. I agree so much of this is highly variable and dependent on what the end goal of the modeler is. Agree that similar process for solutions would be really valuable. Love your channel - thank you!!!
Hi Cameron. Putting the setting fluid under the decal is a game changer. I know due to the nature of the whole hot/cold water thing you couldn’t do it on this video, but using a good fluid under the decal is a huge difference. I have had no/zero/nunca/nein silvering when putting a good fluid underneath first, doing a Q-Tip roll, letting it sit a while, then before drying, putting fluid over, then Q-Tip rolling again.
This has worked for me using Tamiya Mark Fit Strong, SolvaSet, Micro Set and Sol, and even Mr. Mark Setter and Softer (danger…that combo is hot on weak decals).
Hot or cold water has only made a difference for me in release time from the paper….otherwise I saw no difference.
Exactly. Hence the silvering everywhere. Next test will start over and test each brand to see what is best. Why learn how to fix when you can learn how to prevent

I clear coat w/Pledge. Let dry and apply Mark Setter to decal area, use warm water to soften decal for 1-2 min. Apply decal to Mark Setter area. Roll Q-Tip over applied decal then apply Mark Softner. The Mark Softner will wrinkle than Smooth on its own usually in couple hours, After I apply Pledge to Decaled Area.

Ive figured out Markfit will discolor my paint if I use gloss varnish (if I put it on before decals)
Weird. I have not experienced that
@@WasatchModeler Yea I use Mig or Vallejo paints. When I markfit it over a Vallejo gloss, or ive also used Citadel gloss as well, its like it eats the varnish and causes the color to become a lighter shade around and under it (where the markfit came in contact)
Also, when I use Tamiya dull coat varnish and I apply weathering enamels/pigments and I use enamel thinner it frosts the model and destroys everything Ive done. Not the same situation but just another weird effect.
