First Impressions of YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA - Better Than Bali? 🇮🇩

I arrived in Central Java full of anticipation for a new adventure in Yogyakarta (Jogja). However, as my flight had seen my arrive in the early hours, it was still too early to check in to my hotel - the 101 Style Yogyakarta Malioboro.
Undeterred, I dropped my bags at reception and headed out to find some breakfast at a spot made famous by Netflix, run by an old lady by the name of Mbah Satinem. Unfortunately however she had decided to take the day off, so there would be no Lupis for me.
As it was barely 6am I headed to my hotel to ransack the buffet breakfast before heading back out to Malioboro high street to explore and gather my first impressions of Yogyakarta.
Whilst I couldn't find Kopi Jos (Indonesian charcoal coffee) either, I did enjoy a horse ride to Sultan Palace for the Keraton dance I had heard so much about. After meeting lots of the friendly locals, and admiring the culture and tradition of the palace, I returned to my hotel to check in and provide a full tour of the facilities - including a roof top swimming pool with an unrivalled view of Mount Marapi (Indonesia's most active volcano).

My first day at Yogyakarta took an unexpected turn! Landed too early and missed Lupis as well as Kopi Joss, but snagged a surprise horse ride to the Sultan's Palace instead! Worth the detour? Let me know what you think!

Morrow porridge, in indonesia bubur sumsum. Bubur is porridge, sum sum is morrow. Thats only a name. That bubur made from rice flour and coconut milk, syrup is made from brown/ palm sugar, no morrow in that porridge

lots of Indian influence can be found in Indonesia even today. The name Indonesia means "Indian islands". picture of Lord Ganesha, one of the most popular deity in India was inscribed on the 20,000 rupiah note of Indonesia. Indian currency also called Rupiah in Hindi. Indonesian Airlines is called Garuda which is an Indian deity. lots of ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples getting unearthed in Indonesia. Bali is an Indian name. Bali has 87% Hindu population. In past whole Indonesia was Hindu but now Hindus are left in Bali only.
