I wanted to make Nixtamalized corn at home, so I could grind it to make fresh Homemade corn Masa but I needed something that would grind the corn to the right consistency. After a lot of research I decided that the Victoria Corn Mill was the machine for me.
Here I unbox it and show you how it all works.

Me encantó su paciencia para mostrar está maravilla de molino. En mi país se usan mucho aún. En ellos además del metate o molcajete. Se muelen las comidas del diario..
Saludos cordiales desde México!!
Hello, I like the Mexicans food , and the way to do #nixtamalization , and how to prepared masa
It's wonderful culture and knowledge
My respect from Algeria 🇩🇿
I’m in the USA. I occasionally use my mill to make peanut butter. It’s not super smooth but when I roast the peanuts immediately before grinding, it makes the most wonderful peanut butter. You should experiment a bit! The burr plates are a bit of a mess to clean up. Good tip there on oven drying, I’ll start doing that.
I can imagine. Peanut is mighty sticky thanks for sharing the idea. I like that you make it after roasting, if you get it just right, it'll add a richness. Thanks
I use my Grandmothers Victoria to this day. I love canning (don’t tell my cool friends) and to use the same device she did over 80 years ago is awesome. Great review!
It's one of those Kitchen Tanks that will be around longer that I will.. Thank you.
what foods do you use for canning with this mill? canning/pickling is so cool!
I bought one this year..I love it! Fresh masa makes the best tortillas. I also bought a cast iron Punjabi tawa to cook my tortillas on. Pretty much the same as comal
Thank you for the video. I love homemade masa. The taste is so much better. I loved the video.
Me too, it's unique.. Thanks
Some American men get excited collecting guns but Aussie Steve gets excited collecting unusual cooking utensils. Lol.
Nothing wrong with that Ed, I met a guy once that went all weak at the knees for a spearmint milkshake.. Takes all sorts Ha! See you next week buddy Ha!
Don’t judge Ed! Haha.
Just received my Victoria mill with Nixtamal book because of your review. Thank you for your videos!
I like how the grinder is pretty much all metal except for like two parts.Very nice.
Yes, super solid..
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you
Interesting Steve,🤔I believe my grandmother had similar thing
You Sir have a new sub from Hawaii! I just got my mill in the mail today from Amazon and went looking on CZcams. Your video is the best I seen so far! Thanks again!
Thanks and welcome..

Great video, I'm buying this based on your recommendation. thank you.
Mine came packaged very well. Got mine from Amazon as well.
Will be ordering one soon, have you tried grinding wheat flour or dry grains with it? I am planning to make masa with it mainly, i am growing Hopi blue corn and would love to make some blue tortillas
Thank you. Awesome review. I have a different mill for grinding wheat berries, etc. This one will be devoted strictly to my new hobby....making corn tortillas a chips from scratch!
That's a nice bit off kit there Steve. I'd be grinding spices in that too. 🤗 Look forwards to seeing how you get on with it. Thanks for sharing. Take care. ❤☺🐶
It would work well for bulk spices Maxi for sure.
Steve's Kitchen Brilliant. Thanks Steve. ❤☺🐶
Awesome
Steve, to get a fine grind for masa harina, did you have to run the nixtamal through twice, or was one time good enough? I have read where it take 2-3 passes before it is ground well... but that was on different models.
Just opened mine. Very nice video. thx
No problem 👍
Looks good. Did you grind any dry corn with it? I'm looking to buy one to grind corn .You can make a tea out of the ground corn, spray the soil in the garden. Will keep weed seed from germinating.
I don't have this machine but I have a hand cranked Flour mill with 2 different grinding plates one is metal and one is some kind of stone. It is very slow to make Flour so I was given an old Electric Motor and it works very well.
Yes I have a Flour mill also but it couldn't handle masa.
Hi Steve. Luv your torilla video! Im looking into buying one of these to make masa. Some of the amazon reviews say theyve had metal shavings come off the plates, just wondering if you experienced that with your grinder??
Not the one that I have linked in my Description, at least if it is being used properly?
This is tined cast iron. A stiff brass brush on the cones should remove any loose matter. Then use half a cup of popcorn to polish it further.
Can you use popcorn grains?
very nice, amazon is great , reminds me of a meat grinder mate
They have similar looks.
Thanks Steve, and greetings from Canberra. I'm thinking of getting this Victoria model too - I read its reviews on Amazon, and a lot of them complained about metal shavings in the ground food - did you encounter this problem, and if so what would you recommend to get past it? Also - where do you buy your dry corn grain? I can only find sources with livestock feed companies, and I don't have storage space for feed quantities in my little suburban home.
Thanks for your great channel.
Try not to buy the cheap Chinese nock off versions. They feel cheap, easily rust and are more prone to the black residue that you speak of. To be honest there will be occasionally a small amount from any metal grinder like this but the better the quality the less it’s an issue.
It’s hard to find grain here in oz but the feed stores you speak of are actually the best source. Find one that sells organic feed and they often will sell it by the kilo and are happy to sell you a few kilos. At least that’s what I have found. Good luck.
@@Steve-Owens you're the best. Thanks for the prompt reply.
Do you know how this mill compares to the kitchenaid KGM grain mill attachment? I’ve used the hand cranked mills, it gets super laborious, and am wondering if its worth it to invest in the attachment. Thanks!!
I have the Grain mill attachment, I reviewed it in an earlier Video.. czcams.com/video/XjcYD41B3vA/video.html Was it similar to this? It would not make masa, it's just not powerful enough
I want one of those! Kinda like like it!
Take care from Oklahoma,
Mike and Vee
Going shopping for it,!!!
Me too Mike, I had to have one, glad I do. Thanks
Steve's Kitchen I was thinking (Danger!!), I remember the Victoria name on some Depression era food equipment. I think my mom still has two. Nothing like this model. This model can grind horseradish and many more spices that are semi to completely dry.
It is ideal to completely clean the item and treat the metal parts like a cast iron skillet... Even the pretreated skillets get stripped and treated with lard, beef tallow, or Olive oil (depending on its use). Shortening can work if that's you thing. For lubing kitchen equipment, I use generic conola, corn, or better... peanut oil.
As far peanut oil.... It is the slickest oil in the kitchen. It does not like to wash off. THAT is why I use it on my tin ware, baking sheets and pans, and my iron wares AFTER I have them seasoned to my liking. Go give it a try and let me know. I hope this helps some one. Never had any stuck anything. Oh, 200-225F for a few hours and never put in dishwasher!
Take care from Oklahoma,
Mike and the woman throwing pots and pans at me. OUCH!!!!!!
Hi. I got a lower cost grinder like this from China. I just ground my first batch of masa and it is discolored in places. I believe from very fine metal shavings from the grinder. I tossed out the masa that showed signs of this. Hopefully, the grinder is done grinding itself and my next batch of masa will not have very fine metal shavings in it. Would be nice to be able to get a pumice stone grinder with a motor.
Yes those Cheaper Chinese made Mills can be a bit like that, firstly the Machine oil and then some metal abrasion but in truth even the better ones have a element of that, it'll get better with use. Good luck
@@Steve-Owens It was too much. I dried it an oven that was pre-warmed on lowest heat and that made some coating on it come off on my hands. I gave up and returned it. Whatever was on it seemed like it would never come off completely. Hopefully I can find something better so I can make my own corn tortillas.
I have the same thing!
Hey Steve, I am looking for a mill to make fresh wheat flour. I saw that this one you bought is one of the best prices. Have you tried this machine to grind wheat beans? Could you please let me know your thoughts about it? Thanks a lot!
If you want it fine for bread making, I am not sure this will do it Carol, it will make a fairly coarse flour I would guess, but I have only used it for Masa..
Steve's Kitchen Thank you Steve!
I have the same mill and it creates black dust anywhere metal touches metal. I ran several pounds of rice and beans through it before my first corn use, still the problem persisted. I am looking for another mill at the time.
The same? Or similar perhaps?
How can you get it into a paste.. fot ex. I wanna make cocoa balls from cocoa nibs
Can you advice pls
It's not something I have experience with.
Can you use a vitamix?
Knowing your limited on travel space will you keep the
grinder with you or give it to one of your kids🎈
As long as I can, I'll keep it with me Leslie, one of my boys would probably love it but I would like to keep it with me but when we get on our next Plane I suspect it's not going to be in the Luggage :(
please can you send me the link to your taco shells video when you used calcium hydroxide thanks.

We use that very same grinder to grind coffee beans
It's not possible to grind coffee to any usable finesse with this, sorry..
@@Steve-Owens it sure is, you should try.
In Cuba, where I come from, we do it all the time. We roast the coffee beans and later we either smash it in a "pilón"( that's a Spanish word)
Or we grind it the "molino".
Ya just got mine and the hopper was damaged because of the box/packing issue
Where can I buy one and how much
I got this Maschine an it got the masa gray in the beginning . How to prevent it?
Grind fine sand first, or steel wool. It will clean the oxidation
2nd viewer yay hiya Steve hope you have a wonderful Saturday.
Thanks Kelly, you too.
Isnice.. Is there a stainless steel version of it?
It would not work as well. Horses for Courses.
Steve's Kitchen
Thank you.
I bought mine from Amazon and it also got delivered is a crappy condition packaging.
Was hoping to see you do coffee as well
Hello from TN, USA!
I would like to comment on How the package arrived damaged. It happens here all the time. I think part of it is associated with the Postal Service. It seems like they have to tear into every package! I have no idea why! I get very tired of my packages being in Shambles when they arrive at my mailbox.
You are NOT alone in getting damaged goods.
I ordered Sweet Potatoes slips. The box came FedEx. It looked like it had been squeezed like an accordion! It also had holes in it that looked like someone had Stabbed it with a PITCHFORK!
Not good.. 😔
I wonder how that grinder would work with an electric motor .😜👍
Hi steve
Hi
You don't get metal in you masa? Is there anything special you do when you first get it to break it in?
Nope.. just use it.
@@Steve-Owens ok perfect! Gracias!
Has anyone out there used this for whole grains, rice and beans?
Masa is Spanish means dough.
I wish you had told us how much you paid for it. 🤔
I did..
this is a colombian brand to make arepas
Thanks.
