damn this is tragic
Mizu... 😢
The mother was lying when she said, the husband sold all the horses, every one of them. The man came back with a horse. Unless I'm mistaken, and she said took instead. I honestly think they did a good job to leave it to the imagination of who did what. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter.
“Is Mizu the Ronin or the Bride?”
“Yes.”
Lol that was literally me when I first watched
@@tink6225nah, she really is both in the story, just in different parts
She is also the child, with her childhood entirely taken from her by those surrounding her.
She did it all in heels!
She IS EVRYONE in the puppet play!
Fumble of the century goes to Mizu's ex husband
Mizu baddie husband just shove it away damnnn
Facts
Facts
I thought about it to try to figure out who betrayed her and then I realized it didn't matter. The fact that it wasn't clear meant they both were unworthy of her trust.
hmmm almost, it's not that it didn't matter who but that it wouldn't matter. Mizu cared about them both that either one doing it would be devastating.
Exactly it's sad AF. But genius writing
Yea the writing on episode 5 should be taught through out writing degrees
Her mother sold her out n her husband refused to help. Heck he only came back when he knew the battle was over, expecting her to be dead by then. But when he saw she wasn't n wasted the soldiers, he had his weapon in hand, ready to attack her till she noticed him n he got scared, dropping the dagger.
Those two were in cahoots for sure cuz how would he know that they'd be there for her if he wasn't an accomplice.
The ex husband was a different kind of disgusting to me. Deliberately doing nothing knowing that would lead to his wife’s (Mizu’s) death (or so he thought). Only to return to pretend to be on her side as if it just took him a long time to get there. It’s a tragic lesson that doing nothing is a decision in itself, on top of all of the other lessons that have been already mentioned.
To be honest most people in Mizu's past are just horrible to her, with the only exception being sword father. He is definitely the best person in her life.
And ringo the best boi
Sword Father is such a wonderful mentor and guardian for her
Honestly yeah. Ringo and Sword Father really are the only two good people in her life.
exactly, which makes her motive of killing/hating white men so dumb. She hates a white man that shes never met and literally hasnt done anything to her. (to this point to her knowledge) Whereas all of japanese society treats her like garbage and wants her dead but she doesnt want to kill or change the japanese. They shouldve made it that she saw the 4 white men kill her mom and are always sending assassins for her. Thatd make her motive more reasonable than "im gonna kill all the white men cuz im half white and its their fault im treated like trash"
@@AltClickRepeat Ringo isn't from her past.
I felt so sorry for Mizu in this episode. She was willing to let go of revenge, let go of the sword, and be the woman society always told her to be and then she gets betrayed by the 2 people (one of whom she believed to be dead FOR YEARS) she loved and wanted to care for.
Dude..did you copy my comment from the Georgia Dow video of this same episode 😂😂😂
What was the reason for you to steal this comment 😭
I felt so sorry for Mizu in this episode. She was willing to let go of revenge, let go of the sword, and be the woman society always told her to be and then she gets betrayed by 2 people (one whom she believed to be dead FOR YEARS) she loved and wanted to care for.
@AA-tz2bm really?
@@KimandKamJamain’t no way someone else stole it again 💀
This episode subtlety shows Mizus mentality. She doesn't know whether Mikio or Mama betrayed them but since the mere possibility shatters her, so both die. This is why she wants to kill all 4 white men because regardless if theyre her father they must die for the possibility that they brought in the world and caused her pain.
Nah that's oversimplifying it a bit. With "mama" and Mikio she realized that even if one of them didn't betray her trust then they would always be prone to do so in the future because neither liked who she truly was and at that moment she realized that she was burying herself and letting go of her mission for the two of them. She didn't stop them from fighting because they were no longer a part of her future so when one was taken out she took out the other to keep them both in her past.
As for the White Devil's, they represent her means to an end, her promise and that's all that matters in the end to her. They were all present that day so they all pay. We might find out one of them was the reason she survived that night next season.
I felt so bad for Mizu. To have someone you thought you could trust, especially someone as intimate as a partner, and to have them betray your vulnerability like that even though THEY were the ones who asked you to be open and honest in the first place has got to be one of the worst things to ever experience. Especially the way she did.
Fr. L husband.
I no it problably doesn't matter at the end of the day but did they confirm who ratted her out?
@@AA-tz2bmLast ep Fowler pretty much gives up the info that Mizu's mom was just her maid and sold Mizu for opium money.
I'm starting to wonder if Fowler also DID send the Thousand Claws...
What is dumb is ppl think her husband betrayed her just cuz he lost their fight. He wanted a friendly non potential lethal spar. But she wanted blades out fight, disrespected him by saying he has no backbone, and got turned on by putting a blade to his neck and kissing him while blade still on his neck. Thats why he called her a monster cuz he can see she likes killing too much
The black teeth reveal is one of those rare perfect moments in storytelling. Mizu killing an out-of-focus husband was another. Damn what a great episode.
Moral of the flashback story: "Always, always, always have a safe word!"
safe word? wht ?
What safe word
mizu would’ve rode mikio through the mf ground if he would’ve had a lil bit of act right; instead he got a knife in the eye. sucks to suck! 🤷🏾♀️
Byeeee😂
@@memento4183 i’m just saying 😭😭 she would’ve been his for LIFE
Would've been an extension to his naginata in the battlefield and the bedroom but he got his lil feelings hurt and punked up
Mizu's white to red dress will forever be one of my favourite parts of the episode
Lmao love when Sheera makes immature jokes and Roshi is just like, “yeah this is my wife”
😂☝🏾🖤
Him saying "I'm not a brute" to mizu must've meant so much to her. She lived so much of her life with people treating her like an animal that needs to be put down, and here's this guy saying/showing that he seems mizu as a human being
This is it. This is the one. One of the best episodes of tv ever made. Been waiting for y’all to react to this ep since before it was even confirmed y’all were doing this show.
Actually Mizu had more than enough money to take care of them but the mom was an opioid addict and spent it all
Crazy how "the straw that broke the camel's back" for Ringo was Mizu letting Akemi get taken. Mizu made it clear that she is out for blood, even threatened to kill him when he first bothered her.
Yes and no. He saw her as a good person with a thick shell that still always does what's right and only gets rid of "evil" people.
Until that moment where she allowed them to take Akemi and basically dooming her to her fate. Akemi was neither evil or a threat so he wasn't cool with that.
This is one of the best episodes of any animated show I have ever seen. I would put this up there with any of the best episodes of ATLA, Attack On Titan, and Legend Of Korra.
Thank you for putting respect on LoK. Not a lot of ppl do 🤙🏼
@@NamiTheAlpha FUCK YEAH! I don’t care what any haters say. Korra is the best Avatar!
@thedarkknight2221 I don't hate LoK either but Korra is NOT the best 😭
@@Xeno574 how so? 🤔.
@@thedarkknight2221agreed
This is one of the coolest episodes and yet saddest ones ive seen yet. The nagitana weapon from the weights cuz of her past story was fire, but seeing her loved ones die with thoughts of betrayal sucked. And then Akemi at the end with her blackened teeth and no choice. Pain
When the husband came back on his horse he had a look of sadness and remorse on his face *but no surprise at all that there are suddenly strange horsemen on his land* -> he already knew about them.
Which is why I think they both sold her out because mom's didn't make a single noise either. They both had things they wanted out of her capture
@@IAmHavok Selling out Mizu would've been an incredibly dumb move for the "mother":
Mizu was her ticket to the cozy, secured life as a mother-in-law, while without Mizu she has nothing, nowhere to go.
The bounty she gets won't last forever, while being the mother-in-law does.
@@mori1bund you forget she had an addiction and addiction takes precedent over all else
@@IAmHavok no, I didn't forget that!
That's why I wrote, it would be "an incredibly dumb move", and not "she didn't do it". 😁😉
As you pointed out, drug addicts often do incredibly dumb things to feed their addiction.
@@mori1bund dumb but not unheard of at all.
And so we finally understand why she's so singularly consumed by the need for revenge. If every moment of my life was marred with pain, struggle, & betrayal with no possibility to be loved...... I'd want revenge for being born too. To knowingly cause someone to be born into a life of misery, is in itself, an act of cruelty worthy of punishment. If it weren't for sword father, she might really have become an onryo. But there's still good in her to be redeemed.
Poor Mizu. She was so comfortable and happy with him too! Man :(
Fantastic way they showed it play out
11:06 The way Lupa immediately put together how Mizu's mom would've betrayed her 💀
14:26 it’s not fully the fact that he lost, but the fact that Mizo put a bare blade to his throat, and her very blood thirsty nature in this “sparring match”.
Mizu is a great example for how to write character flaws effectively, and honestly she’s the best morally grey character I’ve seen in fiction.
Yeah, pretty much, people tend to look too simplistic and too black and white on that situation.
Man thats what im saying, every time i see a reaction of this scene its always dismissed with a simple "Oh the husband's fragile male ego couldn't handle his strong, dominant wife".
Oh right because the fact that she put a naked fucking blade to his throat, when they were only supposed to spar, isn't what set him off. Its like pulling out a kitchen knife when you're play fighting with your partner. Dude was legit terrified because he thought she was gonna kill him.
@@dl8571 this is where the mixed feelings for me comes from. Mizu had good intentions but I gotta take off for the disrespect. As for what Mikio did after this, I can't let that ride either. Even if he wasn't the snitch, him leaving her to die like that is not a good look.
@@dl8571 I mean his ego 100% had something to do with it too tho. He wanted to stop as soon as he started losing lol. It was a mix of both.
@@TheAfricanGrey I'd say it was at least 50%. But yeah he wanted to stop not only because he was losing but because Mizu unsheathed her sword and took his weapon. Like I said, it's like pulling out a kitchen knife while play fighting, it's dangerous. The scene is not a simple as most people seem to think.
It doesn’t matter in the end who betrayed Mizu. Both destroyed her trust and her hope for normalcy. Even though the betrayal of her mother hurts, I’d say that Mikio might hurt more because she put down her walls around a complete stranger. Only to have him turn around and call her a monster? That has to sting even more.
Even then, she was ready to compromise n submit herself to him be the 'perfect wife' for him till he left her to die.
Mizu actually had a chance to be happy…
but that path of hate would never let her go.
7:51 this scene may have skipped everyone, but here was a little foreshadowing between Ringo cutting two fingers and Mizu cutting off Hachi's two fingers in episode 1.
Master and Apprentice...was a really nice subtle detail
MIZU'S name means water, and get sword is blue and had waves on it
Sheera is so funny and always catches on to the plot quickest 😂😂
at 2:58 it says "blue eye samurai" towards the bottom right of the screen but it's a image of caitlyn from arcane LMAOOO
There is a video (think its called Therapist reacts) where a therapist analyzes the scenes with Mikio and Mizu and she gives her evidence as to why she feels that Mikio turned her in. Its pretty darn good, imo, but i also am ok with the idea that we dont really know for sure bc both Mikio and the mom are just pos
I think her husband's reaction to their fight was mostly his ego and pride being wounded. But I do think there was a tiiiiiny part of him that recognized Mizu is a stone-cold killer and it scared him. Like a wild animal - they might be in a cage, but there's always a possibility they'll snap one day.
I personally believe this is one of the best written episodes ever. The way everything ties together and gives us a deeper understanding of the character while being badass as hell is amazing. Love this show
this episode is one of the best written episodes of all time, the framing device of the puppet show and how it relates to everything as well as a passing of time is amazing.
What's crazy is that Mikio said that his weapon was best when outnumbered in battle, and the weapon Mizu made with the weights is that same weapon and she used it to win a battle that she was outnumbered in.
I do want to correct that Mizu's husband wasn't salty as he's def a more complicated character than that. Reminder that within the japanese culture of discipline and with sparring matches itself, Mizu demonstrated her bit of sadistic bloodlust that is emphasized over again throughout the eps that come after. It does suck that her husband did what he did afterwards and there's no excuse for that.
Best episode of this show. They had me so happy for her when she was smiling and laughing. Then they pulled the rug out from under me.
this was by far my fav episode like the storytelling? the action? the emotions?? just a masterpiece
Great reaction, Yaboyroshi! Salute to Lupa for the Jet Li line from The One! "I am Yulaw."
I am so psyched to see the episode 6 reaction. :) That first shot is so epic.
"There was only darkness" shook me to the core me first time hearing it, and it still does the fifteenth time.
This episode was peak animation and storytelling
Been a big fan of you guys since 2019 and it's crazy to see how far you guys have come

this ep is really cool because you start of thinking mizu is the ronin but the whole time she’s been the bride

This was my favorite episode! SO SO amazing
one of the best episodes of the show, the whole fight agains the 100 claws was insane
God I was waiting for y'all to get to this EP. One of THE best episodes in any show I've ever seen. The story telling, the combat, the shift in characters. Soo fuckin good
My favorite episode. The story telling is great with the back and forth. Sad back story
Right on schedule. I just finished this episode.
To be fair if I I’m a friendly duel with someone and that put a real ass blade to my throat, I’d be pissed too
Legit one of the best episodes of TV I've seen
The moveset 🔥
Y’all drop this episode on valentines day .
This episode was beyond incredible
4:00 And that's why she always resorted to intimidation n aggression when she asked for questions. The first time she tried to be nice without hurting anyone, she literally got stabbed. Now, she doesn't hesitate to make a man bleed to get what she wants like the very first episode at Ringo's restaurant n the Shindo Ryu dojo
this was my favorite episode in the entire season!
Akemi literally came there to kill Mizu why she expect to be saved lmao
I’m so happy yall watched this 😂
She puts her guards down and got hurt for it. She was ready to leave everything behind for him but he turned out to be a piece of shit. She will never give someone a chance again.
After Mikio said he wanted to see all of her and then fed into her deepest insecurity by calling her a monster, giving away Kai and then riding away when she needed him the most, I was done with him.
I don't think it matters if he sold her out or not. He failed every test and had already betrayed her even if he didn't want the money.
That Yulaw quote is FOREVER!!! IYKYK lol
This episode had 3 stories going on simultaneously. Sick.
this episode is a masterpiece
I also feel as though a large point that was being made as she walked away from her husband and mother was the fact that either way the white men that made her are the cause of this. That no matter what she did, no matter how she chose to live her life, what she is would always bring it to ruin. If the bounty on her for simply existing was enough to make the two most beloved people in her life behave like that then what is even the point in living a life other than for vengeance?
Probably a perfect episode of television.
Lupa talkin facts at the end, people let their egos go too far, can't handle getting molly whopped
To be fair to the old samurai mizu didn’t know when to stop even though he asked several times to do so.
I’ve boxed for 16 years now and if someone was whooping my behind and wouldn’t stop when I say I’ve had enough I’d be feeling pissed too.
That ain't why he asked her to stop and you know it. At first he thought he would hurt her but then he started to see her as a monster bc she was good at fighting and she even enjoyed it.
But trading her for a bounty cause of that is crazy
@@kei7540 Exactly and it makes no sense.
Damn Mizu was happy for once and this happens
Mizu has one of the most heartbreaking stories I have ever seen. This world made her into a monster.
This gotta be the best episode in the season!
Mizu was highkey being disrespectful in that duel though. 👀
Best episodes of 2023 for me
Fucking masterpiece of an episode
I don't think that dude was salty about losing I think he was freaked out by her seemingly getting turned on by holding a blade to his throat.
ngl I'd be freaked out too.
He was mad that he lost. His whole thing was that he was a disgraced samurai. He thought that made him better than her in combat. His ego was bruised. It was very clearly set up.
@astrea4020 Nah def was not it, as the later eps continue to reinforce her bloodlust and revenge consuming her.
@@astrea4020 I think it's a combination of both. She (playfully) insulted his pride, made him feel weak, and scared the shit out of him with her insane skills and dangerous swordplay despite him wanting to stop sparring.
It's understandable why he would be upset, but he definitely didn't handle the situation well at all. He shouldn't have called her a monster, sold her horse, left her to die, and potentially snitched on her.
@@astrea4020 You clearly dont understand anything if thats why you think he came to dislike her.
@@Pyramanager but he was playful up until the point Mizu first disarmed him. Nothing had happened prior to that and Mizu had yet to actually hurt him.
Meikio genuinely didn’t think Mizu was capable of beating or challenging him. So pride definitely played a factor to his reaction.
TBH if I knew my partner was a capable sword fighter and I was too, a sword fight around our favorite hideaway spot would be super romantic.
Poor Mizu! This episode is f***ing fire!! And you are damned magicians, who know everything even before watching the whole episode!! Like WTF!? Anyway, you're so great, Keep it up!! :-)
So glad you are watching this series. Netflix made a W with this one. Also, very glad to see you guys might watch Pluto as well. I binged the whole series in one sitting cause the plot was so good in my opinion!
If this episode let alone this whole series doesn’t win some awards somewhere someone’s not doing their job.
Its not as simple as he was salty cause he lost, its a combination of things. Its like they've been saying the whole time, Mizus training and quest was one driven by hate, which made her a monster. Women in that time period were nothing like Mizu. They didnt train to be leathal swordsmen capable of killing their own husbands if needed. They were supposed to be caring, Submissive, and helpless. Mizu showing him that shes not only a skilled fighter, but is better than he was in that duel was shocking, scary, and a turnoff. You could see it in his face the whole time. He never looked like he was enjoying it, more-so trying to keep up.
While we saw the Passion Mizu was showing while fighting, he could see the hatred and evil that led her to training in the first place. As if it were coming off to him as an energy. Its a combination of the evil behind her sword skills, and how much it goes against their old tradition.
Yeah Mizu got real reasons for her trust issues!😢
y’all need to watch the Code Geass movie: Lelouch of the Resurrection !!!
Me and lupa both jumped back thinking the horse was gonna kick him which it did 😂
I just found out that this is a flashback instead of a what if
This episode reminds so much of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Where Bruce was ready to let go of his get back mission for a chance at happiness and then tragedy struck.
Man I swear the likeminded comedy watching you guys will always be as good as any show being viewed. "I am Yulaw!".....popped in my head literally right before Lupa said it. This episode was tragically epic. The story within the story element was flames. The sword/weights combo into a naginata was too sick! I get why Akemi might be mad but Mizu almost died multiple times in that fight and had she given up at any of those points, they would all be dead along with her. Letting Akemi get taken back may have been the last good thing Mizu did for the princess if for no other reason then the fact that at least she would live. On top of that the guy Akemi came for is now locked in a dungeon within the most guarded place in the land likely barely clinging to life. Akemi's journey was sadly over.
that red banner is blinding me
