Pop Star is the first level of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and I just have to say, this song is a BOP! The Kirby franchise is notorious for having fast-tempo OSTs, but I never thought I'd be remixing a 174BPM soundtrack!!
There's one thing about this game that stands out from the rest of the Kirby franchise: Power Combos! I always wondered why that function never got brought back in future installments of the Kirby franchise...alas, still an outstanding N64 title! Enjoy!! 💫

I've always wanted to play Kirby 64! I've listened to the music, but never got around to playing the game yet. Hopefully soon Nintendo will add it to the NSO + Expansion Pack.

This was my first and only Kirby game until forgotten lands and I love it so much. The power mixing I always had super fun with.

As though it were made with Stone+Cutter, a nicely fashioned remix presented in a number of alternating styles, of one of the best tracks in the Kirby franchise. Adeleine would surely concur, bravissimo artisanry!

I'm quite a fan of Kirby music & I enjoy expanding my catalogue to a video game of which I have yet to produce a remix for; the loop itself was relatively short, so making a full mix was rather amiable! I'm a huge advocate for the "less is more" mentality & a succinct melody gets stuck in my head easily - thank you very much for your support! 🎉

Man I always loved this tune as a kid. Kirby 64 was one of my favorite games and I absolutely loved the upbeat bangers from this soundtrack! Great remix, I love the use of the sfx to give it that NICE momentum!
Kirby 64 was my first Kirby game & for whatever reason, this specific song always stuck with me; like even when I'd run in gym class during school, this is the song that would be replaying in my head!! Haha, thanks for your support, NostalJack - I appreciate you! 🔥😎

I recently played this game again; I played it a lot when it came out years ago, but I was just a kid back then. Playing through it again as an adult, it's pretty clear that a lot of thought went into this game. Also, burn + bomb is an excellent ability combo for finding secrets, as it essentially grants Kirby unlimited jumps. Thanks for the remix; it reminds me of playing this game with my sister on lazy summer days...

No way!! I was seriously thinking of remixing THIS VERY SONG but you beat me to it haha! 😅 No worries though, one can never have enough Kirby remixes! (I actually just finished a remix from a different game and will be uploading it soon. 😀) This is one of my favorite Kirby games right next to the masterpiece known as Kirby Super Star. I had a blast playing this when I was younger. Your remix really captures that happy boppy feel that is typical of Kirby music, and puts a modern feel to it. Needless to say, I love this remix! 😃
Hahaha, you should!!! I’d love to hear your take on the Pop Star theme-it’s a fun melody! I was, at one point, planning on making a totally different kind of remix, but the song didn’t feel right without having the track at the same BPM as the original; so i’m glad I was able to keep its original feel!

Woah, so vibrant, upbeat and playful - I love this! 😄 It's the perfect remix for the early months of spring, and listening to this, it's hard not to be filled with excitement and enthusiasm! I have to say, you did a phenomenal job of maintaining the vibe and energy of the original while modernizing it and infusing it with your signature EDM goodness.
The lead instrument in that first section at 0:06 sounds very accurate to the original, and I'm impressed that you were able to recreate that sound, but with a brighter, more vibrant tone. Honestly, all of the synths here have such rich and pleasing sounds, like that unisoned lead at 0:35, and that reverbed NES'ish synth at 0:52. And I also like how you use them in different ways throughout, so they never feel like one-off details; for instance, the aforementioned synth at 0:35 is used in a lower octave later at 1:15 for a very different kind of sound, which is really cool. There's such a generous assortment of sounds, and they all complement each other so well, creating an ever-changing palette of ear candy! 🍭
As usual, the percussive elements and transitions are remarkable here. I'm particularly fond of that sort of "starfall" sound at 1:20 that leads into the more toned-down segment - it sounds so pretty! And the fact that it lines up perfectly with the "Thank you for listening!" message is no accident, I'm sure. Also, that sustaining impact sound at 1:57 is just so good, and I love that it hits on beat 2 - such a creative mix-up!
Speaking of creative touches, the SFX are wonderfully used here - there are so many genuine smile-inducing moments with Kirby's iconic voice clips, or the myriad of other charming and recognizable sound effects. And the way you had some of them respond in the "question-answer"-style composition of the main section is brilliant. It even sounds like some of them have even had the pitch altered to jell better with the instrumentals, though I may just be imagining things. In any case, fantastic work with those, as always - and mad kudos for another absolutely stellar remix, Player2! 🌟

I apologize for taking a few days to get back to this comment-I've been rather busy this week & I wanted to make sure I had enough time to give you a proper response!
The synth usage here was definitely one of my favorites. I've been using a new chiptune synth that's been helpful with recreating 8-bit style synths but keeping them stereoized so they have more of an impact in the mix! 👊
Ahh, you said my favorite phrase, *ear candy* !! That's how I describe to many people how I choose my sounds, if they compliment each other enough to not oversaturate the mix but still provide harmonic value, it's a win!
The SFX was very difficult on this one; it's more tame on a classic house-style track but when there's a combo of synths + fast drums, discovering space to implement SFX was quite the challenge; not just spacing but also volume control to make sure they don't sound out-of-place! Overall I'm glad with the outcome & this'll only improve my ability to produce music at higher tempos!

That's exciting that you've got a new 8-bit style synth to work with! It sounds like it'll be a staple instrument for future remixes. And indeed, ear candy is a favorite phrase on mine, as well - and it feels especially fitting for a Kirby remix!
Yeah, I can tell that a _lot_ of work goes into your integration of SFX, from selection, to timing, to volume control... everything, really. But kudos to you for always making it sound like an integral part of the song!
