Sony XAV-AX5500 - modern stereo receiver with a vivid 6.95" capacitive touchscreen and handy buttons for quick control this unit aims to bring new technology in your vehicle with a simple and clean interface. Great run down. The CarPlay lag is only on that menu but doesn’t seem to affect apps once opened - so for the majority of use cases you won’t notice as you would have your apps on the first page of the screen- otherwise I agree with this overview
I’m low key disappointed in the lag in the CarPlay menu. Thank you for taking your time and making this review it was helpful in my head unit decision making.

Some Videos are not playing in the CZcams application in Sony Xav ax5500. It's shows like Video is not available to play. But I can play in mobile/laptops. Could you pls explain why?
Try playing from the blue USB and make sure the video format is compatible

When I plug my thumb drive into the 2nd usb I get a message that says device is not supported. Any ideas? It works in the 1st usb but that’s where I plug my phone into.
USB port 2 is intended for audio playback only.

My Sony 5000 when reverse camera show as no video signal
But before it was working fine

I would check the camera connections, if it gets 12v when in reverse, if it gets then might be a problem with the receiver.
How about Sony radio signal reception or Radio sound quality.... Is it better compare Pioneer?
Well that depends on your car because that hooks up to your car antenna. I would say they will be the same.
I just installed this unit in my car. Super fast load up time and I don’t find the screen to be laggy. It’s obviously not going to have the response time of an iPhone
Do you know if these units get updates? Whether it’s CarPlay update or firmware update for the unit itself? Wondering if that speeds it up a bit, I wouldn’t mind a unit that isn’t super fluid in response, as long as it works great on CarPlay.

Unfortunately the part number for that adapter is not labeled anywhere. I would contact SONY and request that adapter.
@@iSimplifiedTech thanks. I'm installing it in a 4th Gen camaro I think I've read I need use an aftermarket interface to hook it with this unit. On the other hand the unit is nice for its price.

Unfortunately that is not possible with SONY units since their software is not open source.

How do you do when one of those usb ports get damaged? how do you replace them? the male connector seems to be inside the unit..
Depending on what kind of damage, if it’s at the port then maybe cut out the damaged port and replace with a generic one by splicing the wires.

Which unit has a fast boot time AND a responsive interface while using CarPlay?
Great question, from all the receivers I've tested so far, except the SONY, Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX has the fastest boot time and responsiveness of the CarPlay interface I would rate it 4 out of 5, Alpine iLX-W650 has the best responsiveness on the CarPlay interface (5 out of 5). This SONY unit has the fastest boot time of all the units on the market but sucks on the responsiveness.

Might be a compatibility issue with your smartphone, you can check the list of approved Android Auto devices. Also for the usb flash drive make sure it’s in fat32 format.

I have highend morel speakers and subwoofer for sound quality.. Presently I have pioneer singledin hu.. Want to upgrade sound quality hu touch screen .pls suggest kenwood. Pioneer Sony
Kenwood and Pioneer are very similar in terms of audio quality. If you like a clean user interface fully customizable go for Pioneer, if you like High Definition displays go for Kenwood.

You most likely already found your answer but I've been looking for a unit and I highly recommend crutchfield you can set the filters and it'll recommend what will fit in your car
Dual USB inputs! That means you don't have to detach your USB thumb drive to connect CarPlay/ Android Auto. Most companies only have one input.

@@iSimplifiedTech just got the 5600 installed in my truck. Don't see much difference between it and the 5500.
Pretty much the same except they added the hdmi, which is pretty cool, can connect anything to it and use it as a mirror display or separate display. I got it too today so I will release a review this coming weekend.
I installed my unit last month, It gets super hot after an hour of use. Have you had any problems with this ?

It features the Wireless Android Auto as well but I didn’t demonstrated in the video.

The both USB ports are on the end of hanging wires on the back, cannot see them in the video btw.

If I had to pick a SONY unit I would pick this one, if I had to pick a different brand I would go with KENWOOD DMX9707S, of course not as simple and clean user interface like SONY but more features. In the end it actually depends what your preferences are, there is no perfect unit out there yet, every each of them have ups and downs. If you looking for simple and clean and don’t really care about Wireless Connectivity stick with SONY, no one can beat their user interface simplicity.

Weblink does not work
First make sure your Sony model is the AX5500 and not AX5000 . Also you need to get the Sony Weblink app from the App Store or Play Store depending on your device and then follow the instructions on the screen.
The orange and black UI is such a turn off. No capacitive screen and an outright 80's throwback. Bring back the UI used in the XAV-712BT
