  • Sorry, couldn't find a suitable cutaway! Anyway, my next attempt at solving the JD 1050 slow hydraulics by bypassing the spin on filter. The sump filter remains as factory at this point.

My dad's '85 850 still has cold weather hydraulic issues similar to yours. We've changed the fluid a couple times, flushed the system, replaced the filter, and cleaned the screen and it still needs to warm up for five minutes or more before the loader works. We're just living with it.

excellent. I am gonna try and duplicate what you did.

What if you cut the back part the filter, clean it out and weld back the back part

Would have loved to do that. Would have been much easier but I'm not a good enough welder to make it leak-proof under pressure!

According to a local, who owned an 850 I believe, he said when he was disassembling his hydraulic lines he shit when there was another screen Infront of a pick up or feed line so where, atleast before the scv, loader valve, or even the pressure relief valve..
I know this comment is coming outta left field, it's just I know sooner or later it will be my turn, and I've always worried out 1 single screen I didn't know existing doing its job and clogs the dam flow.
If it's realistic either of us man perhaps we should check every dam spot there could be one when the hydraulic fluid is drained.
My neighbor had a collapsed hydraulic hose, he said it looked perfect, spent an entire season with messed up hydraulic and he was so mad he replaced all the lines and soon as, 100% back to normal. Hell if I remember correctly he said the line was maybe 6-7 years old.
Lastly, keep kickin ass, someone on here can't appreciate the sheer amount of work it takes then they're simply watching the wrong video/channel as the rest of us do

@@SteeveeDan have you been able to get the old whore all straightened out?
The newer tractors are definitely more refined, more comfortable with more raw HP and hydraulic power but I have friends/family who own them and truthfully they still ask how much I would take for the 1050 as they wish they could find one. They so simple, actually built to the highest quality and have excellent capability all while being built from day one to literally be rebuilt in the dam field if needed.
Yet you and I are crossing the bridge when we least expect it of age related issues (both our tractors and ourselves lol) yet a local guy hays as a side business and for his horses has a beautiful Kubota nice 75ish hp and he recently had some issues with it cost him over 3grand at the dealer (I have no idea what) when he was confident maybe 4-500 bucks.... because that's what the dealer quoted him!!!
As frustrating as it is at times, the ole 1050's are impossible to beat. The 1070 which "replaced" the 1050 is identical but has a little 4cylinder and a syncro tranny, with the smoother running 4 cyl she has a different pump producing a little more flow, but all we do to match it is boost hydraulic pressure at the relief to 2500psi
The same old timer I've spoken too is who recommended this pressure exactly as the safe long-term boost with many guys running it on the 8-1050's so 2250-2300 up to 2500psi he did it to his own 850 and to his credit he did infact sell her last year 75 loader with the JD quick attach 8 backhoe with a little over 2000 hours. He said "Hydraulics just came alive" and would highly recommend it so since I respected him an trust him I'm doing the same, as 2030 max psi factory is pathetic today, and our tractors are over built.
He also said when running bigger pto driven equipment one local farmer who owns an orchard had him turn up his fuel pump, dumping more fuel he made noticably more power and they had that 1050 untill 5000plus hours he said, but he was honest that he did that to help the guy and "Deere didn't know a thing". We do have to watch cracked heads, but according to him man so long as we keep a good clean radiator I side and out he's only saw 1, makes me believe it's owners failing maintenance rather than a bad design
There's a lot old Man Pete told me about these, they were his favorite tractor which is why he bought into the line himself he said. Coming from a man who truely did sell dam near everything and liked all good tractors so his word meant a lot to me so I honestly was simply bllsht lucky to happen to have the 1050.
Also don't forget to tie down your clutch pedal when she's parked for Abit, another tip he said why a few guys needed a clutch replaced. When tied down our clutch's will last a dam long time he said

@@johnserrano9689 Getting ready for a family reunion I'm hosting so I've only been working the tractor around the property. Hopefully after August I'll get back to finishing the joystick conversion. This is my 2nd 1050, love this model. Thanks for the comment and tips!

Did you ever get to the bottom of your starter issue? My 87 950 does the same and I was just going to replace the starter but some people say it can be wiring or grounds ext.. just curious if you fixed yours

    • @SteeveeDan

I've checked all the electrical connections and so forth, mine needs a starter or a rebuild for sure. It still works and still needs a wack every once in a while but I'll eventually end up replacing it.

@@SteeveeDan yeah I cleaned up grounds and terminals ect.. sometimes it works great othertimes it needs a whack. I figured it was the starter but got a laugh when I saw yours the same as mine. Great videos, nice to have stuff to help problem solve!
