  • Jimmy Spencer earned himself the nickname "Mr. Excitement" for always telling it like it is and being aggressive. However, he was a bit rough around the edges when he first joined the NASCAR Cup Series. With Junior Johnson and his team, Junior Johnson & Associates, in the 1994 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Spencer struggled. He made a lot of mistakes and had a sour reputation. However, with the 1994 Pepsi 400 at the Daytona International Speedway and the 1994 Diehard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, things would turn around for Jimmy Spencer.

Jimmy is the reason i got into racing. Him and my dad went to school together. During the mid 90s my dad was able to introduce me to him while he was in the Berwick area for something (i was about 5 at the time). I ended up being an Earnhardt fan because i loved the black car but i always rooted for Jimmy too! My dad has since passed away and Jimmy no longer races. I miss those days. Great video!!

Imagine how many wins that car would've got that year if Spencer wasn't driving it. That car was almost illegal a lot

Not sure about the rest of the year, but those plate cars were cheated up something fierce. Spencer was a top 10 Busch driver who somehow got a Cup ride for nearly two decades. Not much different than Mikey in that regard.

Spencer's Crew Chief, Mike Hill deserves ALL the credit for his victories. His last pit stop decisions/adjustments are what put Spencer in Victory Lane. All that BS about "Big Motors" and/or "Illegal Intakes/Carbs" is bogus.

I heard he had a cheated up car for those two flukes he won. He parlayed those two wins into like 10 more years in Nascar.

Lol Banjos front end?? I think it was the illegal manifold and carb deal on Jr's Johnsons super speedway cars.c.. Didn't Hut even win in one of those illegal super speedway cars?
Jimmy was great on tv with the crying towel.

One of best rivalries. Crashing someone doing 150 is not fun. Ruin's finish, equipment and could cause death. So, I get it..

My dad always says, "If I had the money, I'd field a car just to put Spencer in it and go wreck Denny Hamlin."
Or whoever his current least favorite driver is. 😆

Yes, any of the not so famous people in racing usually is a good video. My underdogs were sacks, shrader, kulwicki, Martin, DK Ulrich, bayne

Why would Banjo build a car with a front end that srubbed off speed. Makes no sense either

NASCAR made a better call with less tech? Yeah.. they weren't a bunch of bumbling folks then

Always liked Spencer but without 94 season and McDonald's wanting a return on Junior's money they invested
He would have never won a cup race
NASCAR did not want a Major corporation to leave
    Daytona and Talladega
In 94 was a free pass
Think about it the motor was big way over cubic inch size
