    Remember: You need Final Cut Pro 10.6.6 in order to have the Scene Removal mask feature. 🎬

    The last time I was adept at using FC was with version 7. I’m a beginner with this new version(s)
    What I appreciate is you showed how you edited your video!! Most people just post a clip of something else and take 10-15 minutes explaining it!!!

    It is so much easier, and better, to remove backgrounds with the Sheffield Keyper plugin. Keyper is simply superior to Apple’s own background remover. I am not impressed by this new feature in FCP but it is a step in the right direction (use of machine learning in FCP) and it is better to have it than not to have it at all. I keep hoping Apple is finally going to give us REAL game changing updates with FCP one of these days. I really don’t want to jump ship to DaVinci Resolve but if all we get with FCP are those meager updates, it is going to be harder and harder not to.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  Před rokem

      Yeah I think you will get way better results using Keyper. I know that a bunch of people won't want to pay for an extra plugin, so hopefully this helps those people to get better results.
      I agree though, it's good to see Apple making these updates. We just need more substantial updates to FCP going forward 👍🏼

    I suppose one needs a clear background/subject separation with no light spilling over the subject for this effect to work better and be more convincing. Davinci Resolve has also advanced in this separation of the subject, with a different technique based on AI ... let's see how the technology advances in the coming times.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  Před rokem +4

      I definitely think there are superior options out there compared to the Scene Removal Mask. It's surprising that Apple didn't do a better job with it. DVR, After Effects and even AI tools like RunwayML deliver better results.

    • @ProfKlaus
      @ProfKlaus Před rokem +1

      No need for a clear background but definitely not an overly cluttered background. You want to stand out from what’s behind you so FCP knows what you’re trying to remove. Try to wear contrasting colors. I made a video on my channel explaining how to best plan for using the scene removal filter. czcams.com/video/xjFUG9YQlP4/video.html
      I hope Brad doesn’t mind me commenting on this channel. This filter is something I wish I had when I was starting out. We take a lot of these features for granted because they are free and so easy to use . Demonstrating how to use them will hopefully inspire someone to create the next great video! You just need to be creative.

    • @TechMixr
      @TechMixr Před rokem

      @@Brad_West I absolutely loved the first one I got so I bought a second one 😂
      One of the quirks was that you would lose human detect autofocus if the HDMI was connected at 6K/5.9K resolutions. They fixed this in the 2.0 firmware (did a short about this on my channel) - paired with the DJI RS3 gimbal, active track is amazing in those resolutions now. It’s not perfect, but now that these cameras have phase detect auto focus, it’s such an upgrade for Panasonic (I came from a GH5 Mark II which is a great camera, but I really struggled to get the look I wanted where the S5 Mark II had a lot of latitude to get me there)

  • @deilsoncso
    @deilsoncso Před rokem +1

    I think it's really sad that in 2023 FCPX or Apple Motion don't have a decent rotobrush tool, still having to use third-party plugins like Keyper.
    Keyper is excellent if your lighting is perfect, if it's 90% it starts to fail sometimes and you can't extend its selection mask because it's a closed plugin, and Keyper's tweaks are to make the mask even more more closed than more open which is a very negative point when your subject has not been fully selected.
    After Effects already has rotobrush for years, and now with this new mask prompt plugin, it left rotobrush in the slipper, but this plugin is only for After Effects, even Davinci Resolve has a native rotobrush which is amazing.
    Every time I have to export video to After Effects to do rotobrush and that sucks.
    If Apple Motion is a kind of After Effects, it is absurdly late with news and interesting features, and little by little it is losing space and making people migrate to other tools.
    EDIT:
    Today, it would be very easy for these companies to buy intellectual property like Runaway, for example, which uses AI to do rotobrush, and I think the way it makes the selection with a few clicks is impeccable, it would be a matter of time and willingness to assist consumers in buying this technology and implement it in the editing tool.
    Photoshop with new generative fill is surprising everyone, why not do something similar but with the rotobrush function?

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  Před rokem

      Yeah I agree. It would be great to see FCP have good, reliable (and intuitive and easy-to-use) rotobrush capabilities and I feel like the technology exists already at Apple to make it happen. Why we don't already have it is a mystery to me. I think the Scene Removal Mask and plugins like Keyper are the best options at the moment if one wants to stay inside FCP. The Rotobrush tool and rotoscoping features in After Effects are far superior.

      I’m not a big fan of the way it works. I would personally rather rotoscope in After Effects. For those that don’t have that option and want to be able to do it in FCP, this video hopefully gives them an idea on how to use the feature.
