Our expansion is one of the large traction wheels, about the size of the disk, dropping down into our fly wheel and well, shooting out. We one innovate award, but did win the tournament.
As a Judge, having to score string is horrible. Scoring robot tiles is too, as field elements/parts on the robot are blocking the wheels or another part that is supposed to touch tiles, or is close. Can't forget the refs, too.
I'm late, but last year in States our opponents were 2 of my sister teams, one of them completely broke, and the other had a broken flywheel, we would've won, exc3pt a judge t4ipped over string so we rematched, they fixed everything, and my team lost by like 160 points
We have one more motor and It's taking everything in my ability to convince my team to make a mini robot for endgame. We already have a 5-string setup this is just for the memes

Every time we went up to the field at our last tournament, the refs were disappointed. (We were the only team with string shooters en mass)

That's so cool! You definitely should earn the innovate award for something creative like that. It also sounds like it was super effective as well!

I was at haunted some people used fishing line, it was a nightmare for the refs, dark field with fishing line did not match well.
Man, I can't even imagine having to score all that fishing line in the dark!
