      I actually find this Bournonville style rather funny...the man doesn't look very manly, especially when compared to the Russian style. Very beautiful, though.

      @@serbanescusimona i think the exact opposite. The vaganova port de bras looks feminine to me, especially when its about male dancing. While bournonville looks more masculine.
      Fun how everyone has a different perception.
      But i wouldn't say that mcrae captured the essence of bournonville style.

    I just love this ballet. The bournonville choreography is so fluent and natural. I wish he had choreographed Sleeping Beauty. I find many of the movements quite ugly in the Petipa version, the fairies are very stuccato and unfairylike. This is a super version of La Sylphide, but Iana Salenko's sylph deserves a mention as well, and also Osipova's [Whose shoes are soft even though she's dancing it with the Bolshoi, so I'm guessing soft shoes are best for this style]

    this must be one of the greatest partnerships in this pas de deux McRae is faultless as James Whilst Tamaras Sylph is so technically brilliant whilst encompassing the lightness required in the role, she is after all a creature of the Scottish Mist A lot of ballerinas can tackle the technical aspects but their performances become heavy and too showy for the role. Musically these two are faultless in interpretation and sheer dynamism

      It's possible that Tamara leaves the box more harder than most dancers when she breaks them in thus making it louder than some performances (of different ballets) where you can hear the contact between the shoe and the stage. I think it's more important to pay attention to the technique and the characterisation that she does for the Sylph rather than her shoes.

    • @alejimenez76
      @alejimenez76 Před 9 lety +5

      Natasha Davies sylphs are silent on the floor .... it is very important to maintain the lightness, weightlessness, is part of: purest style of this ballet, I can show you a multitude of really ethereal dancers, we cansee the technique every day is all ballet companies in the world, all the girls repeating mechanically the same perfect movements, now I want to see something more, i want to see what makes the difference between a dancer and a real prima ballerina, of course you can think different about it, as I can do it either...

    • @Royalbrettania
      @Royalbrettania Před 9 lety +1

      alejimenez76 I agree... to an even further point that sylphide should be performed in period point shoes...the soft ones Emma Livry would have worn in the original - gracefulness is becoming ( sadly) a thing of the past

    • @egomi24
      @egomi24 Před 9 lety +4

      She has super arched feet. It is very hard to do all this small petite foot work in soft shoes, especially with her feet! She could risk injury if not careful. I'm sure this is something that has followed her through out her career.

    • @noblesetsentimentales
      @noblesetsentimentales Před 9 lety +8

      +Camilo Gómez Actually, softer shoes are better for this technique, as hard shoes hinder the jump, don't they? That's why you always see Danish ballerinas in soft shoes when they perform the Bournonville repertoire.

  • @siegfried923
    @siegfried923 Před 4 lety

    I have seen some Royal Danes struggle to get this right emotionally and artistically even though trained in Bournonville style - exceptions I have seen was Niels Kehlet and Margaret schann many years ago and the wonderful Eva Evdokimova and Schaufauss And of course Johann Kobburg

  • @YerkesDodsonCurve
    @YerkesDodsonCurve Před 8 lety +3

    it's a fun ballet to watch, but I'd like to see him not fall out of his pirouettes as much as he did this time around and she needs to land softly and intensely arched feet or not, she needs a softer shoe or she needs to find a way to land in the "period style" of this piece. Floaty and lovely arms, but she's not Bournonville trained and you can see it a mile off.

    Tamara Rojo is a ballerina " erea Internet " in fact mostly ballets by Tamara Rojo are by videos on CZcams ; why j write this ? Because all balkerinas before 1978 ( the first VHS ) are less known, often little videos ( 15 for Noella Pontois in good captures ) ; what about Ghislaine Thesmar ? very little videos . With Russians we are on Y T more movies-films of Bolchoi , russians ballerinas are more known on Y T than French Dancers ( erea before 1978 ) , Notoriety of Tamara Rojo is more important than some Dancers before erea VHS * 1977 * because there are many videos on Y T no with Ghislaine Thesmar, j talk here about Toutubers who don't known * without videos * dancers as Ghislaine Thesmar .
