I was at this show in Nashville, my first ever rock concert when I was 15. My dad dropped me off at Vandy Memorial Gym 4 hours before doors opened, and shortly after my friend from school arrived too. (RIP Joe) We were the first ones at the venue and we noticed a couple guys riding mountain bikes on the lawn. They stopped and got off their bikes about 30 feet from us, and we went up to talk to them and one of them was Trent Reznor. I didnt recognize him at first because he was wearing a ball cap. He was also wearing a black Genotorturers t shirt with a purple logo, cargo shorts and combat boots. I dont know what cologne he was wearing but it smelled amazing and I've smelled it on other people only twice since then, and it took me back to this moment both times. When I realized who he was, I introduced myself and shook his hand. We wanted him to autograph our tickets but no one had a pen, so instead he told us we could come inside and listen to the soundcheck. We followed him inisde and he told us to grab some seats. We were the only ones in the venue (besides a couple of the Jim Rose Circus freaks sitting behind us) and nine inch nails played maybe 3 or 4 songs. It was surreal. The puzzle piece tattoo guy from Jim Rose was complaining that Trent never invited him and his friends to any of his after parties. After the soundcheck, we went up to Robin Finck, who had a sharpie and autographed our tickets. We started to wander around to try and locate Trent again, but security told us we had to leave at that point.

This was second concert. I was 12, I don’t have as cool of a story as yours but that sounds awesome. Isn’t this the show where Marilyn Manson opened and he (Manson) tried to climb up on some stage prop and fell off?!

@Dadnoobian yes MM opened the show, but I don't remember him falling off of anything. All I remember is him wearing a big black dildo strap on or something. Their set from this same show is also uploaded on YT. I haven't watched the whole thing tho. I also remember the guy who came out at the very beginning to greet the audience told us that "we were all Satan's children tonight."

@Dadnoobian someone has uploaded Marilyn Manson's set here on YT from this same show, and I watched part of it, but I don't remember him falling off of anything. Do you remember the guy in the audience who was shirtless and his entire upper body was painted white?

@@latch78 I’ve only been able to find one song at the opening of their set. But he was trying to get up on a cube and slipped. So I guess a little different than full on falling off, but was the shortest way to describe it

I have not gone through and watched all the Self-Destruct tour recordings by any means, but this one is particularly good. The sound is legible for the most part. The camera angle effectively displays action on the stage, and I appreciate that the recorder didn't only focus on Trent. Obviously, he's the frontman, but I prefer when the video moves around to other members. I find it remarkable that the recorder was able to maintain composure throughout this show and provide us with this amazing document.

The quality of this video is fantastic!!! I was lucky enough to catch an early date on the self destruct 94 tour, May 3rd in Dallas. They played a hole in the wall club called the Bomb factory. It was a brutal pit but an amazing show. As Closer exploded up the charts and after the Woodstock 94 performance they kept playing larger venues as the tour went on. Going to see them for the 13th time in Vegas next week!!!

The best NIN formations were this one and the one from 2005/2006/2007 with Aaron north and Jeordie White aka Twwigy Ramirez.
