Seems like the 'that girl' routine also requires an inherent privilege of ✨tiiiime✨. Time is a resource that I don't think enough influencers acknowledge when they push "optimization" content. Kinda icky when I think about it. We shouldn't feel shame for not being able to match the lifestyle of someone with an uncommon amount of time within their own control. Excellent video as always Shelby 🧡

Why is it icky for them to create this content just because it doesn't apply to everyone? Would it be icky for someone to create a college study tips content because not everyone can go to college? If you are feeling shame, it's not the fault of those creating the content. If you think you need to be like them, you are the one holding yourself to that standard - nobody else. I bet the people who care about you will still love you whether you are waking up at 6am and journaling or not.

My understanding of “That Girl” has always been someone who is unique, and stands out making people turn their heads. She was not just beautiful, but beautiful on the inside too. She didn’t follow trends, but became a trendsetter and not even intentionally. Whenever I hear this trend I think of the sitcom “That Girl” with Marlo Thomas. She was a big role model for women then, and she always portrayed a positive and independent character for her female fans, to have have their own mind. On top of that she wore beautiful clothes and was stylish, but her personality was likeable and loveable. That’s really what made her stand out, was who her character was on the inside

@@amystephens513 another mom here, it's less about martyrdom and more about food waste. By my own experience and observations kids need to be trained to eat leftovers and until that training is complete you don't want to waste food that took time, effort, and money to produce. I'll usually take smaller portions than I would normally and finish what my kid doesn't eat. This isn't completely universal as they learn to better understand taking only what they will eat in a sitting and my own knowledge of what they are most likely to eat if I put it in the fridge once they are done with it. Similarly it also depends on the food itself, a dressed salad or cereal in milk get disgusting if allowed to sit around, or if it's say one or two bites left on a plate I really don't need that taking up space in my fridge.

@@kutanra in generell yes to the little steps but at some point that doesn't make a difference anymore, since bodys respond different to our own circadian rhythm hormones (I could elaborate but that would produce way to much text). Which is why some people won't get tired till 1 am and other can't keep themselves awake after 10 pm. This is also tied to what time we are the most productive e.g the brain of a evening person will not be awake and productive at 8 am even if they force themselves into an early every day schedule. The same as an morning person will not be productive anymore at 10 pm.

Since I learned about that concept I try to tip toe into potential habits without buying something for at least a few months before I take the plunge. For example, I've been bullet journalling for 2 years with pens I already have - it's not as cute, but I wanted to make sure that habit is there before I bought "nice" pens. Also, I find that journaling right before bed is best for me, I keep my journal on my nightstand and that way I am reminded. It also helps to just brain dump before bed, then I feel like I can fall asleep easier. I like to focus on writing down the good things that happened that day for me, and all the things in my life that I am grateful for. It puts me in a good feeling place right before falling asleep, which helps me to wake up in a better feeling place as well.
Thank you for speaking up about chickens and how they are bred to produce so many eggs. I think going to the grocery store and buying animal products really puts a barrier between the reality of what animals go through. Also, how much of those animal products are thrown away everyday in grocery stores just makes me feel so sad for the animal that suffered for no reason, but that is a whole other topic for discussion.

Great video! I've heard that chickens lay eggs until they have a clutch (12 eggs) and then they stop for a bit and their bodies get to rest but if you keep taking the eggs, they will keep laying them.

I'm so glad I don't really care about trends at all, this all sounds so exhausting to me. I still wear clothes I bought 10 years ago and I just wear what I think suits me and what fits 😅 splash my face in the morning and a lil SPF and I'm good to go

I think everyone’s version of “That girl” should be different and consists of what makes THAT individual feel good. And it should cater to your lifestyle (how much time it takes) so that it’s sustainable and the habits are consistent. I 100% feel better when I do some of the typical “that girl” things early in the morning, I just do it my way aka a workout I look forward to, just throwing my comforter over my bed, eating a quick breakfast I like, etc.
It’s probably because I’m not on tik tok I didn’t realize these girls always wear hats but the hat part of your video was both true and hilarious 😂 I feel so good when I’m wearing my sustainable brands to the gym and people compliment my outfits so I can share the brand.
Also I’ve been using Osea for at least two years and just started using that serum and I love it.

This was such an interesting and unique video concept! I generally don't like watching those "that girl" videos because they can sometimes feel kind of shame spiraly, but YOUR version and talking about the different aspects of why these routines aren't sustainable is SO amazing! One of my favorite videos you've ever made!

I really loved this video thank you. I hadn't heard of this trend, I am not usually up on most trends as they always make me feel bad about myself.
As a mum with chronic health issues raising special needs kids I find trend like this so toxic, they make me feel like a failure because my life doesn't and can't look like this...
I do think it's important to have self care routines that work for you and the environment though.
I always love how thought provoking your videos are. They never feel like you are belittling people who don't know better yet which is a great safe environment to explore new ideals.
    Have a wonderful weekend 😀

Seeing you work out was actually really inspiring. I haven’t been as active since I started working more and honestly since the beginning of the Panera lockdowns. Since it’s been so long since I have been inside a gym at this point it’s super intimidating. Even when I would go I would often feel a bit lost. I forget that I really enjoy workouts that rely on body movements, versus equipment. I sometimes feel like I gotta do something special to work out. I forget that the best exercise feels natural and fun. Anyway I’m planning on setting aside 10 minutes of stretching and aerobics in the morning, and gradually increasing the duration.

Ahh shelb! 💚I really loved this vid! You nailed it.. I really appreciated your point of sustainability not being the trend, but consumerism. It’s so obvious once you put it that way.. I never got “those girls” on TikTok who restock the mini fridges in their room with skin care and/or snacks.. like your clear containers are adorable and aesthetic, but it’d be wayyy cooler if they were putting bulk products into those, instead of repackaging single use ones 🥴😅
Also, random idea but I’d love to hear more from you about which major stores are the best at handling their waste products or returns.. I know you’ve ranked most sustainable brands, but I’d love to know.. is shopping at Marshall’s or Ross slightly more sustainable since it’s getting a second chance at being sold? kinda like that Amazon return place you visited recently, or is that just how it used to be? Are there known places that always are diligent to to donate their returns, rather than trashing/destroying them? I love learning from your dumpster diving days (been there too lol)..but I’m so curious on a larger scale if ANY big box stores are handling their waste in a positive way. Kinda like the electronic take back systems at Best Buy or Goodwill. Down stream waste is such a major sustainablity factor that gets over looked so often..
    👍 🌎 💗
P.S. you are looking so healthy and happy recently, you go girl!! I live in Austin and have been following since your makeup tutorial days💕.. When y’all make make the move back this way, I’d love to meet up with you and Madison sometime. It’s just so wonderful getting to know other like minded folks, and I think we have tons in common. My inbox is always open if you’d like a new friend! Def out of my comfort zone to say that, but I’ve been wanting to for years now, and who knows since y’all hang with Bailey lol😆😋 hope to hear from you!

I didn't know the 'that girl' was a specific kind of girl... I don't have tiktok so I saw the occasional reel on Insta about it, and honestly thought that everybody has their own 'that girl'. The girl you look up to, that inspires you, that you want to 'copy' a little bit... So honestly I saw YOU as one of my 'that girl's! Like, you inspire me so much and you live rent free in my head as sort of an extra conscience? When I want to buy something I do go for my own styles/needs/.. but there's always the Tiny Shelbi in the back of my head that reminds me 'Do I need it? Do I actually like it? Can I borrow/rent/get secondhand?
Anyways, I found this a very fun and educational video, and I hope people keep finding your channel and see the sustainable light you always radiate.

that trampoline looked so fun 😍 but anyway when you were cutting the apples I saw a lid with the fruit sticker things on them and I was just wondering what they were because if its a way to reduce the waste of those stickers I would like to know because they are a huge part of my families waste. Thank you so much for this video I loved it so much.

I love that you did this take on the "that girl" trend! 👏🏻I have complex feelings about this trend. On one hand, I think it's great if it gets people to drink water, take better care of themselves and work towards their goals. On the other hand, I think it perpetuates the idea of what we "should be"/"fantasy self" rather than who we are and what is actually important to us.
As these videos are aesthetically pleasing the trend focuses a lot on how we are seen by others rather than if we do feel truly good in ourselves. I have learnt to feel my best I needed to drop a lot of balls and accept that my house will be a mess at times for example because I need to rest and/or do other things that bring me joy. Definitely not aesthetic and something "that girl" does - but at least I feel rested and fulfilled!

Oh, this is something I see a lot of in the journalling community -- something about it had always seemed a little bit off to me, and I think you really nailed down some of the things that had been wiggling in the back of my head on this. The romanticism towards it isn't always bad but...for someone with mental illness, it's so much work for so little payoff lol.
I'm glad you posted this, as I never really thought about the sustainability side of things. Thanks, this was fun and informative! 🌱

Little note: you CAN still help your chickens: there are implants that stop them from laying so many eggs and prevent their premature death and mineral and nutrient deficiency from the constant egg laying. It's what they do at animal sanctuaries, at least in Spain.

I’m like you in the way that I can’t sit down with a book and read. The other week I FINALLY started listening to audiobooks and have already “read” 2 books. That’s more books than I’ve read in probably 2-3 years. So if “that girl” reads every day this better count because I’m proud.
