Russians play famous American marches so why is that okay but this isnt? 1812 is an important year in US history, we burnt down the White House that year and all of Washington. It was the final battle.

The newly built Washington DC capitol was burnt to the ground as revenge for a single Canadian building being torched. This conflict was totally seperate from the one in Russia but the likeness between Russia and America at the time was that both were seeking freedom from those trying to 'opress' their countries, a common battle but it was no world war or linked together in any way.. even though the French were helping the Americans while at the same time almost having total control of the Russian Empire.. but thats what this song is about the Russian defense against Napoleons army that ultimately saw Napoleans complete defeat and ultimate arrest by British forces. Fun fact: Napoleon was setting sail to the US where he was going to build a palace while bringing his most valuable possessions but right as he was about to embark across the Atlantic, he was surrounded by British troops which ultimately arrested him thus never reaching America nor never seeing freedom again. Hopefully that clears things up :)
