I've been to Recife once. Best beaches in the city outside of Rio, plus it's not as busy as Rio so it's a fairly laid back city. Small drawback is that there's not as many things to do compared to Rio. For comparisons sake, Rio would be like Miami while Recife is Daytona Beach. They both have their own charms.

When you order your passport order a passport card with it too. Its like 30 or 40 bucks but its a passport ID like a license. So you can carry it in your wallet when you go out and keep the passport in the hotel room

Damn the vibe you guys got is the same vide I got back in 2020 when I was there during the pandemic. Beaches don't get going till the weekend. I thought things would be more lively 2 years later but guess not. The craziest thing to happen while I was there in that mall, a guy tried to commit self delete and jumped from the upper floor hitting the bottom flat. I was eating at the time and heard the splat. Very sickening sound! Crazy thing is I think the guy survived as he was load into the ambulance. Women wise, it was just as yall said with taking a little bit longer to find the dimes. Overall I got the vibe that is was more of a relationship atmosphere and meant of people who were already coupled up.

On Floyd: He just needs to take a high quality picture of the passport and get it laminated either small enough to fit in a wallet or just a little bit bigger to fit in a pocket anywhere.
Either way the advice given to him is on point, but if he really is that new, I can understand his hesitancy. But at the same time no need to be silly and get your passport and other valuables sliced into someones hand from a pickpocket. (i.e. they slice the bottom of the pocket in a clean move moving by, and all the contents fall out, and the victim is none the wiser)
