I've worked for decades with severely autistic people with violent tendencies. This mom knows better than to board an airplane unprepared. She even told people her daughter would become violent if the request was denied. Ofc the pilot would want them off the plane.
Here is what we don't know about this situation. Did either of the girl's parents contact the airline prior to the trip, to inform them of their daughter's circumstances? If so, could there have been a mistake?
"We did not go on that plane expecting a hot meal." Okay, so you admit you were unprepared. You know your daughter melts down if her routine is changed. It was not very kind of you to put HER in this situation.
I'm just stabbing in the dark, but I think I know what happened. The mom probably asked for this hot meal, in what seemed a demanding way. She may not have specified that the daughter was autistic, so when it seemed to the flight attendants that the mom asked for the hot meal, or else there would be a meltdown, they probably took it more of a threat than something that the mother was trying to convey as to being a simple remedy from having her daughter have an autistic outburst. Misunderstandings and tragic incident. However we can all only speculate as to what really happened. I personally think that the airline could have handled it better. But again, I wasn't there.
What if a service dog or a guide dog was on the same plane as them? Her sounds would cause the service dog to miss a medical alert and cause a guide dog to get distracted. To me if a service dog or a guide dog was on the same plane as them they should warn the parents about that
She wasn't kicked off because she was autistic, the family was kicked off because of the parents' irresponsibility. The mother asked for a hot meal, and was told no, causing her daughter to go out of control. The parents were trying to find a way to milk the airline out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some passengers felt uncomfortable, and that she could even climb over her parents and hurt someone, or even open an exit mid flight. The parents should have made her eat her dinner before they got on the plane, but instead, let it go. The parents were the reason the plane landed mid-flight, not the fact that their daughter is autistic.
Right! They can blame the airlines all they want. But I’m just gonna point something out. They weren’t kicked out because Juliet had autism, her parents got kicked out along with her daughter, because her mom was threatening the flight attendants for a hot meal from first class. Lots of scenarios could’ve happened. One. Juliet could’ve been strong enough to break the window. Second. She could’ve climbed over her parents and ran to the exit and opened it putting so many people at risk of death. Three. She could’ve climbed over her mom and dad and scratched other people. Ran up and down screaming. I am a highly functioning autistic and verbal thank goodness. But I try my hardest to accommodate myself. The mom had no right to be passive aggressive, she was holding the flight crew at ransom. “ if you don’t give my daughter a hot meal from first class she will throw a fit and scream and scratch you if you don’t give her a free meal” your daughter is not the threat you are! I think the flight passengers should be the ones suing you and United Airlines. Wake up karen! The world should not revolve around you or your child!!
@@timsekac2624 have you ever dealt with someone with autism. She clearly didn't know how to express the distress she was in, her senses were in over drive. Having a few extra warm meals on a flight should happen. Walm meals are an excellent soother for people with autism, or young people in general. She is not a brat, not in the slightest.
Parents of autistic children are the absolute worst. They don't even understand what their kids are feeling, or what they are truly expressing. They don't see how they are the cause of both the condition and the behavior in the child. It's hardly discrimination if one passenger makes a flight bad for dozens of other people. If someone is unable to be a passenger in a way that is not harmful to others, then they are unable to fly. It's the same for pregnant women over 28 weeks, someone who had had a recent heart attack, or someone who is 400 lbs. These are medical conditions that prevent them from flying. It is incredibly entitled to think that everyone deserves everything, it's simply not true and too much to ask of others. Don't pass off your hardships onto other people. Most folks are pretty forgiving, accommodating and caring about people with challenges, but only up to a point. Unbelievable that these parents think they can sue. Perhaps they should have been sued for negligence. They could have packed a suitable meal to heat up for her on the plane or made another choice for travel. Their disconnect tracks with how they have a daughter like this in the first place. Autistic children are the most sensitive of HSPs and are like an antenna for the household, expressing everything suppressed by their desensitized parents.
Ok lets talk. As someone who is one of the main caretakers of my sister we cannot predict meltdowns. 1 The parents asked to purchase an hot meal. Now saying that she was irrisponible is an overreaction. The packed safe foods, they brought her toys, they tried. It is clear none of you have ever delt with someone with special needs so lets clear a few things up. You cannot predict what will go on that day it is not possible. Some days will be good days others will be bad. Saying to call the airlines? That gives more ammunition to just deny them the chance to fly. Also they allow babies on airplanes they scream and cry. What was the difference. This was ableism. They didn't like how the girl acted so they kicked her off. Stemming and screaming is normalin stressful situations. It is quite hard for people with autism to express how they feel and people need to understand that. My sister is 18 and the best way i can explain it is a 3 yr old stuck in an 18 yr olds body with ocd odd anxiety and more. If you have never delt with an autistic person or are not an autistic person do not speak on this discussion cause you dont know shit.
I had an accident which made me a paraplegic, I don't fly because I don't want to put people through something I may cause with loading or unloading, airlines don't have the time to deal with every person with every issue.........its not their job to learn about disabilities...........you either conform or stay off the plane
Just to clarify, I myself AM disabled. But from expecting a "hot lunch" when they didn't ask ahead, people were then saying airplanes should be required to have sensory boards, which is ridiculous.

The crew did the right thing! The girl should have had a hot meal before the flight and if the girl opened an exit door at 36 thousand feet that would be dangerous They did the right thing kicking the family off the plane
I feel that planes should have a little sensory place on board so that people who like me have special needs can have a nice calm flight like everyone else and then gets to have their holidays etc too.
