What. The. Fuck. How anyone can slate this is simply beyond comprehension- age aside, to see such playing is the work of a master and unequivocal adapt of the art known as music. Period.
One of my students, who is a senior, says her previous teacher said her hand was too small to play Chopin. Obviously this guys teacher knows what he's doing.
no kidding. he is the kind of player that a true classical piano conneusieur should know to follow every performance. catch him whereever you can. he is a true gem.
I attend Haochen Zhang's, aged 27 now, concert last night, he played an encore- Improvisation in G major, in the Style of W. A. Mozart. It was wonderful.
Behold the future first "trifecta" winner in pianistic history: the Chopin, the Cliburn AND the Tchaikovsky in about 15 years. I only had to hear the first Etude to know I was witnessing a phenomenon. Why this doesn't have 1,000,000 hits I cannot fathom.
well, he won the Cliburn which was all he needed to embark on a successful international career as a soloist. Haochen was able to utilize his musical genius as a child prodigy to a renown artist that he is today.
I heard Zhang a couple of weeks ago in Beijing playing the Rach 3 and the Yellow River Concerto. His mature interpretations of these Etudes (not to mention handling the technical difficulties with the hand size of an 11yo) are amazing. His performances of the Rach and YRC were no less amazing.
You have talent and great dedication and perseverance, to achieve this high level of performance at your young age!! Thank you for sharing your music that comes from hours and hours of hard work and lots of sacrifice to achieve!! Keep up your wonderful work!
Wow - awfully impressive playing. Only a handful of 21-year old kids on this planet can play a set of Chopin Etudes that well.... What's that you say? He was 11??? ;-)
Wonderful performance. The only thing that distracted from it was the ignorant people talking through the concert. Stay away from a concert if you want to talk, or STFU!
Your "taichi" isn't very efficient as people think it is. The power I refer to is not 200 pound lifting, but his ability to change dynamics well. But he has a brilliant talent.
How does an 11-year old SING so in the #3 and the #6 (which I'm currently hearing)? (I didn't hear that singing in the 2005 Cliburn, oddly enough -- must have been the pieces he chose.)
I agree it almost seems unreal that an 11 year old could have the chops let alone the intellect to play the way he's playing.BTW who's the idiot yacking in the background?
question for y'all: anyone have any idea what the chinese practice as young ones that can produce such strong, supporting fingers? how is it possible they have such technique!!??
lucy maner using bone structure , research alan fraser for info. Interestingly there are no muscles in the fingers at all, strength comes from tendons to the fingers which are powerful even in young people the hard part is the brain being able to direct the fingers and controlling the muscles around the tendons of the arm shoulder palm etc to work correctly
il numero 2 è sbagliato, ha omesso completamente la voce del 2 dito, la quale è proprio quest'ultima a rendere lo studio difficile, però data la sua età, non si può dire altro se non che sia stato davvero bravo.
Alejandra Sarmiento According to his interview, he learned the whole set of Chopin Etudes Op.10 in just 16 days as his teacher suddenly called for all the students to perform a recital, which is what you are watching now. What's more amazing about Haochen Zhang as a kid was that he had his first recital at the age of 5 playing all Bach two part inventions plus a Mozart and a Haydn Sonata, not to mention the fact that he started his piano lessons only a year before. :)

Michael Gfroerer At the time this video was recorded, his teacher was also the teacher of Yundi Li, the Chopin Competition winner.
sunny66668888 YUNDI'S SUCCESSOR HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Teacher = dao zhao yi?
Josie Lau yes
Well the kid’s hands must be at least large enough to hit an octave
Looking forward to watching his musical life develop further. Wonderful talent.
+Jeffrey Biegel Have you been following his career? I just listened to him life in a concert hall last night. He is 25 years old now.
Jeffrey Biegel And yeah he is quite famous now.
no kidding. he is the kind of player that a true classical piano conneusieur should know to follow every performance. catch him whereever you can. he is a true gem.
@@danschmeidler Also his recording of the Tchaikovsky concerto is very good.
Simply amazing for a pianist so young. Last year I heard him at Jordan Hall, Boston, after he won the gold medal at 13th Van Cliburn.

I love and hate this video at the same time....
He's just incredible
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! BEYOND WORDS!
Number 2 is off the charts good.
Dr. Xiao, your studio is an inspiration, truly, an inspiration.
I’m so glad you think so.
Warmly,
June
I just heard this masterful artist last evening, playing Rachmaninoff, now as a 26 yr. old.
Simply amazing!

lovely playing. one to keep the eyes on!
Wow 天生的 自發的 令人不可思議的
wow literally wow, amazing hands
Schiff watched this video before and told haochen that he was so cute lol
where have you heard this? curious to look at it
O come on, he's a kid . And his command of dynamics and phrasing is good for someone do young. he'll grow with time.
My God!!
Amazing! A positive hint that we all have more potential than what we thing we have.
Maravilloso!!!!👏👏👏👍
OMG incredible...
Wow - awfully impressive playing. Only a handful of 21-year old kids on this planet can play a set of Chopin Etudes that well.... What's that you say? He was 11??? ;-)
WOW
Bravo!
Wonderful performance. The only thing that distracted from it was the ignorant people talking through the concert. Stay away from a concert if you want to talk, or STFU!
He's an absolute monster...
Too bad the audience is so noisy. If people want to talk, they should go outside.
adequate - a lot of dumb founded people going. "wtf". some people probably passing out not believeing their ears.
If people talking would need to go outside then the whole audience would be gone
What do you expect from a Chinese audience? I bet you most of them are talking about why their child isn't like Haochen lol
OP brother
Your "taichi" isn't very efficient as people think it is. The power I refer to is not 200 pound lifting, but his ability to change dynamics well.
But he has a brilliant talent.
@utubuser10 He only participated in the 2009 Cliburn.
Anyone has the actual recording?
When I saw his age, I was too shocked that I can't understand the situation. Still I don't know if this is real or unreal.... Perhaps surreal...
Common sight in China: Photographers walking in front of the audience.

jeezus
Why won't the people in the background stop talking!!!

lol holy crap
Why are people TALKING during the concert?!!
il numero 2 è sbagliato, ha omesso completamente la voce del 2 dito, la quale è proprio quest'ultima a rendere lo studio difficile, però data la sua età, non si può dire altro se non che sia stato davvero bravo.
Invidioso eh
This just amazing Seriously. I mean I could play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata Part III at the age of 9, and this is just astounding.
PureTalent way to be humble
PureTalent right. It’s not that difficult the moonlight sonata. Just a collective of arpeggios in the main part lol
PureTalent jkjk it still takes some work haha
i quit
how the f do you play 10/1 with 11 year old hands lol...
I note that he must work a lot... he has great tecnique and plays AMAZING but sometimes he doesn't play the piece with musicality.
he was only 11 years old

@@kevkyaw this kid is almost like a second Mozart in this century
TOO BAD THE SOUND IS SO HORRIBLE, THIS KID CAN REALLY PLAY !!!
mechanical and harsh
Perhaps it's the poor video audio quality? Still, I couldn't depict anything negative about his playing unless I tried.
Which part? Name one
Lol shut up
