  • So today, there were 2 M3 sets that made a comeback on the West Hempstead line after 4 years. I wasn’t able to film the rear front window but it was fine by me since I decided to do the side window instead. It’s surprising to see these run on this branch after a while and the reason why they don’t run these very often on the West Hempstead branch is because of a substation in Malverne that has problems with handling these. And after hearing the LIRR banning these trains on the West Hempstead line, I was never expecting to see a single M3 run on this branch again. I hope you enjoy the video. I’m also looking forward to see more M3s run on this branch more frequently before the lirr retire the M3s for good.

They release so much amperage that it blow all the fuses, providing power to the 3rd Rail. How much power they put out depends on what position the handle is in. Between Malverne and Lakeview, you can't go beyond P1 on the power handle.

I saw the substation in Malverne the other day. I assume that the M1s had this problem too?
