Can the 10 days come any sooner? 👁👄👁
Loved playing through both games and expansions, did really well in condensing this but throne of bhaal was a great expansion
Throne of Bhaal is a rather boring linear generic affiar.. but it IS REALLY important in conjunction with bg 1 and 2 as it properly finishes the story of the Bhaalspawn (Throne of Bhaal was originally meant to be BG3 but they couldnt get funding to make a full game so instead we got a more diablo'esque game rather than a proper deep rpg)
@@kmortensen9312 So I found it anything but boring. Perhaps in isolation, I would agree with you. But it ties in very well with BG2. Story-wise, BG2 was very branched out and, despite the urgent concern of the group, clearly decelerated. ToB is now finally gaining a lot of momentum. And it leads to a worthy ending. At last you get to know the most powerful spells in D&D, fight even more frighteningly powerful enemies with them and travel to quite awesome new areas. So my heart did somersaults as a teenager. Just when I discovered that you could recruit Sarevok. Pure madness!
wait isnt there a baldur gate 2 in PS2 where you start next to an INN? I was waiting for the video to get into that game story (the only one I played), why didnt you speak about it?
You have no idea how much I (and a HUGE portion of the baldurs gate fanbase) appreciate you and your channel. I'm so happy that your channel has grown so much!
well.. thank you so very much!
I remember being so bummed years back that I didn’t complete BG2. I spent hundreds of hours in BG1 over multiple play throughs, and when BG2 came out I already knew who I wanted in the core of my party. Imoen, being one. When she was captured at the beginning of the game I essentially did as little as I could until she was in the party before “starting” the game. By the time I clicked, I was entering the elvin tree. I didn’t want to finish so deleted my saves presuming I would give it another go. And then didn’t. 😂
@@granthurley7371 BG2 is one of the alltime greats. You should give it another go.
Nailed it

Watching this and thinking about how Astarion had already been a slave to Cazador for 100 years by the start of Baldur's Gate 1. I don't know what to feel.
Throne of Bhaal is the most epic conclusion to a video game series ever, both past and present! Highly recommend :)
Yeah just a bit, The fighting Jon Irenicus during the black hearted boss was stupid hard.
@@WynneL
The antagonist of BG2 being named John is so hilarious to me, it reminds me of Tim from the Holy Grail.
It's actually Jon, without the h, and (minor BGII plot spoiler) it's short for Joneleth.
BG2 is basically incomplete without Throne of Bhaal. It's the true ending of the Bhaalspawn saga and hopefully you can return to it and finish it sometime! It's absolutely worth it.
Ye I mean it is the most important part of the story. I really hope bg3 acknowledges the potential fate of the original main char, otherwise hard to see how it can be considered a sequel even it has jaheira etc if it dodges the question.
@@obi-wan3916 I'm quite sure it is not a sequel at all. Because the Story was finished and all the chapters closed. They even had a "What each character did after the events" part at the end of "Throne of Bhaal".
The reason to call it "Baldur's Gate III" is a pure marketing move by WIzard's of the Coast. It might as well be called "Legend's of the Sword Coast: A Baldur's Gate Story"
@@Quotenwagnerianer true, it seems pretty far removed from baldurs gate at all, with the exception of the city itself in act 3.
@@Quotenwagnerianer what is a Baldur's Gate to you? Both games took a small place in Forgotten Realms lore. They're more of a personal stories about your party. Then what's so different about BG3? Just another story in FR setting about a party of adventurers. No more and no less.
@@kirasmile580 Well it depends on how one defines "Sequel" in this series.
In the narrative sense the Story of the "Baldur's Gate" games, had its conclusion.
However if one defines this series as more of a series that needs to take place in the city of "Baldur's Gate" in some shape or form, no matter what the actually story is and who the protagonists are, then it easily be called a sequel as well.
And herein lies my suspicion that the name (and place) was a marekting tool and not a narrative necesity.
People remember the Baldur's Gate games because they were probably the best designed and written D&D games ever to be released as a computer game. But the Forgotten Realms are big, there is more than the Sword Coast, which is why they also had off-branches like "Icewind Dale".
So the question is why go back to "Baldur's Gate" at all? Another game set in the Forgotten Realms, following the same design philosophy would have been possible.
They played it safe by using the nostalgia card.
But it's not like people asked for a "sequel" in the narrative sense. No one left "Throne of Bhaal" with burning open questions that absolutely needed answering in a 3rd Game.
But more games, like these, that is what people craved.
Faerun is a big continent, lots of places to explore. No need to keep going back to the Sword Coast.
I'm not complaining, just pointing that out.
I wonder if the Dark Urge in BG3 might be a Bhaalspawn as well...
Man, do I have something to tell you.
This is EXACTLY the video I needed and wanted from you. Nobody better to do this than this channel.
Eh. You don't really need a recap with spoilers. BG3 is 100 years after BG2, and it doesn't take player choices into account or anything.
Best to just enjoy BG1&2 unspoiled some time after you play BG3. Also, Throne of Bhaal is a very important expansion to the story of BG2. It's basically the end of the saga.
@@rando6836 I have no interest in playing the older games.
@@MetalCharlo then you still don’t need to watch this, since only about 3 or 4 things carry over from the plot. 5e’s BG is mostly based on the books and 2 D&D campaigns, not the games.
Completely forgot that Wharf was the voice actor of Bhaal. So many star trek actors in this game. Loved it so much.
You mean Worf, and yeah that was Michael Dorn.
@@VidGamer123 yea my bad xd
I'm super new to BG3 but so excited for it, and, as a new viewer here as well, watching your videos has helped cement and enhance that excitement even further, and also helped me find a great channel. Thanks for the awesome--and by-and-large spoiler-free--content you put out :)
thanks!!
Nice touch covering this just prior to the launch! Well timed and appreciated especially for those who don’t know the history!
So much this, I agree with this whole heartedly! Thank you @wolfheartfps! 😊
When I've played both games many times but I still watch this video. 🙂
I'm clearly a child, cause I giggled at Bhaal Spawn every time it was said. Thanks for this! Was a great refresher. Hyped for BG3
Great timing, I was just thinking about looking up the story as a refresher. It's been over two decades since I played through them after all.
Expansions that are worth the story reasons. Siege of Dragonspear a story between Baldur's gate and Baldur's gate II and Throne of Bhaal a finale for the Bhaalspawn saga.
Does anyone know if Beamdog's content is considered Canon? I have a feeling it isn't. Throne of Bhaal of course is Bioware content. Not as good as Shadows of Amn, but it's decent.
@@jimmym3352 There are canon novels. They adapt BG1, BG2, and ToB. According to people online... they suck mightily. Mostly the first two. SoD is probably not important. And, really, all it does it is make the previous canon events remain canon.
Dragonspear isn't needed at all. The writing is awful and it basically rewrites the backstory for a lot of BG2. Throne of Bhaal is basically mandatory though if you want to know the story.
None of this really needs to be known for BG3 though. You basically just need to know that Bhaal died during the time of troubles, but had kids so that he could be reborn someday. There were conflicts because of this, and Minsc and Jaheria were involved in resolving them, assisting one of these Bhaalspawn.
@@rando6836Might be more relevant if you end up playing the Dark Urge
@@TheAshfyr nope. Still not much of it carried over. 5E canon is the books, not the game. You can know about the Slayer and Bhaal in general just from lore.
Your channel has helped me survive all the waiting for the full release. Haha! So happy when there's new video to watch!
Dude i love Eltimar! Sick collab and good on you for shouting him out
Can you imagine if modders go crazy and remake 1&2 in the nee engine?
Insanity.
Loved it!
I did finish the games 20 years ago but couldn't get back to it to rediscover the story.
Thank you Wolf!
Very happy that both prior games got some attention! I still play BG2 to this day with a boat load of mods (over 80!) More companions, more dialogues, more story, more of everything :)
The mod community for the BG Bhaalspawn saga games is insane. I played a ton of mods, too. Still do...
your narration, story telling and general mood is so calming yet intriguing, i could listen to you for hours straight
appreciate that
It would have been awesome If you could cover expansion for BG2 (ToB). I think unlike the other expansions (BG1) this one is actually really crucial because it is all about the final conclusion of the Bhaalspawn saga.
Can't wait to see this. It's been many years since I've played BG1 and 2! This will be a great refresher!
I always loved the opening cinematics for Baldur's Gate 2.
Thanks for the recap. Less than 2 weeks to go.
Definitely picking Dark Urge so I can go Bhaals to the wall. Gunna have that big Bhaal energy.
In a way, arent we all Bhaal-spawn?
Thanks for the re-upload, Wolf. BG1 and BG2 were a bit before my time, so it's great to have a nice narrative video to listen to. It will sate my lust for BG3 a few more days.
The best recap I’ve ever watched of both games, it went straight to the point, no distraction and good narration
I really appreciate this video and anything lore-wise, it's definitely a great prep for BG3. My knowledge with BG1&2 is really rusty since it's been like 500 years since I last played those games so this is a fun video to dive into!
I thought I discovered Baldur's Gate with the latest game... But just by seeing your video I realized that I actually played the first game loooong time ago ! 😍 Unlocked memories !!
Thisi is exactly what I was looking for thank you!
This is a great idea for a video. I haven't played these games in 20ish years, so a refresher is great.
Appreciate this wolf. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m new to this universe, and have been doing my own research and learning in that regard. But stuff like this is greatly appreciated.
N thx Eltimar gaming for the visuals 👍
Thank you so much Wolf! I'm listening to this while working on artwork. I just wish it was longer. :)
You need to do a lore video covering the throne of bhaal as it wraps up the prophecy and story of the bhaal spawn, its a smaller game than the others but great ending. P.s if you kill drizzit in first game and have any of his equipment at the start in the dungeon a person turns up to retrieve his equipment. I only managed to stop him auto takings it off you(his boots of speed) is to run out of areas he appears.
First of all, I am not a native English speaker, but I love your videos and have been following your CZcams channel for nearly 4 years now. I think it's incredibly awesome how you and your channel have evolved and I wish you every success. You bring an incredibly cool vibe to all your videos and every stream. Even as a German, your English content entertains me greatly. Thank You and keep going Wolfheart💙
Haha I just watched both these last night. Thanks for grouping and reuploading them!
No problem. Thanks for watching again.
Very hot day here in Greece today, but iam not complaining since i made a cold Espersso and started watching lore videos from wolf that i havent seen yet, my afternoon will be great! Thank you Wolf, your channel is one of my favorites
I actually watched Eltimar for help on my recent playthroughs. He was very helpful.
Loving your videos, much appreciated. Kudos from Brazil.
Outstanding video, thanks so much for the background!
I played both titles when they came out and I have to admit I have forgotten a lot. To remember some of it was a pleasure. Thank you Wolf!
Just 2 days ago i was talking with a friend of mine and he asked me if i knew the lore of BG1 BG2, and i recomended this channeled because i knew that eventually something like this will appear :)
All your videos put me in the world you are explaining. Thank you
This is a really well put together video. It's concise and explained in a way that makes it easy to absorb. Thanks!
Thanks for watching
I’ve been waiting for this video to drop. 🙌🏾
Thanks for this! As someone who is new to the Baldurs Gate franchise this will help.
Great job! I have watched many of your videos and are my "go to"
This guys has become my Go To for BG3 content. Great stuff man.
Video brought me back to playing these games! Nice work!
Nice video! Also nice mentioning Eltimar!
woahhhhhhh this was dopeee
great work
Thank you very much for telling all the lore this way. Easy to understand and straight to the point.
Thanks for putting this together. I dabbled in BG 1&2, but never finished them. I'll be downloading BG 3 today and this will definitely give me some of the lore knowledge I'll need (or want).
Reuploading this the week before BG3 drops was a great move! Now that's using the ol' noggin' lol. And 87k views in 1 day! I'm so proud 😊
Just love hearing you talk about this amazing series
Such a good recap! I grew up playing these games COUNTLESS times but it's been so long that I forgot many of the story points. This was a great refresher. Also great job at not spoiling some of the twists throughout the stories.
Thanks for watching
A timely reminder of the fun I used to have with Minsc and Jaheira so many years ago. I can't recall if Boo survived though.
Thank you for making this video, super helpful!
thanks for watching!
Best summary I've seen on CZcams. Great work!
Appreciate it!
Hey, so im new to the Baldur’s franchise (as in this is my first one) and I have to thank you helping me understand what the hell im getting into 🤣 this is insane, im really excited for release and I have to thank you again for everything that you do!
🙏
I'd like to point out that Bhaal in the dream sequence is voiced by Michael Dorn aka Worf from Star Trek it's pretty cool 😄
After 200+ hours in early access I still find new content. Today I found a secret Zhentarim hideout. I am blown away by the game even before launch.
Getting the recap of bg1 and 2 is perfect. The background is really important for the feel of the game, and Larian has made a great job of trying to get it right for all those of us who love D&D.
I havent been this excited about a game for a really long time!
Hi Wolf! Thank you for the suggestion! However, you or someone else I watch might've recommended Eltimar Gaming before now, because I'm subscribed to them already. Thank you for the reviewing BG1! When you started BG2 I stopped to avoid spoilers, because I'm playing BG2 with BugMite & Tdub.
I’m completely new to this and I just want to thank you Entirely for all of your videos!
Thanks for watching. Enjoy your run !
I never played these games and am super excited for bg3, but had no idea on these stories. this is an awesome synapse man cheers!
What a great reminder, cheers! I'd played those games ages ago and today forgotten most of it!
I’m new to the game but have watched so many of your videos by now. Thanks so much for helping me get hooked in the series
Appreciate that!!!!
Love these Wolfe! Love learning the lore of Faerun
thanks!
THIS is exactly what I needed!
Did you check Minsc and Boo's Journal of Villainy source book? It contains alot of canon info on key BG characters including Imoen, Inrenicus and the rest. I strongly recommend that you check it out
Even after playing these games so many times its still cool to hear the story again. I gotta point out that those cinematics may not look like much but they were vastly ahead of their time
My brother in Christ, Diablo 2 released in the same year and had VASTLY superior CGI cutscenes.
@@1IGG also im a muslim buddist agnostic
@@1IGG for a game made in 1998 these cutscenes were ground breaking and yes...then diablo 2 came around and broke that mold but that doesnt exactly change what I said
Thank you for this incredible recap! Makes me even more hype for Baldur's Gate III..!
cheers
Awesome video and so wholesome
I appreciate the reupload for us new folks to your channel
I know it's a reup but it's still greatly appreciated
Well damn! Thanks Sebastian.
Ty for the recap. It has been a long, long, loooooong time since I originally played these.
thanks for watching
Thank you! This actually made me emotional... I am a very nostalgic person :)
Wolf, thanks for the stroll down memory lane!
Night and Day Improvement on the video Wolf. Kudos to you! You've become a much better story teller.
Thanks much
love this. I don't like spoilers before playing a game, but I like to hear the lore around it for these sorts of games.
Wolf....Excellent! perfection for the just before times before life had BG3 full release....You get +10 Storytelling With Proficiency , Expertise & Advantage!! DM inspiration!!!
this was the best recap I have ever whatched. Well done mate!
appreciate it
This was amazing thanks!
Thank you
i really love and miss these type of videos from you
thanks!
Great job!
Great job, although I would recommend you to return to BG2 TOB at some point, really almost a game in itself, and the dnd3rd edition highlevel stuff is just epic - but dont feel out of place, as you are literally ascending to godhood! There is this scene where you meet a low lvl adventuring party and.... well its epic, wont spoil it :D
Every time you say baal spawn, I chuckle. This is too good XD
:-D
This was such a good breakdown period I am even more excited for balders gate 3!
You know I played and beat both BG1 and BG2 when I was 14 in Boarding School. I remember staying up past curfew to play. I really appreciate the story recap as it was decades ago!
thank you appreciate
this. about to play my first Balders gate. so excited
I literally searched through your old videos and watched the old ones yesterday… what the hell, I’ll watch this one again for the algorithm love ❤

When I was 14 I got my monthly subscription of PC gamer in the mail, and on the demo CD was BG1. I quickly installed it on my computer and instantly fell in love. Called my mom at work that day and begged her to stop by Circuit City on her way home from work and get me a copy. Being the great mom she was she arrived home with my new copy of BG1 in those old school big boxes games used to come in. That game got me started on RPG's and I haven't looked back since. Cant wait for BG3 and this video bright back some memories. Thank you and keep up the good work, love your channel!
Oh please please please! I was waiting for this! Thank youuu
Heya, so I am pretty much new to D&D outside of Dragon's Dogma. My roomie and I have been pretty hyped for BG3 though and I'm personally looking forward to using it as my jumping point into the world of D&D proper. Your videos have been invaluable in educating myself and are in general just very enjoyable. Thanks for all your hard work!!!
Summary for ToB would be (spoilers ahead) that five powerful bhaalspawn called the five have come together to wage war in Tethyr and slay all other bhaalspawns, the bhaalspawn (MC) goes forth to stop them and is caught up in a city run by a bhaalspawn that is under siege by the five and is asked by a priestess called Melissa to save the city she also tells the MC to send any bhaalspawn they find her way so that she can help them to escape the region. After breaking out of the siege MC + party are confronted by one of the five but he is for some reason unkillable and they are forced to flee. After this the MC goes on a crusade to kill each of the five and as each of the five is killed more and more of the MC's divinity is revealed and seemingly released.
Eventually it is revealed that Melissa is in fact Amelyssan the high priestess of Bhaal who was tasked with brining Bhaal back to life and was thus intrusted with the secrets of his return. She has been instrumental in killing most of the bhaalspawns, including the one's the MC has been sending her way, and the one who brought the five together and guided them. However instead of bringing back Bhaal she seeks to replace him as the new god of murder and with most bhaalspawn dead she has started the ritual to become a god. But the MC who has now become the most powerful bhaalspawn is able to teleport to the place where all the powers of the dead bhaalspawn is gathered and fights one last battle against Amelyssan who has already become a demigod slaying her the MC is left with the choice to either embrace the godly powers and become a god or cast it aside and stay a mortal.
The cannon ending is that the MC chooses to cast it aside and then sometime later after becoming a grand duke of Baldurs Gate but about a 100 years later a bhaalspawn the MC saved during the siege at the start of ToB appears and the two fight as the last two remaining bhaalspawn, then presumedly one of them dies and after this the last living bhaalspawn was transformed into the slayer and wroth havoc on Baldurs Gate until the slayer was eventually killed which finally reuinted all the sparks of divinity left by Bhaal and thus the god of murder returned once more.
Also on a side note the MC being a male fighter canonicly begins a romance with Jaheira , but also has a romantic encounter with Bodhi, also in ToB it is uncovered that his foster father Gorian was a member of the Harpers and that the MC's mother was Alianna a priestess of Bhaal. Gorian sent by the Harpers attacked a temple of Bhaal killing Alianna and choosing to bring the MC along with them while in turn leaving Sarevok, who was also at the temple, behind. Going against the Harpers wish to kill the MC for being a bhaalspawn Gorian left to candlekeep to raise the MC on his own, while Sarevok (if I remember right) is taken in by Amelyssan and is raised + taught on how to bring back Bhaal, though he is taught a faulty method that would only benefit Amelyssan. Also from my understanding the canon ending is also what BG 3 is going with since for instance you can pick Bhaal as a deity.
Thanks a lot!
"...100 years later..." wouldn't that place this section as the timeline of BG3?
@@fortusvictus8297 Maybe haven't played the early access so to not spoil myself and because of stuff I haven't gotten around to play BG3 a lot yet so not sure. But it's very possible since for instance Jaheira appears in BG3 and is shown as being pretty old and a half-elf lives for about 180 years on average which should match the timeline. I'm not sure exactly how canon the BG1-2 canon story is but according to the DnD timeline Abdel Adrian (the canon BG1-2 character) died the year 1482 DR and BG3 is set in 1492 DR so 10 years after Abdel Adrians death and Bhaals return or 120 years after what happened in BG1-2
So excited for this one!

Great thing about BG2 is that you can continue with the same character you completed BG1 with. Some choices you made in BG1 will carry over and have impact in the sequel.
