You're missing the point Max. Not everyone wants _the_ fastest. It's decently fast and it's a convertible for when it's warm.
i will say more than decently, 3.2 , 3.5 on a convertible that looks llike that and moves like that, i think is more than impresive.

@@DouglasCrabb how long is BMW telling you the wait will be? I just ordered one Monday, was told 6 - 8 months, maybe less if I'm lucky.
@@yourdogmabites9477 I was ready to place my order and the dealer and they told me the same. They then came back back and said we have a lucky moment. Someone cancelled a build so I picked up that allocation and confirmed specs the same day. It is already locked in with no changes. I ordered 2 weeks ago and it is scheduled to be made in 2 more weeks. So while this is maybe 6 weeks from order to build - the problem is he has no idea how long it will take to get to me in Canada. Anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months after the build.

Nice review but I totally disagree, a convertible version of a sportcar is better 99% of the time on the road. 0.2s slower on a 0-100 but a lot more pleasure, more sound, more sensations with the roof down. Drifting with no roof is pure peasure too. Unless you are chasing under 8 lap on the nurburgring, the convertible version is very relevant.
I agree, got the 2017 BMW M4 convertible and it's so much fun with the top down. Plus points, you can hear that engine !
Opinion are subjective, so I respect yours but personally I absolutely hate convertible, I'm a bmw technician in italy so I've driven a lot of cars on some really nice roads, but I still don't get cabrio. I just hate the look of them, they're always heavier and you get a LOT of noise when you are cruising, so for me it's a big no
Yes, what's better than getting sunburned and have the wind messing everything up, much much better than a quiet airconditioned environment

@@themuscledriver a V12 aventador coupe is probably much more quiet to sit in than a daihatsu convertible...but yeah some people apparently like getting deaf and not understanding a single word from the person sitting 50cm next to them

@@keithwalton i think the same thing. Darker colors make it look better but then I see a light color and it looks like shit. If the M2 is not offensively ugly I think it will be my next car to replace my SPX40i

You get a very fast car, can open it to enjoy nice weather, and still can use it on a daily regular basis, for an affordable price compated to other similar options. And you enjoy the 6 cilinder much more with an open roof...

I like the G8x, controversially especially the grill, what I don't like is that it is not sufficiently flared from the regular 4 series to distinguish it as an M car. The rear section looks bland compared to the spicy front. I like the convertible, especially as I don't want to track my car, and enjoy all the music the motor makes with the top down. I like the metal top of the prev generation, with the F83 top being heavy it creates some added traction on the rear wheels. Plus on the US roads the convertible has a more forgiving suspension, your back will thank you for it.

A sports car is about the experience, not the fastest lap time. Exactly the reason I ordered the convertible
With a driver this thing is over 2 tonnes. It is a luxury, very fast car on an open road but far off a proper sports car.
I'll need to drive one but can not imagine it turning in like a m4 should, weight kills fun.
@@Max.44 driving with the top down adds more fun than having 100kgs less car weight could compensate. That's the reason why all the Lambos, Ferraris, McLarens and Aston Martins have a spyder/convertible version despite the extra weight. Driving a sporty Cabriolet is the ultimate experience.
For having performance peak experience I'd take a GT3RS and go to the Nordschleife.

Yes convertible m4 is v weird. But if it must be a convertible I prefer the hard convertible roof. Cloth convert is the best for wet and humid countries

Owner of a convertible "last gen" M4 from 2016 here, or should I say the last true M4 :D I was actually looking forward to the new M4, but after the design release it just cut my desire for another M4 completely with that pig nose. I realized that I will be holding on to my M4 for a while until the new M8 become cheaper. To be honest, the hardtop makes so much more sense practically speaking, there is so much noise with a cloth roof.. and god forbid if a pigeon decides to poop on it. The design of my hardtop also looks better in my opinion, and more practical during winters.
Also noticed the new M4 sounds rubbish compared to mine...so why upgrade?

Similar boat here. Drove a '16 4banger 2 series for a bit, liked how it drove quite a bit (was my winter car to compliment my Corvette, which I later sold). Ended up leasing M340i right when it came out, for all-year driving, hoping that around the time my term is done (few more months from now), I'd pick up the new m240/m2 for some weight saving/driving dynamics. After they unveiled the new design and the fact it weighs the same as 3 series... I just lost hope in BMW. Would still love the M5 CS though, if it didn't cost as much as an entry level supercar.

Good review with a faulty summary conclusion: if one wants the currently best high performance 4 seater convertible this is the one. The comparison should not be M4 Coupe vs M4 Convertible but about 4 seater convertibles. A category in which the new M4 scores big time.

Nah, the M4 competition Cabrio is slightly faster than the C63 S Coupe and the C63 S coupe is slightly faster than the old M4 Coupe. So it’s a little bit faster but not that much.

Speak for yourself. The only way I can even think about paying sports cars premium is if the roof goes back. Can't spend 90k and only thing the cars does is go fast in straights and stays tight in the corners. Alot cheaper cars can suit that desire. The fact the sports car can transform warrants the price

Isn't it a better choice to have the M4 convertible rather than the M440i convertible? The extra power will help carry the extra weight and if i had the oportunity to get one of them i would choose the full M car any day if money wasn't a problem. Nice review anyways! :)

I will rent this car for a few days next summer. For daily driving I use my cheap and efficient Toyota Yaris.

Think the best way to look at this car is to see it as a very fast convertable and forget it's got M4 written on it, maybe? No Convertable can be compared to it's hard top counterpart tbh
Yes you can.. you get 90% of what the Coupe does plus open air capability. Not everyone needs that last tenth of extra rigidity especially when modern body structures are already so much stiffer than they were 10 or 20 years ago
I got a F33 440i convertible and I have to strongly disagree with you. The old metal roof looks much better than the fabric one. You can barely tell that my car is not the Coupé most of the time.

The f83 was way prettier both with the roof up and down. Now it's a cheap cloth roof with a pig nose and a normal gearbox instead of the dct come on Bmw
Have down F83 is a way better car then this one and had the DCT which adds so much character.
