- I make a ring from grade 5 titanium, this metal is really tough to machine for the home machinist. The results are beautiful and polishes to a super high gloss! This project was a good way to learn how to use my lathe.

My dad worked at GM, machine repairman. He had a beautiful ring just like this made in the machine shop for me. When I grew up I became machine repair and also went into the machine shop. Beautiful work. Thank you.
My Dad is a retired machinist at GM. Could have been him😁
so excited to spend some time with dad at the lathe and build a ring for my girlfriend wish me luck
Hope it went well! Cherish the time with your Dad and learn everything you can with him! You'll look back on it and be 😊

Tried to make something similar with steel in my Highschool workshop with a lathe, and thought I did a pretty good job until I saw this video lol. Great job mate looks great 👍
I like it and I hope the person that you gave the ring to like it ( loved it ) You have great info on your videos Thanks
Thanks, and yup it was very well received by her :)
@@AndrewWorkshop lucky lady mate
thanks for the idea with the holder for chuck , greetings from Ukraine
thanks for sharing... good stuff! I really appreciate that you're creating this content and supporting us out here!
Nice. I've been casting some brass and copper rings over the past week. I was having some trouble getting the mould to fill and said to myself "if I cant get it to work then I'll just do a simple band on the lathe". Now I know exactly how I'll do it if I need. Though the casting is working out for now. Am also messing about with malachite to go on/in them. Good times.
Nice work, thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Hi Andrew, yesterday I saw for the first time a video of you (that of surf with a motor). I really appreciate your search for detail and finishing. Congratulations and continue so
That’s cool man. Good job
Great Video Andrew! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing. : )
This is something I always wanted to try. I had no idea how to do it. Thanks for letting the secret out! I just bought a metal lathe. Maybe in the winter I will give it a go. We are in Southern Ontario so winter is my inside fun time. Too many fish to catch in the summer!
Nicely done 💯
Very instructive video thank you. I was looking for tutorials about making jewelry with titanium and they are scarce 😅 I see how hard that metal is so I am doubting I will ever try to even get all the needed tools to work with it. But I love its colors so I will definitely look for more tutorials.
Bought a 7x14 mini lathe in November 2022 and need to make a new aluminum ring plus a new pin for my Honda Element transmission shift mechanism. Will plan to use the techniques in this video (e.g., home-made mini collet holder).
I wish I had seen this before my pop passed away. 😪 The mandrel you made is perfect, and I hope you don't mind that I use your design.
Damn clever ring arbor
Thanks for sharing your skills! Thank you for adding the music too, it's really fucking good.
Very nice job on the ring there!
Thank you very much!
@@AndrewWorkshop Any time. It's very professional looking job.

Beautiful result!. Just a word of caution. Titanium chips are highly flammable and burn very hot. Glad to see you had only small amounts and didn't let swarf accumulate. Machining it without coolant can lead to 😳
I knew titanium was a bitch to work with, but holy fuck. Thanks for the video, this totally explains why our titanium wedding bands weren't exactly cheap.
Hi Andres, thanks for sharing your wonderful work!! Greetings from Colombia.
I have a question, have you ever soldered a titanium band with a gold one? what type of solder is used?
Fantastic. What rotation speed you use? I'm interested in try one here. Thanks
You can use titanium tube!
Hello brother. Thank you for sharing this video. May I know what kind of saw blade and tool bit you use when cutting and turning titanium?
Will those cutters u have on the lathe work with tungsten carbide if so what material are they
Love that ring box! Can you share the file or point me to a source?
Hi great video, where I can find the ring box file ?
If I don’t have a metal bandsaw could I just part the bar on the lathe ?
ok but you have to open website and sell us this ring, YOU MUST
amazing!!!
Do you have any machining background. This turned out amazing
Thanks! Nope, all from youtube LOL
Impressive. What type of lathe?
Like !
Hi do u have a link to the model for the ring box?
How do you get it to look curved at the end. Is that just polishing?
Does that use up a lot of electricity
Now anodize it with a torch 😊
Why did you use titanium grade 5 instead of grade 2?
Any how u make one for me?
Can a thick ring be shaved into a thinner ring?
Yes, that's what lathes are used for. Trimming away at materials

Turn a Boss to "rest" the ring against, that way,it will always be flat.
Titanium isn't that hard to machine, get Grade 5, which is harder than Grade 2, but machines nicer, Furthermore, use SHARP Tools, you're better off grinding your own, instead of using cheap chinesium inserts.
i have machined many titanium watchcases with homeground tools made of broken solid carbide endmills, on an even smaller lathe..
I think the material is too hard for such a small lathe and high speed steel is probably better for something that small rather than carbide inserts
I can get one of these on Amazon for $12, and $20 if I want to spring for the CZ diamonds.
If you wear a ring that a doctor can't cut off of you when you need it, you will lose your finger.
Er uses dremils now
sorry, but read about the basic skills how to use a lathe - never unclamp the workpiece before it is finished!
