I really like the lyrics of their music. They’re just beautiful and well thought out. Lyrically, some of my favorite lines are from the song Bedford Falls: “I sailed away from you on a vessel that I made from all the things you gave to me. It’s keeping me afloat, but I still worry. Because I’m treading in this sea or doubt in my self consciousness.”
I seriously think these guys should be bigger than they are. To me, they're one of the 5 best modern Pop Punk bands. Still, I'm psyched for the new album when it drops.
Knuckle puck has truly been killing it for almost 10 years now. I'm glad they're not bigger bc they're sticking to who they are. Their new album even brought back their older sound we all love.
If you don't watch the whole video, at least listen to what Kevin has to say at 22:40. It was really my favorite thing from the entire interview. Beautiful.
cmorto99 I’m certain that those were the two songs that came from the recording sessions that became the Shapeshifter album, but things weren’t working out with the producer, so they jumped back to their producer from Copacetic.
These guy are one of the most humble guys I ever talked to, I've only seen them twice being from Belgium but damn where those 2 times incredible. Such an incredible band
Nico Samuel That’s so great to hear! It’s one of our favorite segments to produce-so pleasers to hear you’re enjoying them! Who should we try to do an oral history with in the future?
I remember hearing a lot of hype about Knuckle Puck prior to when I went to Warped '16 in Portland (I had listened to songs, but they didn't really stand out). I was more into the easycore/electrocore/metalcore Rise Records era from 2011-2015, so I thought I was watching Real Friends at Warped (had never really listened to them much either) but it was actually Knuckle Puck. I loved how much energy Joe had on stage, how punchy and complementing the drums and guitars were. So I went and bought Copacetic and listened to it as we drove from Portland to Cannon Beach, and back home to Canada. They had really locked into a nostalgic, emo sound from the early 2000's that I hadn't heard in awhile. The angelic freeze pedal they use in Ponder and In Your Crosshairs, etc. really vibes. They tapped into a great aesthetic on that album that pulled me back to my teenage angst. It also added to it that we listened to driving through so much Pacific Northwest forest. I get that writing in that style can pull you into a bit of a dark and emotional state, so trying to brighten up the sound makes sense. I think KP should definitely stick to a blend of the poppy and driven sound, but also experiment with the creative elements by pushing boundaries like they do in Untitled, etc. I'm excited to hear more from these dudes because they really created a culture and tapped into a sound that many can relate to. Keep it up dudes. I'm excited to hear more from what 20/20 has to offer.
I found knuckle puck in 2013 with the weight you buried in 2013. No good kind of reminded me of perfect by simple plan like how they talked about not having fathers in their lives. I really liked copethetic the most out of the albums and ep's they did.
I’m seeing them on Saturday @ holy diver in Sacramento. 4th time seeing them first time without neck deep or real friends. “WHERES YOUR RESPECT? AND DIDNT YOUR FATHER TEACH YOU ANYTHING BEFORE HE LEFT”
These guys' songs are so damn catchy. Almost every single one of them gets me pumped, in the same way the first Taking Back Sunday album did. Please do not change the formula! Although, they could put in the effort to give a more interesting interview, rather than "uh, wow dude like, uh yeah dude, like all the kids are like singing along and dude like yeah like whatever." LOL Seem like great guys though and I hope they are very successful and stay together for a long time.
Honestly a little disappointed about that comment about the lyrical content of the new album being all happy and uplifting. The lyrics to Pretense and Ponder are nearly perfect to me, and they were the biggest reason I got into this band. Raw emotion and introspection are what I look for most in music and it sounds they're intentionally veering away from that now, which is a bummer.
TheWardenDuncan Honestly, they were talking about how Joe and Nick have always been in sync with their lyrical content that comes from their personal lives. things and times change🤷🏻♀️
Nothing wrong with having a few happy, more pop-inspired songs on a knuckle puck album, but if every song is like that I will be highly disappointed. Need to keep with the same feel as songs like fences, gone, pretense, no good, double helix, etc.
@@jackcarter1382 For sure, and obviously I don't want them to write things that feel "fake" or that they feel disconnected from. All I'm saying is I probably won't be into the album if it's mostly positive, that's just not something I'd go out of my way to listen to, I guess.
@@thewardenduncan Then give it a bit of time and let it grow on you, look at life's not out to get you, that album is super positive and it changed my life. Don't judge till you hear it ;)
Hard to disagree, but I think it’s possible if their new album is mostly positive and slightly different sound change, I think of Proper Dose by TSSF, although it took a little while to grow on me cause of the softer sound and different lyrics but it was the direction the band wanted to take and honestly think it turned out really good. Guess what I’m trying to say is that Knuckle Puck can pull it off too.
Onto barren land and wasted weeks but we won’t keep searching. We’re fucking helpless. And I feel the staleness in the autumn air it’s not like usual it’s fucking hopeless.
Anyone know who the first producer is? The one they initially recorded Shapeshifter with but didn’t jive with the results? Not looking to hate just curious. I feel like it’s a well known producer possibly. Sometimes shit doesn’t work out even with the top of the heap most expensive guys.
I wonder should they just officially replace him .he clearly would rather pursue his own band so he can be front man. Idk. Just my loose opinion I mean if you’re in a band who is clearly doing very very well. Yet you still choose to do your own thing? Not hating on him for his choice. But Knuckle Puck should maybe move on and replace him

I’m bummed Knuckle Puck didn’t talk about the Calendar Days single. That was one of my favorite songs.
I'm curious what they think about it because I enjoy it too. Almost like it got put on the back burner
