    • @Sadimal
      @Sadimal Před 7 lety +113

      My band usually played four-ten page pieces. If I failed horribly at turning pages, I would just look at my fellow euphonium player's sheet and play off that and he would do the same if he failed the page turns. (My music was in bass clef and his was in treble.) Each section had four-six people and multiple stands to prevent epic failure during page turning especially during festival season.
      There are ways to fake playing correctly when fail at page turning and lose your place.

      @cindyyao168 Před 3 lety +2

      I just want to ask how this happens, as it has never happened to me before. Are you playing flute while leaning back? The majority of your air should be going into the flute because if the little air that doesn't go into the flute blows music off the stand, I don't even know how you manage to make a sound at all (unless it's blowing raspberries)

    • @aceatlasska4343
      @aceatlasska4343 Před 3 lety

      @@cindyyao168 I'm assuming that the air that blew the music off came out of the other end of the flute. I also play the flute and have never blown my music off the stand, but I guess it could happen if you're leaning sideways. Especially if you're in a cramped space, which as a flute in orchestra/band is very annoying 😭.

    Sadly, us pianists can't really bring our instrument with us to show other people that you can actually do something, and it's like basic... and you don't get appreciated for it unless you're REALLY GOOD. And I get jealous all the time if there is a violinist or a person that plays woodwind instruments, and they know how to play piano very well... like that just sucks. Plus, when there is a duet including piano, the other instrument will outshine us and barely anyone pays attention to us. Like I know we are accompanists, but we should still get some mention for like practicing...
    Jjwojwhwoowwowowo sorry I just wanted to get that out there.

      I feel you bro. It's my 3rd year playing the piano (mostly classical pieces) and I can decently play some sonatinas and Bach pieces, but when you play classical pieces to someone, they really have to be breathtaking in order to impress him/her.
      But if you play like any popular song, just some arppegios and a melody, everyone likes you, it's so frustrating. Yeah, I wish I could play any other string instrument except from guitar, because both guitars and pianos are accompanist instruments. Also I'm so damn jealous of violinists that can play the piano very well, thanks for making me feel useless! xD

      LOLID 10101 hahaha I always get Marked down for rushing in my ensemble performance assessment, but the reality is I will not listen. This is why modern performance practise is about ensemble playing being like one unit, feeling the pulse together and being in the same emotion together. The problem with that is suddenly the importance of freedom is lost and that sense is omnipresent in classical music, while I understand the one unit idea is really important in popular music and jazz alike depending on the type of arrangements.

    I have worse experiences with accompanists when singing than playing violin usually. One time in a concert, the pianist wasn't keeping up in one of longest phrases in the piece so I slowed down to get back in time and ran out of breath before the end of the phrase, so I had to just fade to silence for a bar. It was so awkward and obvious and it was right at the start of the piece X(

    Being a good accompanist is a skill unto itself. Many prestigious music schools actually give degrees in musical accompaniment. I used to sing classical music, and I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate a great accompanist. I can concentrate on interpretation of the music, rather than worrying if the person is going to be able to even get through a song with 5 or 6 flats or sharps in it (a lot of art songs are in weird keys that are great to sing in, but not necessarily to play).
