I'm a complete fail at page turning so I've resorted to memorising the whole piece

Good boi
Or taping like 4 pages together so its like 3 foot long but no page turns 🤣

I always end up stopping even if someone else is there to turn my page cuz I simply get distracted... So yeah... I memorize them as well
"the pianist that takes too much time" could actually kill a wind player. When string players run out of bow, wind players run out of air.
oooh, as a pianist it never occurred to me that people were running out of stuff during my delay,

As a pianist, I'm guilty of being a page-fail accompanist. It's a thoroughly terrifying experience.
I once dropped my partner's score during orchestra rehearsals. I was fumbling for it while my stand partner just stared ahead like brent.
luna016 You maybe aren't allowed to do this, or your stand may be too small, but can you not just photo copy the music before the performance?
luna016 muahahaha luckily I have a dedicated Page turner when I play
luna016 Same tho 😂 WHY MUST PAGE TURNING BE SO DIFFICULT
My band usually played four-ten page pieces. If I failed horribly at turning pages, I would just look at my fellow euphonium player's sheet and play off that and he would do the same if he failed the page turns. (My music was in bass clef and his was in treble.) Each section had four-six people and multiple stands to prevent epic failure during page turning especially during festival season.
There are ways to fake playing correctly when fail at page turning and lose your place.
I died at the page turning.

Ling Ling will never have these problems
Ling Ling doesn't need an accompanist. Ling Ling is both the soloist and the accompanist. Ling Ling is the whole orchestra.

1:36 When you have to sneeze in the middle of a concert
One time I was playing a flute solo and I blew my music off the stand...
SAME!!!! Lol
Yep! That's when I started memorizing my music for every concert.
The music stands my school has don't have the bits that go in front of the sheet music and keep it in place (idk what they're called lol) so an invisible but irritating draft is always making the music fly off 😂😭
I just want to ask how this happens, as it has never happened to me before. Are you playing flute while leaning back? The majority of your air should be going into the flute because if the little air that doesn't go into the flute blows music off the stand, I don't even know how you manage to make a sound at all (unless it's blowing raspberries)
@@cindyyao168 I'm assuming that the air that blew the music off came out of the other end of the flute. I also play the flute and have never blown my music off the stand, but I guess it could happen if you're leaning sideways. Especially if you're in a cramped space, which as a flute in orchestra/band is very annoying 😭.
As a singer can 100% relate, especially to the accompanist being too loud. At my college, most of the vocal students called it The Fortissimo Complex. 😂
The Fortissimo Complex?! Oh gosh that's genius! And I can soooo relate! XD Some accompanists play so loud that us singers couldn't even hear ourselves think! And then our teachers get to us for sdraining our throats! XD

My cousin was accompanying her sister and she couldn't turn the pages properly so I had to stand by the piano and turn them.
(I accidentally put them upside down.)
(They kicked me out.)
Perfectly reasonable to have someone else turn the pages -- printed scores don't all put all the page-turns in convenient places. But you do need a turner who turns in the right places. (Not good to put the score upside-down either)
I once was a page turner at a concert and I accidentally flipped 2 pages at once and the pianist had to correct it. Let's just say I was dying from embarrassed

ok accompaniment is hard. I've played on both the violin side and the piano side, and it's so awkward to follow someone, or to play together when neither of you are sure what's going on. I tend to follow the violinist as a piano, but then sometimes the violinist expects me to guide them.
Yes, we did that. Thanks for validating my guesses tho :3

are you a professional violinist?
I’ve had some experience as an accompanying pianist, and I must say that TURNING THAT FUDGING PAGE IS A LOT HARDER THAT IT LOOKS and I think accompanists should give advice (I’ve also been the soloist many times, and always welcomed any suggestions, and mine as an accompanist were also always welcome by the soloist)
Me,as a pianist and a beginner violinist my advice is to if you can,RIP out the pages you need for a concert or whatever or photocopy them so you dont have to turn pages...
@@Siri-gk2wy I'd say Screw that, even if I am terrible at turning pages, when I do succeed the enjoyment of turning it successfully is amazing. I memorize pieces
Is it childish to say that tiny tabs progressing down the right hand pages helped me when I had to turn?
Or turning the pages into a huge strangely fan-folded sheet, that I could set up three or four sheets wide? Easier to grip the edges, and only a few turns needed.

“the pianist that takes up too much time can be a killer”
Wow, I'm a murderer-
Just picked up my violin for the first time after two years of not playing, I was so surprised to learn I still remember all of it! I’ve heard stories of people completely forgetting how to play after a while and it scared me, but now that I know I can still play it I’ve been playing every day for the past week and don’t want to stop anytime soon :)
As a pianist, this video outlines exactly why I am NOT an accompanist. I'm waaay too used to doing things MY way :D
Yeh and me ... the piano mirrors our behaviours and our human selves!!!
Sadly, us pianists can't really bring our instrument with us to show other people that you can actually do something, and it's like basic... and you don't get appreciated for it unless you're REALLY GOOD. And I get jealous all the time if there is a violinist or a person that plays woodwind instruments, and they know how to play piano very well... like that just sucks. Plus, when there is a duet including piano, the other instrument will outshine us and barely anyone pays attention to us. Like I know we are accompanists, but we should still get some mention for like practicing...
Jjwojwhwoowwowowo sorry I just wanted to get that out there.
I wish I played more instruments that are classical
:(
Min Eum Or just play pop music. Problem solved.
TheUKNutter lol doesnt pop music include instruments sort of?
They sure do! And many of them. It tends to be a mix of everything
Min Eum bruh my pianist bro that's why there's midi
I feel you bro. It's my 3rd year playing the piano (mostly classical pieces) and I can decently play some sonatinas and Bach pieces, but when you play classical pieces to someone, they really have to be breathtaking in order to impress him/her.
But if you play like any popular song, just some arppegios and a melody, everyone likes you, it's so frustrating. Yeah, I wish I could play any other string instrument except from guitar, because both guitars and pianos are accompanist instruments. Also I'm so damn jealous of violinists that can play the piano very well, thanks for making me feel useless! xD
I just discovered you guys and I have to say, your timing with the jokes is exactly my cup of tea. You earned another subscriber! Keep up the great work!!

LOLID 10101 haha same
LOLID 10101 hahaha I always get Marked down for rushing in my ensemble performance assessment, but the reality is I will not listen. This is why modern performance practise is about ensemble playing being like one unit, feeling the pulse together and being in the same emotion together. The problem with that is suddenly the importance of freedom is lost and that sense is omnipresent in classical music, while I understand the one unit idea is really important in popular music and jazz alike depending on the type of arrangements.

too fast to give up that is
You need a accompanist who doesn't make it harder for you to play, and that's tough to find.
I have worse experiences with accompanists when singing than playing violin usually. One time in a concert, the pianist wasn't keeping up in one of longest phrases in the piece so I slowed down to get back in time and ran out of breath before the end of the phrase, so I had to just fade to silence for a bar. It was so awkward and obvious and it was right at the start of the piece X(

Being a good accompanist is a skill unto itself. Many prestigious music schools actually give degrees in musical accompaniment. I used to sing classical music, and I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate a great accompanist. I can concentrate on interpretation of the music, rather than worrying if the person is going to be able to even get through a song with 5 or 6 flats or sharps in it (a lot of art songs are in weird keys that are great to sing in, but not necessarily to play).
Oh my goodness, you guys inspire me, LOL, HILARIOUS!
