Yes, number two talking over microphone was indeed better. Thanks for the pointer!
Great Videos Tom. I'm learning a lot about my FT-991.
I have learned a lot of in-depth features of MY FT-991A from watching your channel. Oh, and I love your dry (and thoughtful) sense of humor :) - Wes, W5ZZO
Hi, Beacon Interval menu 015 will give you repeat function for cw. 1-240 seconds.
Also the record feature only works when keyer is active and not on bug or straight key.
Love my Yaesu 991A
Thanks for the helpful video!
You are terrific. Thanks very much. W1OOB.
Thanks, very helpful. I wasn't sure what those buttons did until now.
As a 991A owner with limited experience, I am really enjoying this series of videos.
Kirk, thanks for your kind words. I put a lot of effort into these and it's great to get this kind of feedback. 73 de Tom, ND3N
And your effort is greatly appreciated. Not only did you thoroughly explain each function, you also clearly demonstrated how each task is accomplished.Tnx & 73…W7KB
Thanks for the great videos, Tom! I can't wait to get me an FT-991A. Everyone I've looked at so far is out of stock. 🥴
Thank you for sharing messages. I would like to know can you program the messages with RT systems for CW messages.
Yes you can - on the opening screen of the RT-Systems S/W for the FT-991A, click on "Settings" for the Pull-Down menu, and select "Radio Menu Settings..." Make sure you're on the General tab of the pop-up window and you'll see a place where you can enter your CW text in the 5 available channels. Once in and uploaded, playback is the same as in the video. Make sure you use the K} at the end of your text (in each channel) to change back to Receive mode. 73 de Tom, ND3N
One glitch. I could not get the mike to record. If you have any computer input such as WSJTX or HRD, the MIC is selected to the rear for USB. If you want to record a message you have to go to AM. It will play back just fine on SSB. You can go in and monkey with the settings and select the front mic, but hitting AM mode is easier. If you are recording blank messages, this might be your problem.
Once you record a message on these channels are you able to fetch them into a function key on N1MM?
I'm not a N1MM expert, but I don't think these messages could be attached to a function key. N1MM will store macros that can be used to key your rig with an external keyer, such as the WinKeyer USB. Here's another video that discusses your CW keying options: czcams.com/video/aMaPqww5BHA/video.html
Tom, I am still learning all the unctions on the 991a. And havean issue I cannot seem to figure out. I have had it all working and then must have done something wrong. I have selected water fall but am not seeing it. The screen display shows where it should be, but even though I have signals. am not getting water fall markers showing stations. Also when I tune the frequency the R/T moves avross the screen when it used to stay cenetered. Any he;p appreciated. 73 N6ZKI
Hold down the sweep button till you hear a beep then the water fall will be live. if you press sweep once it will freeze the spectrum so it’s easier to tune to the frequency
I hope to get my tech license next week. Do you think the 891A is too complicated for a new operator?
IMO - the FT-891 is a great rig for entry level, and you'll get a lot of use out of it... If cost is an issue, here's a video I made (HF Rigs under $1000) that will give you an idea of what else is available in that price range. czcams.com/video/0SGHcTbQ784/video.html
One concern I would have is that you might outgrow it pretty fast, but that's something only you can judge. If, however, that is the case, you might want to consider the FT-991A.
When do you expect to make General - the limited HF privileges of a Tech may be disappointing to you. HF really kicks in at General.
Good luck with your test and hope to hear you on the air soon. 73 de Tom, ND3N
@@ND3N The 991 A was the one I was thinking about. I just put the wrong model in my previous text. For a newbie it just seems like a lot of buttons and knobs etc. and looks a little intimidating . The 991 seems to have all the bells and whistles and all the frequencies so I thought that would be the one to get if I get a Yaesu. I can afford it. And I have a good friend neighbor, Bob Locher, who wrote The complete DX"er book. He is the one who is getting me interested so he will help me I am sure as he is a Extra license and has been doing Ham for 60 years . I have a GMR license now for about 6 months and enjoy that. Once I get the tech license I will start studying for the General. Been watching your training videos on how to cheat legally. Going to go over all those the day before the test. Thanks for your help. Roger
It sounds like you have a good plan. The 991A is a great little rig. Good tech and for what you get a deal at the price. I've had mine for several months and I've really enjoyed it. I still haven't learned everything about it, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to use. 73 de Tom, ND3N
In case you haven't seen it yet, here is my review of the FT-991A - enjoy... czcams.com/video/UmF0mnURdms/video.html
