When she was on, she was everything. She was powerful, fast, energetic, charming and human spark plug. She had everything. She was irresistible when she skated like this
I know. She was such a treat to watch when she was on. With talent like hers she should have had multiple world medals and national championships. Not only did she have the talent, but she also had the spark. No one lit up a crowd like Nicole. While clearly having a better career than Nicole, Sasha Cohen also underachieved in my mind. Imagine someone like Kristi, MIchelle or Katarina with the talent these girls had/have.
Her spirals were THE best. I think it's sad that she seems somewhat forgotten as a skating icon, she really pioneered the long and elegant spiral sequences... and in my opinion had better line than Sasha.
@Mai Tandy she was athletic and elegant at the same time. It’s very possible to be both. Just because she wasn’t stick thin doesn’t mean was “bulky” as you say. Much more interesting to watch and more mature than many of the other greats.
Absolutely not. Her 1st place was exactly right. The sheer speed in her skating, height in the jumps, variety and speed of her spins, connecting elements/steps, best spiral sequence of the event, and incredible artistry clearly put her in 1st place. Just listen to the announcers... Her flutz was the only error in technique, and only the Chinese judge seemed to miss that on the technical marks.
This program rocked! I always liked her. Those spirals are second to none. So pretty. Her layback spins were beautiful too. Hope she emerges from her current 'issues' a smarter person.
SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT MY FRIEND AND HER TALENT OR SHUT THE HELL UP!! THAT IS TALENT WITH SOME CONSISTENCY ISSUES IN THE DAY,BUT YOU DON'T KNOW HER OR THE LIFE SHE LED SO PISS OFF!!! SHE ROCKS AND ALWAYS WILL!!! RAW NATURAL TALENT....YOU JEALOUS????
G Negrelli I love and miss Nicole.❤ Good for you to stick up for your friend. She's amazing and has such a sweetness about her. It's such a joy and pleasure to see her skate. :-)
You summed it up perfectly. After so many coaching changes, it seemed 1995 is when Nicole finally got it together. Just when you thought she arrived...she was gone. Terrible waste of talent.
flutz. not lutz. so it s like she made triple flip double toe lop. super double axel. only a triple toe lop whereas many girl did a triple lop or triple flip. artisticly very nice spiral sequence but not a emotionnal and mature programm. so for me 5.5 and 5.8 and i would have put her 2nd or 3rd on the short programm.
i hate how she holds her hands and fingers when she is trying to be artistic/graceful. It's overdone. Gorgeous girl though. Beautiful extension in her spiral.
Nicole Bobek choked? NOT so. Tonya Harding was the real choker. But she choked more than did Sasha. In fact Tonya Harding was the most unattractive skater in the US,

Wonderful Nicole- she had a unique gift to implant a soul, a heart into her programs. It's a unique gift indeed.
True. She had incredible charisma.

Just gorgeous! Great execution of a clever program, by a beautiful girl. Wow!
@haloplayer87 I agree. Nicole Bobek is the Sasha Cohen of the 90's because she was the choker of that era the same way Sasha chokes in the 2000's
She's so exciting when she's on, she really lights up the arena. Even Michelle Kwan looked impressed there at the end ;).

She is so good. She's unbeatable when she pulls it altogether like how she did on this program. The long program is a different story though :-(

Woah! I never noticed how much height she got on that double axel! Girl could have done a triple!

Nicole is one the all time great skaters. Love and miss her. She was absolute joy to watch
I agree. Her spirals remind me of Sasha's.She did have a lot of raw talent. I'm glad she had a good year in '95!
She was pure talent.
You summed it up perfectly. After so many coaching changes, it seemed 1995 is when Nicole finally got it together. Just when you thought she arrived...she was gone. Terrible waste of talent.
i would have put her 3rd in the short behind kwan and markova but my gosh 5th place from the russian judge????LOOOOOOL
NIcole should've been a GREAT skater. She was so amazing then.

China had her first.
Russia had her fifth.
China actually had Lu Chen 3rd!
The Sasha Cohen of the 90s.
No worries ;)
flutz. only a triple toe loop whereas other girls like kwan bonaly and markova did a triple loop or flip.
Same as Sasha Cohen-chokers under pressure.
@BigB0882 I mean Russia!
i hate how she holds her hands and fingers when she is trying to be artistic/graceful. It's overdone. Gorgeous girl though. Beautiful extension in her spiral.
she should have been 3rd in the sp and 4th in the lp and 4th overall ;)
Bobek wasted a lot of her talent. In my opinion she is probably the talented skater the USA has ever produced that never met her level of potential.
totally disagree sorry ;)
