- LAPD Officer Deon Joseph takes Lisa Biagiottti on his nightly patrol of skid row, which he has walked for the last 18 years. Violent crime has escalated citywide, but on Joseph's beat, he says robberies are up 71%, aggravated assaults by 73% and rapes by 91%. Joseph canvasses Spring to San Pedro, from 3rd to 7th streets. Along the way, he discusses addiction, mental illness and the disastrous effects of a synthetic drug called Spice. He instructs a woman on how to stay safe on the streets, and he remembers the people who have died on his watch.

In this video series, Lisa Biagiotti sets out to put faces to the statistics. But 'the homeless' are united only in that they have no place to live. She meets people on the streets, learns about their experiences and explores the issues they face. Captain Obvious I met him today because he came to our school and had a talk with us. He spoke of all of the people who spoke down on him and talked about how one bad move could get us on skid row. It was very motivational and he is an amazing man. Much love for him.

My policy. If you're being arrested, your punishment is not to be treated poorly by police officers. The punishment is your loss of liberty, and then whatever punishment is given by a judge. I try to treat my custodies with respect, and in general they treat me with respect. The whole process is then done quickly and fairly. It makes everyone's life easier.
As a police officer this is how I act and it's how we all need to act in my opinion. It probably has to do with me growing up poor and having addicts in my family I got to grow up and see that's what not to do, im not afraid of it. This officer in the video i can tell he's not afraid of it and people pick up on that.
it's super stressful but best job in the world. I love helping people especially in the city I grew up in.

He's a good man. You can actually tell he cares about saving lives & doing what he can to help. I wish there were more police who thought like that. I guess it's how your raised & taught to treat ppl with respect & you'll get respect.

This officer is very street-wise; I can tell from his vernacular. I respect that. lol
But your not street wise- I've interacted with cops like him- camera off different story- he'd turn streets back on u if crossed- corrupt with badge- YT commenters r so gullible- y u think they acting so nice to him- 18 years & he relishes that shit hole- it ain't adding up
