Reinvention and continuity - OOMPH! have been synonymous with self-renewal, pioneer spirit and carefree creativity for almost three decades. The Germans have been raised on EBM, rock and new wave, accidentally started a new subgenre in the 90s (the so-called Neue Deutsche Härte that influenced Rammstein and many more) and were crossover when crossover wasn`t even born. Many years later legions of fans with varied musical backgrounds are hooked and the band is no stranger to the highest chart positions - CRAP, DERO and FLUX were awarded their first platinum record for Wahrheit oder Pflicht in 2004. The trio is now ready to release its thirteenth longplayer Ritual that is poised to catch the listener offguard, „Our most aggressive, heaviest and darkest album in a while“, singer DERO states truthfully. The fuming and pounding triumvirate ‘Tausend Mann und ein Befehl‘, ‘Achtung! Achtung!‘ and ‘Kein Liebeslied‘ delivers the goods in stomping old school fashion, but after a breathless start it`s time for the über-catchy ‘Europa‘ (feat. Chris Harms / Lord Of The Lost) and the dancefloor monster ‘Im Namen des Vaters‘. Batshit insane electro tune ‘TRRR - FCKN - HTLR‘ curiously marks the only tongue-in-cheek entry on the otherwise rather stern Ritual that tackles politics, war and abuse. Eloquent, controversial, erratic and inescapable - OOMPH! came up with a stunning and mature masterpiece that makes peace with the band`s past and sets new impulses.

Well, this is a sequel of sorts to "100 men" an American anti-war song translated into German by people opposed to the Nazis and the second world war during the Nazizeit, and called "100 Mann und ein Befehl"
Just in case 1 or 2 persons are interested: Without OOMPH! (since 1989) there never would have been Rammstein (since 1994). OOMPH! are the founders and "Godfathers" of the genre "NEUE DEUTSCHE HÄRTE". Rammstein themselves said in several interviews that they were heavily influenced by OOMPH!

I really like how German metal bands aren't afraid of examining the darkest days of their history. We need songs like this so we never forget, and hopefully won't repeat those mistakes.
I think they mean that no country in the world should ever start a war again.
We Germans are not proud of our history. We want to make the others aware of our mistakes with such songs, so that something like it happened before will NEVER happen again.

This album went to number 1# on the German charts 🇩🇪 and in America 🇺🇸 barely any Rock/Metal act are even noticed. Clearly Rock and Metal are still alive ( not that music can die in the first place) just not as much in 🇺🇸 I guess.

@Max Mustermann Es ist natürlich etwas ungewohnt, aber aus meiner Sicht nicht enttäuschend. Ich glaube auch nicht, dass das komplette Album so klingen wird. Aber auch wenn ich diese Ironie und Abstraktion, die du ansprichst, sehr liebe, will ich diese Entwicklung nicht kritisieren. Jeder darf aus seinem Stil ausbrechen, denn sonst wäre das Ganze keine Kunst mehr. Und wenn man der Meinung ist, dass es eine klare Ansage braucht, dann sollte jeder Musiker, jede Band und jede andere Art von Künstlern diese Ansage bringen dürfen.
Ja, richtig, über 70 Jahre Frieden haben viele von uns sehr undankbar werden lassen.
Die meisten Kriege werden ohnehin nur noch deshalb geführt, weil jemand daran verdient, s. Brasilien. Die Bevölkerung ist der Verlierer.

Und man sollte nicht jedes Lied so gleich runter machen, weil ein anderes besser ist. Jede Band oder Musiker hat seine eigene Art, eine Botschaft in die Welt zu setzen, das ist auch sein Recht. Leider verstehen das manche Menschen nicht und müssen sofort aufeinander losgehen. Und damit sind wir wieder beim Thema ,,Krieg".

Endlich mal wieder etwas rockiger und härter, wie in den "guten alten Zeiten" auf Unrein, Defekt und Wunschkind. Gefällt mir deutlich besser als "kein Liebeslied".

@QuickStrike0065 Hey man, that could be said about almost any band that likes to experiment with their style and does not stay eternally in the same genre repeating themselves.
But I believe that within that changing-paradigm, one can establish different moments of Oomph:
->EBM / early purely electro-industrial (Oomph homonym album).
->Transition and search for a heavier style, with large metal components on the albums left between ‘Sperm’ and ‘Unrein’. (Except for Wunschkind, which sounds much similar to its EBM beginnings, and it’s more lyrics-focused).
->The first experimental period with the 'Plastik' and 'Ego' albums, where we see more melodic and ambiental touches, recovering at little times the heavy-industrial style.
->The improvement of his own style, already within a more industrial-heavier & metal sound with everything learned before in 'Warheit oder Pflicht', combining in perfect balance the metal riffs with electronic components (for now… the best ‘oomph-album’ in my opinion).
->More refinement of the style established in ‘WoP’, transitioning towards highly-postproduced albums and some EBM touch on 'GlaubeLiebeTod' and ‘Monster'.
->In 'Des Wahnsinns fette Beute' we see the start of a second experimental period, with a big leap in styles, towards something very varied and experimental, where you feel a high heritage of its EBM origin in many songs.
->Then comes 'XXV' where Oomph makes another huge leap in style, acquiring that gothic-melodic touch with the symphonic finish of the songs, and a completely melodic-focused Dero Goi.
->Now in the present album, 'Ritual' with the two songs that have been released + the previews seen in their stories, you feel a return to the most heavy-metal era of the band between ‘Sperm-Defekt-Unrein’, with a big presence of distorted guitars, and more presence of those vocals shouted and less melodic; but, plus everything learned in its later stages: For example, in this song there is a subtle symphonic-background touch on the chorus, reminiscent of XXV, even in the manner of singing by Dero; while the rhythmic style of the chorus reminds me a lot of ‘INRI Vs. Jahwe’ chorus (Wunschkind).
That is what many refer with "the old Oomph!", (and I refer with 'new-old Oomph!') after the experimentation stage between 'Des Wahnsinns fette Beute' and ‘XXV’; what has been seen of the new album ‘Ritual’ recalls the Oomph stage before 2008, with some new elements. As always, Oomph! doesn't disappoint no matter what gender they carry on their shoulders

Nie wieder Krieg ... ein wunderbarer Gedanke... doch wahrscheinlich auf ewig ein Traum... ewiger Frieden dafür ist der Mensch zu neidisch und auch einige zu reich ... dennoch guter Klang und schöner Text.
Immer an diesen Traum glauben und soweit wie möglich daran arbeiten. Auch kleine Dinge können große Wirkung haben. Nur nie aufgeben 🙂
