  • Today's episode I am introducing a young horse to the use of spurs. I will cover the "hows and whys" when introducing the spur for the first time to a horse. The contents of this video and guidelines are just general rules of thumb and "A Way" to get the job done.

I ride just about every horse with spurs, but I have a quiet, still leg. Great explanation of asking with calf first, then spur nudge if you have too. It's there if you need it.
IMO spurs keep a horse light to the aids.
Some horses will wear your behind out without spurs in a hurry. Luckily, one of mine is a naturally light horse that would probably pile me if I used a spur. Thank god I don't have to lol.
