    Dave is such a great motivation. I have his book, and am getting ready to read it. I changed my health and life through intermittent fasting and the KETO diet. I lost 35 pounds in 4 months and have kept it off for 7 months now without counting calories or worrying about gaining it back. I am 68 and am hoping to heal my lumbar stenosis. I walk/run every morning and get that sunlight in my eyes! My thinning hair is getting thicker. I am aging backwards.

    Years ago, my wife used to go abroad with her job, for a couple of weeks, for a couple of times a year, and because I did most of the cooking. So when she was away I couldn’t be bothered cooking, and I would go four or five days without eating.....and the more I went without eating the better I felt..obviously you can’t do that for weeks on end, but you aren’t going to starve to death in a week without food..

    I have been intermittent fasting for about one and a half years. I feel great, and my blood pressure has gone down. So has my weight: Six kilos, which means that I look slim now. One thing I think has made this so easy is that I retired a little more than one year ago. My kids are grownup, and I am living by myself. So I can do as I please, bye what I want, and go for a really long walk without having to account for my day. Or skip this, and just do my daily routine exercises, or whatever I feel like. At the same time, nobody would interfere if I made a feast. I used to eat pasta quite often. I don't any more, but I have no prohibitions whatsoever. So, once in a while, I will still have a meal including pasta. Only, it actually doesn't appeal so much to me now. It simply isn't good for me. This is what intermittent fasting has really done to me: I am responsible for my own health, for my life, and no-one else is. Least of all my doctor! - Just some thoughts from a danish woman of 66.

      Yes, intermittent fasting has helped me greatly. I actually do a lectin free (Dr Gundry’s) diet with Dr Berg’s Healthy KETO plan. I eat at 1-2 pm and at 6 pm. I’m never hungry. I also gave up all alcohol because it prevents ketosis. I have more energy than I’ve had in 20 years and I’m 70.

    I think the best thing to do is to listen to your body's natural rhythm about when it's hungry. I eat breakfast, lunch, then I eat supper at around 3 pm (that's when I'd get hungry, so I stopped fighting it. Now I eat then and I don't get hungry all evening). So my 17 hour fast goes until breakfast. I imagine that other people have natural hunger points at different times, but if you go with whatever that may be, you'll find that the fast is ridiculously easy.

    I hate eating in the morning because I feel full upon waking up whether I had dinner or not the night before. It's the reason why fasting comes to me naturally. I've been like this for over 40 years. Of course, it freaks me out growing up in the 1980s because the media kept telling us that breakfast is the most important of the day. I tried eating breakfast in the morning but I kept falling back to not eating.

      The hair loss most people experience on keto is due to rapid weight loss. It's called telogen effluvium and is temporary. Any rapid weight loss including that from stomach bypass surgery or a very low calorie diet will do the same thing. Even if you had stayed on strict keto or carnivore your hair would have grown back because those diets are not calorie or nutrient deficient.

    Huevos Rancheros (eggs & beans protein) with red salsa (lycopene) & avocados (healthy fat) are among the BEST breakfasts to quench hunger pangs for a long time!
    Grew up fasting & it was totally normal for everyone to do it. We ate no fast or junk foods, nor any of the typical 'American breakfast' foods, like cereals, muffins, pancakes, or waffles.
    Donuts were known as DoNots! Cookies or brownies simply did not exist in our home. French-style fluffy sponge cakes with berries & fresh cream were our sweet choice, but a rare treat. Fish & Pork were never part of the diet, neither were seafood/shellfish. Lentils, legumes, rice, & yogurt were common, as were pistachios, mulberries, walnuts, & pomegranates.
    But really the main point is be disciplined & have emotional self-mastery (fasting & meditation help with this)! Don't eat except for hunger & even then only 80% full max. Know that food is like medicine, not some type of social lubricant! Drink tea & snack on fruits & nuts at social events, instead.
    I continue a similar life-style despite a global life & haven't changed sizes in over 20 years since teen years!

      @_____J______ Před 3 lety +5

      Beans are loaded with lectins, and cooking even in pressure cook won't get rid of it completely
      White part of eggs would be better thrown off immediately
      White Eggs actually cause biotin depletion in the body (which is why many people who eat eggs only eat the yolks). Biotin loss can eventually lead to seizures, hair loss, lack of muscle coordination and tone, and severe joint pain. When you come in contact with egg proteins, immune system cells (antibodies) recognize them and signal the immune system to release histamine and other chemicals that cause allergic signs and symptoms
      Red salsa: When a person comes into contact with an allergen, such as a tomato, histamines are released into exposed areas such as the skin, nose, and respiratory and digestive tracts
      Chili is containing capsaicin, this chemical compound when enters stomach or esophagus, informally known as the food pipe or gullet, because of capsaicin (which is in chili, and causes burning sensation) itself can cause inflammation
      Tomatoes are toxic file in general. Nightshades as toxins better to avoid
      ...
      People thinks they eat like Saints, even tho they knows lil 'bout WHAT they eat. Their food ain't innocent and more likely backwards -- very sinister.
      Anyways do with your body what you wish. My message is only informative.
      Even if you don't think you have any sensations or symptoms, in practice, don't think it's not harming you and you are all fine. Looks (and sensations) can be deceiving

    • @judylloyd7901
      @judylloyd7901 Před 3 lety +5

      @@_____J______ There is more up to date information about lectins out there now. They are not the villains they were previously believed to be.
      In fact, lectins are present in all plant foods, but raw legumes (beans, peas, lentils, soybeans, peanuts), and whole grains, such as wheat, contain the highest amounts of lectins.
      Lectins are water-soluble and typically found on the outer surfaces of a food so soaking and cooking in water removes them. However, they must be cooked at a reasonably high temperature, not in a slow cooker.
      Sprouting grains and beans will also deactivate lectins.
      Capsaicin may, in large amounts, cause problems, but when consumed in reasonable amounts is actually good for the liver, and can kill harmful bacteria if consumed at the same time as foods likely to contain bacteria.
      Tomatoes also, are incredibly good for you, as long as you don't overeat them. They contain Vitamins A and C, and an antioxidant called lycopene. These nutrients may reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of several chronic diseases.
      These are just some of the benefits of consuming these foods, and some practices that will help you receive the most benefit from them.
      😄😄👍👍

Sometimes I go heavy on the veggies. I can not eat beans, can’t digest them. I got the hunter gatherers genes. Also, I took MCT for 2 years and it raised my cholesterol to 267. It was 160 before using it. DNA says I must stay away from saturated fats. Got my cholesterol down to 227. I use olive oil which I love. Bought an air fryer and I love it. We are all different. Keto/carnivore works for me. Went from 263lbs to 169. However, I must exercise 4-5 days per week, because I am a fat making machine.

    Actually it wasn't just the Industrial revolution; in agrarian societies pre-I Rev. farmers would get up at 4 a.m. to milk cows etc. then have a communal meal and head out to till the fields and like I believe the 7th Day Adventists their dinner was our lunch. Margaret Visser or or Visner, didn't look it up my apologies is an anthropologist who wrote a fascinating book titled The Importance of Dinner which explores cultural habits all over the world and also diachronically in Western societies. The word Dinner over time kept getting moved on later and later certainly for the privileged classes who would eat at 10 p.m. after soirees etc. So cereal companies certainly; Industrial Revolution absolutely but there was a piece I believe you missed. Great interview will read both your books!!
