    STORYLINE:
Thousands of devotees flocked to a church near the Mexican capital for a glimpse of what is believed to be a fragment of bone belonging to St. Jude.
The relic of one of Jesus’ 12 Apostles and the patron saint of impossible causes is in Mexico after touring the United States in its first-ever trip out of Rome.
The wooden carving that holds the bone fragment is displayed in a glass case.
In the small church of San Cristóbal Texcalucan, 30 kilometers west of downtown Mexico City, each person in line was given only about two seconds in front of the relic.
About an hour after being brought into the church, it was quickly removed and loaded into a vehicle to be taken to another parish in a neighboring village.
The sacred item is a must-see for many Catholics in Mexico, where St. Jude is highly popular.
The relic toured the United States between September to July before arriving in Mexico, where several thousand people are expected to venerate it until the end of August.
St. Jude Thaddaeus is not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus.
