It surprised me you called the connector used on the Lewitt power supply «shitty, non-standard». It's actually is a IEC 60320 C7/C8 connector, used on non-grounded devices. I have dozens of them at home, they came as standard in the EU (tape video players, hi-fis, and whatnot...) at least since the 80s. The connector you called «standard» is a IEC 60320 C13/C14 connector, used on computer power supplies, later on becoming widespread on any high-power internal power supply, typically associated to an external fuse. On lower-power power supplies, like those used on laptop chargers, you typically find instead the IEC 60320 C5/C6 connector, called «clover leaf» in the English-speaking world. But you might also find the IEC 60320 C7/C8 since anyway not all these chargers are grounded. Regardless, you can find adapters converting between all these types, so you can stock up just one cable type. They all have one thing in common, though: they're described in the same IEC 60320 standard for appliance connectors. Lewitt engineered it the right way if their power supply is low powered, not grounded. (Edit: bodged grammar and spelling).
I look forward to your full review of this. I've got a pair of Wes 1176's and they were great to deal with when I bought those directly from them some years back, super helpful with my questions. In regards to all the emphasis being placed on the plug in control, I don't think they are doing that at the expense of any other detail or sound quality, it's just a useful thing they worked out and with some of their products that other companies make too, like 1176s or 500 series racks etc, it is a point of difference with other products that otherwise might be pretty similar.
5:45 To be fair, that is a standard connector. Its called a C7/C8 connector (depending on male or female). The one you call "standard" is called a C13/C14. They are less common, but they are standard nonetheless. 7:45 I would say Ethernet is easy to set up even in a home studio. You can get a cheap switch and even just "daisy chain" them if you need more. Ethernet is incredibly robust and cheap. I wish more home studio stuff was ethernet. Especially my main synth which has 32-channel out is a pain because of the bandwidth it can only be a short usb cable, but that means it doesnt really fit well under my desk and I have to spend a lot of money on expensive usb extenders for something that could've easily just been a 2 euro ethernet cable
I don't know how these recalls work but I would imagine you don't need to tamper with the original potentiometer connections, just add a motor that tweaks the knob to correct position, right? I guess calibration issues need some extra care though, but should be technically doable.
Both are standard connectors. The one with three prongs is grounded the other one is not. Not so common in audio gear but probably a decision made by lewitt to avoid ground loops with that preamp.
I rarely get the chance to see a top quality hardware compressor in action, but I was drooling at this.. I cannot wait for a complete working review of it. Please also when you review it, I would love to see how it compares with the nearest UAD equivalent, if there is such a thing.
Been very intereted in the Wes NGBus and the SSLBus+ for a while. Demo'ed both units. Unpopular opinion from what I've seen online, but I prefer the Bus+. Theyre both incredible units, its not that one is better or worse, just pros and cons. The NGBus sounds way better on paper, but for me, the Bus+ had the tonality I was looking for.
First off always loved your videos, they are very informative,I think you should just review hardware ONLY,just a thought, other than that, carry on mate....Peace and Love
The cable on the lewitt is generic too, just a different generic cable. I see it most often on laptops and synths with external PSUs. You can buy one pack of those and never worry about it again.
Best part was the unboxing. That was priceless 😅 Loved it. Such a waste and annoying but funny as hell to see someone deal with. Plus ur comedy was great
I’m a bit skeptical for your review if I’m honest, it seemed judging of this quick look that you weren’t that sold on this thing and that WES’ whole thing is the digital controls… It is, but that’s a bad thing? It’s a posh SSL. It sounds great, it can be tame or fuck it up. I know personally a couple of industry professionals who love this thing, both mixing and mastering. If something needs an SSL bus comp, this is it. I’ve owned one for about a year and I love it. It works amazing in mid side, the THD is nice and can be used in mastering (the iron not so much). And the recall is just flawless, automation on everything, it looks the part and is extremely well built (despite your knob falling off (lol)). The guys at WES are great too, I needed to contact support when I upgraded to apple silicon and they replied to my email in 3 minutes flat There isn’t a single issue with this unit and it’s worth it’s price, if your after an ssl

What just happened here ? 15 minutes to open a box and watch the knobs light up. ZERO usable content. Your clips are usually pretty decent. This one was a total let-down. Bill P.
Every once in a while I check in to make sure these headlines are still clickbait that treat me like I’m an idiot. Yes I clicked on it. No, I suppose I don’t deserve just a straightforward title to what a video is about. I am part of the cattle meant for clicking.

Wytse's thumbnail faces keep getting funnier.
Ballistics on the meters differ quite a bit between the software and hardware.
Seems to me the compressor was distorting badly most of the time. gain staging definitely needs some attention.

You do not need motors, you can use solid state devices.
@@Axelvad how would one go about implementing that? And would still need to "look" at it...
