In Zambia, collard greens are called repu and is typically eaten with nshima. In Kenya, collard greens are called sukuma and is typically eaten with ugali. They are a popular vegetable in East and Southern Africa.
Swallows are a category of dough-like African food made of cooked starchy vegetables and/or grains. Fufu of Western Africa, ugali and nsima of Eastern Africa, and sadza of Southern Africa are examples of swallows.
Nshima is a staple food in Zambia, made from boiled water and white or yellow cornmeal that's pounded into a fine meal. ❤🇿🇲❤
Got it right but the Zambian one is usually out of maize which is pounded into a powder
@@WhelmanKunda
maize is another name for corn, and maize flour is also known as cornmeal
Ugali is our favourite meal here in Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪. A day can't end without eating ugali.

Banku is made from corn dough and cassava dough which are all fermented
never trieds with cassava but i will give it a goal
I come here because someone visit my store looking for this maize/ corn / sima , I showed them banku mix but still not sure , she is white lady and am not familiar South African food . Isima is corn mix with what? Or is just corn 🌽? Thanks for making the videos. I can see you’re enjoying the food.
In Zambia it’s only maize which is turned into a powder but for some areas they use cassava too but the maize type is the most common here!
It looks like a broth all watery soup
oh give it a try thanks for your comment
Hello! Are you chewing that corn /maize (ugali) meal or swallowing? In West Africa, they swallow their fufu whole while in East Africa, they chew their ugali before swallowing. So, what are you doing there, chewing or swallowing whole?
Chewing for Zambians
We Swallow
@@awofodutemitayo3340 we chew then swallow
We chew, just swallowing is quite foreign to us as well lol
So is similar to banku mix ?
Never tried banku but a lot say it’s similar
Banku is a mix. This is pure maize meal and water. Once you like it it can be addictive food. You need it everyday. Some of our elders can't go to bed without eating it. You can serve people rice, chips and other nice food and st the end they ask, so where is sadza after all that effort. We call it sadza in Zimbabwe and it's staple food. Everyone knows sadza if you socialise with a Zimbabwean. ❤
